Dillon makes the best machines in the industry. But, there is a learning curve. The fact is, you just need to slow down, take a breath, and be meticulous with everything you do. Study your machine and become a pro. Lastly, don't give up. That's for the weak at heart. Highboy
There is an easier way to do this. If you have a vise, put the spring in the vice, then take a heat gun and heat up the spring, this will make it compress and settle much easier.
I have actually shortened detent spring by one turn and also replaced detent ball with lighter, plastic one - it was in a service kit from Dillon. I have also bought bearing kit for shell plate, that helped somewhat too. Now I only get powder spill when I don't degrease powder funnel after some time. For those who don't run powder check on position 3 there is also option to put a seating die there, or even better, move powder measure to position 3 and when going down with the shaft, place bullet right after powdering a case. It takes little practice but it's definitely best solution. Personally fixes above solved my problem and I run bullet feeder on position 3 anyway. No need for powder check, as I have solved that by using endoscope camera from Aliexpress and iPad. Endoscope camera is placed in a hole for powder check rod :)
Good idea highboy, I have seen other ways to adjust this and yours is the easiest! This is the one area where I wish Dillon would do what Hornady does. Perhaps Hornady has some kind of patent on it? The 1/2 the rotation on the upstroke .1/2 the rotation on the downstroke= Less Inertia of spin on the tall powder filled case :) I was minutes from buying a blue press and I decided to go with team red. I may get a blue one later but so far I am happy.
bud why didnt you just get the detent mod kit from hitfactor on fleabay with the lighter spring and soft polimer ball, and the thrust bearing kit for the shell plate bolt
@@littlewolf5485 My wife and I are on the home stretch of paying our home off. We will be debt free so we are pinching every penny we can. I am aware of all the different upgrades for the Dillons. The problem is I have 3 of them and the upgrades are not 100% and that will add up for all three. I have a friend with 4 XL650's and he did the upgrades. They did not help him. Cool Aide is generally red so you must mean Hornady Presses.
Why do we need to rebuild something we just bought. My 750 is brand new, powder every where, i didn't know there was so many upgrades.

I would think that tightening down the base plate would offset the spring compression you do.

If I reduce height of the spring, will this affect other calibers? I only have one machine.
