    I'll be 53 within days, I've had long hair on and off since I was 16. The very last time I had very long hair was 2012, at 42... back then I cut the whole thing because I noticed some hair loss had started.
    Now, 10 years later, I can tell the loss is still going on, you can bet on it, but very slowly: I have no bald patches yet and no receding hairline, I can only see a little bit more of "naked" skin, but just a tiny little bit and using two mirrors, on my crown, so I decided to give my dear long hair one last shot untill it's too late. Just entered the fifth month of growth.
    Keep on growing!!!!

    • @EricBandholz
      @EricBandholz ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Your hair loss / thinning sounds pretty similar to mine. I'm definitely thinner in my crown than when I was younger; but as I've aged I've just become a little better at accepting it. If it ever goes completely thin than I think I'll get a transplant.

    • @mellilore
      @mellilore ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@EricBandholz Honestly I don't see my hair going "completely thin" too soon being at this point at nearly 53 (same as for you IMO, if you are in your early 40, right when I first noticed some loss had started on me). Anyway, sure like hell crown (and even some more) will show, sooner or later. No transplant for me. I think I'll go a very decent Clint Eastwood instead, as I have comparatively more hair than he did at my actual age (for reference 1982-1983). But hey, to each his own ;-)

    Been growing my hair out since 2020 and made the bad mistake of not getting it trimmed for over a year. My ends were very damaged and I was also getting bad knots whenever I put it in a bun. But even after just one trim last month, my hair feels and looks way better! Good tips. Also I like the light set up. It is a little "distracting" and the cuts when you punch in on your face look more abrupt because there is a color switch. But I still think it is unique and cool so if you like it, I think it works!

    One thing I’ve learned growing hair.. the less you wash with shampoo and harmful chemicals, the better. Sometimes I’ll go a few weeks not using shampoo. Your hair will get used to it. Stripping your hair of natural oils everyday will make your skin work overtime for creating more oils. Everything will balance itself out.

    Been growing out my hair for 3+ years.
    Biggest thing I've learned is that my hair is wavey, not straight. Trying to blow dry and make wavey hair straight makes mine frizzy. I finger comb my hair and use leave in conditioner and curl cream, no frizz and I get compliments every day from random people about my hair.
    Also, careful with hair ties. Get nylon for putting your hair in a bun for bed and nylon hair ties for every day use. I had a big problem with breakage from cotton hair ties.
    I've never used styling paste or sea salt spray. For most people seasalt spray makes grease and oils stay off their hair, mine for whatever reason gets greasy from sea salt spray and I'd rather not have to wash my hair every day. I wash mine every 3 days and use dry shampoo every 2 days.

    • @DropoutJerome
      @DropoutJerome ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@frivolouspanda if you're drying it by rubbing a towel on your head it's going to be frizzy regardless. I let mine air dry after wrapping it in a microfiber towel. If I'm in a hurry I use a diffuser attachment on my hair dryer. Then once it's damp I put in some leave in conditioner and curl cream. Theres a leave in conditioner on Amazon that you can find by just searching "mens leave in conditioner" that has a bourbon and cedar scent that's pretty good.

    My hair is 21in. Regular trims was essential as I wanted all one length. Im 61 and not a strand of gray. I have men and women approach me all the time. They ask what I do to keep it looking so good. First off, it took me 6 years to get it looking so good. Also, I use Sesame Oil twice each week. Believe me, I took a lot of flack, during the growing phase. Some days, I wanted to give up. But, I noticed that every three days,, it looked better. I wash my hair daily. The Sesame Oil protects it against dryers. I use Lemon Oil Head and Shoulders Shampoo and Elive Shampoo and Elise Conditioner. Now, my hair is straight. Always, always rinse out the product. My hair is now two inches shy of my belt line. I rarely do a ponytail as it stretches the hair. Good Luck!

