Fair assessment but understand that there isn't much that any phone can do to be a consider a major upgrade. Companies might add a little more here and there with every new release. However one upgrade that companies fail to do and people has been wanting for this forever is good battery life. Why is it that they can't seem to make improvement in this particular area? I truly do love my G7 Plus - IP68, Sabre Quad Dac, Briiliant Haptics, Wireless Charging, Loud boombox speaker, MIL - STD certification (I have dropped this phone so many times and all I have to show are minor scruffs and dents), Quad HD display and the best Bluetooth performance I have seen in a phone. All that I got for just about 450 dollars (about 16 months back). Incredible stuff. Seriously I will find it difficult to replace this phone - features like IP68 rating and wireless charging are rare to find at this price. The only two negative are that LG is terribly slow and erratic with updates and the battery is decidely mediocre. These are frustrating though and may make me replace it eventually after 2 years of use.
The v40 only has 100mah over the v20's battery? And it's non-replaceable? And it's $200 more at launch? I'm so glad reviewers kept pushing for more "premium" feeling phones over the years because they wanted everyone to copy Apple.
LG is the only company to release the same phone twice in a year. And it's not working for them. The G6/V30 G7Tq/V40Tq were basically the G6/7 and G6/7 plus. At first the V line was to be something to take on the Galaxy Note line which made sense at the time. So the G line competed with the Galaxy S. But since the V line has become a Glorified Gplus. Now they fight on 2 fronts with great devices that never get a fair shake. LG should rebrand the G and V line to something like LG thinq 8 or something and release both phones as to variants of the same phone around the month of July. A full month before the Note and 2 before the iPhone. Forget the Galaxy s series... My 2 cents.😉
Got the G7 in August and love it. Not worth the price to upgrade for slightly better features. Do wish the battery life was better, but fast charging makes that issue not too unbearable. Oh. I checked and it looks like I did get the video upgrade.
I got the g7 4 months ago for 100 when I traded my s9 in for it. I'm very satisfied the camera is just as good the wide angle camera is awesome the sound of the g7 compared to the s9 is not even close. The boom box speakers and quad fax is untouchable. I'm playing on getting the v40 but I'm happy be I thought the g7. It's gonna be way better when it gets pie. I have no complaints about this phone except the battery is kinda small but it get back full day and I am a heavy user
Similar situation. I had the S7 for the last 3 years and upgraded to the V40 for $400 Factory Unlocked from eBay this year. Best electronic I've ever bought tbh. 7:31 seems like the v40 is more prone to lens flare which can be an issue even with night shots on florescent lighting. While the v40 does seem to take better stills with less dark images, it's not really an insane difference between the two.
I just hope it doesn't give you the flicker screen like my LG G3 i have it since it came out, still aesthetically pleasing but, it has that hardware problem.. Im looking for a new phone. But, is the LG G7 worth it?

Your review is very comprehensive, complete and excellent n every respect... I always like your reviews a lot, as they are always used be very interesting, informative and useful.. Thank you
I have 4K 60FPS since August . G7 is far more better than One Plus 6 . Is has the same price. G7 has EVERYTHING that a flagship phone needs. 1+is the one that lacks a ton of features and I dont get how someone says that it's better than G7
I'm on Verizon, and just got a software update a couple days ago, and I do now have 4K @60fps. So it must be rolling out. Also, the G7 does have the HDR10 compliance.
A very very pleasant review.... And I like it... As you have said, both the phones are fantastic.... Now, no confusion... LG 40 is better than the G7+ thinq in many areas.... And even better than many other flagship phones in the market right now.... My only concern about the LG phones is that they don't upgrade the software so often.....
If we're talking even yearly upgrade (i.e S8 v S9, LG v30 v v40, IPhone 7 v 8), then every single upgrade is unjustified. Processors, megapixels, ppi's, etc can barely be felt on an everyday basis. And "new features" are no longer original or significant enough to justify yearly upgrades. Won't stop me though... Lol.
When it comes to handling, I prefer the size of the G7 being a little thinner. The V30 and V35 are a little too wide for me and the V40 follows that trend.
G6 is pretty darn good. I probably would still have it if i didnt get the moisture cant charge issue and bootloops, battery went faulty. Phone overheats with big games. But if you dont have those issues its a good phone.