    What I want and what I have is in constant conflict with one another. I'm a 26 year old male and have longish hair (used to have it extremely long and tied into a ponytail, now it's more like medium length) but I also don't have the most optimal in terms of beard growth and wear glasses. I desperately want the grown out look and have been doing so albeit not the way I want it to, and I feel like my genes don't really comply. My hair is wavy and thus my 'curls' only become visible when my hair has grown out some. I hate it and wish I could have had either fully straight hair or fully curly hair. My beard is still kind of patchy although I keep it neatly trimmed, and I'm on minoxidil to increase my hairs there. My beard must be what frustrates me the most because I've wanted to have a full beard ever since I was fourteen, and now I'm twelve years down the line and still not happy about it. I won't give it up though. I'd rather be bald on my scalp than on my cheeks so if the minoxidil won't give me anything then I'd even be willing to sacrifice every single hair on the top of my head for a beard transplant, although I don't imagine that that's what it would take. I don't like looking like a boy so I'm working what I have currently in regards to the beard. My most dense areas are the sideburns, under the chin and in the neck, though I regularly shave a large portion of the neck away.
    I hate that my beard is not fuller around my mouth because I sometimes get so insecure when I look into the mirror. To me, it feels as though a trans woman is looking back at me, not a man. People don't seem to agree with the way I look at myself but still, I wish I could look a bit more like you, Eric. My hair has kind of the same texture and pattern but mine is a little darker. My beard looks sort of full when allowed to grow longer but then it also tends to look unkempt because my beard is curly and thin.

    however i literally just let it grow until navel length and then cut it to shoulder length each time.
    idk, it just works this way. both things have their highlights. sure, the navel length looks nice, when you swing it around and stuff, but what good does it do with the split ends? shoulder length is less impressive, but it looks neat all straight cut. i just had a major cut 3 weeks ago. back to shoulder length for a while.

    Started not cutting my hair in November 2019 it's to the middle of my back now. I like the look of having it long but it is annoying to deal with. Showers take hours it feels like dealing with my mane. And I could easily weave someone a nice toupee once a month with the amount of hair that comes out on a daily basis from either breakage, male pattern hair loss, or just terminal hairs deciding to stop clinging on. But somehow its all still there no matter how much shedding occurs. Anyway I have been thinking of getting like 6 inches cut off to maybe feel better and have less knots and issues. But still I wouldnt get rid of my long hair even with all that crap I just said.

    I haven't cut my hair not even the split ends since 2011, and it got to terminal length about five years ago. I let it grow evenly from a completely shaved head when I noticed my top was thinning. Once I got past the awkward stage I started to get lots of compliments and girls talking to me and wanting to date me just because of my hair. And what's funny is that it's less maintenance the longer it is. I have curls so as long as I wash condition and comb it out and drip dry it once or twice a week it looks great all the time. If I sweated a lot and my scalp needs washed then I just put my hair in a bun and get the scalp without getting the bun wet. It combs right back into the dry part nicely. I do construction so keeping it in a pony tail does good to keep the curls locked and and avoid dirt and get frizzy. Another thing I can do for more volume is head bang the water out and then let it hang dry. If I want smoother shinier tight curls for a formal event I will dry my hair in a ponytail before bed. When it lays across a pillow the curls can really dry in tight. I don't need to use any hair spray or gel. To get the tangles out I will pull the thick locks apart from the bottom. My hair gets dreadlocked after just a few days so it has to be pulled out of tangles before combing. So if you're worried about all that then you should grow your hair as long as possible especially if you're buff or ripped. The long hair with the muscle drives women crazy. They call me Tarzan a lot. And they think I spend money to keep my hair prettier than their but I rarely have to mess with it. Once a week at most do I comb it brush it. So don't let it intimidate you. Become tarzan.

    If you stop washing your hair everyday the oil will eventually slow down, by washing everyday your head makes more oil to replace what you just washed away🤷🏻‍♂️🤗

    Long hair is for young guys. If you're older and your hair is thinning, cut it short. Long thinning hair is not attractive.

    It's not the type of hair what makes it oily, but the damage done from using those chemical based shampoos, like washing hair with shampoo every day, duuude, you are literally asking to be bald. Or is it that you thought that the chemicals in the products are just so safe and totally natural? I mean do whatever you want with your hair that's on you, but don't put it out. It's absolutely horrible like the society just accepts every fucking narrative as safe and healthy, just because a few bunch of so called professionals said so. Do you think that our ancestors were using some unpronounceable shit on their hair? I don't think so. All you need is warm water and finish with cold. If you want a fragrance put a drop of an essential oil diluted in water and massage into your hair. #nopoo