Need a bit of help. My current Droid Turbo 2 has been behaving really badly after almost 3 years. It is dying really fast, turning off when it hits 40% and using basic apps like Facebook, chrome and TH-cam always get me "X has stopped working" After a bunch of research I finally decided on the G7 over a S9 with the wide-angle lense and boom box speakers being the selling points. As I was about to buy it I found out about the V40. Now I can't decide what I want to get. That other Galaxy phone coming out also looks interesting. As much as I would like to be patient and wait to see what a Galaxy 10 can offer, this Droid is making that impossible.
Get the v40. My mom had the Droid turbo 2, I had the Droid turbo 1. We had the same problems. I would say get the v40. The camera is a DRASTIC difference compared to Droid turbo 2. I know because I work at T-Mobile and I play with it v40 demo all the time. Also the v40 has project treble compared to Motorola so most likely LG will release faster updates to the phone since it's the newest this year.
Also, I believe if you pre order the v40 before the 16th, you get a free 256gb micro SD card and a mobile gimbo for home movies with cine shot and it's also a selfie stick. So just get the v40 man.
Hmm, going by the comments, so many ppl seem to have gotten some sort of updates on their g7. And here i am, owning a G7+, indian variant with no updates in over 2 months, July security patch
4:00 if the g7 is on the right then I think the g7 actually looks better then the OLED v40. The colors are much more punchy and accurate where as the v40 looks like it has way too much contrast in the images
So I bought my V20 mainly for the 32-bit DAC and I use that feature daily as I like my tunes to sound good. While it's obvious the cameras are improved in the V40 (and my V20 camera stinks) above the G7, as someone who doesn't take a lot of pics and videos, I'm thinking the G7 is the way to go right now. It's only $620 at Costco on Verizon including a $30 card vs. what they saying is $980 on Verizon for the V40. Seems like a no-brainer for me. So few reviews focus on the audio capabilities of LG phones and hardly anyone mentions audio in comments. Am I one of the few that care about this? My Sony headphones are bluetooth as well, and since my V20 finally upgraded to Android 8.0, having LDAC built into Android makes the wireless bluetooth almost as good as the wired connection, so I can relate to why people don't need headphone jacks or 32-bit DACs, but I like the convenience. If I could find a new OEM LG battery for my V20 that wasn't $100, I would just hold on to my V20, but the two batteries I have are almost shot. Can't make it but a few hours on heavy use.
I must be one of the rare breeds, audio is literally one of the first things I look for in phones, I've had the g7 thinq/v20/v35/v40. Currently have been loving the v40 above everything at the moment. Audio really stands out with this series above anything else out
The G7 is at least 3 times better than the One Plus 6, 6t. The One Plus phones are for people with bad credit who want high end specs...lets be honest. My main daily driver is a XS Max, 512, turned in my X silver 256 to upgrade but I rock the G7 right next to the XS! Not flossing or bragging...just giving out facts.
Nope..you're giving out your facts...not true facts. Don't knock one plus phones..they're really fast and always update alot faster then most..the one plus phones you have to pay for outright, no installments like on a carrier. the iPhone in my opinion xs Max is a nice looking phone but it's still apple which is the same old boring ass restricted software...Pass.... G7 has a Better camera then one plus...that's about it..
I loved the v10 one of my all time favorite phones and the v series is just the g7 plus for real they need to go back to the drawing board on the v phones and make it a different phone all together than the g series like you pointed out
I never said the G7 was bad but when looking at certain things there is most certainly a night and day difference between these 2 phones and for many other things the differences are extremely small hence why I said in the beginning many companies are blending their models together.
My LG G3 had soldier issues, causing my wifi to stop working. It also overheated like crazy. My LG V20 has screen retention issues, and i had to replace the thermal paste to help with the counter throttling. Lg g4 bootlooped. If you want an LG phone, wait 6 months, and get it half off on swappa.
Great video content wise, but you might want to revisit how you're mixing your voice for your videos. Theres some weird ducking with whatever compression you're using that makes it tough to listen to

Your review is very comprehensive, complete and excellent n every respect...
I always like your reviews a lot, as they are always used be very interesting, informative and useful.. Thank you
Thank you for the kind words!
I have 4K 60FPS since August . G7 is far more better than One Plus 6 . Is has the same price. G7 has EVERYTHING that a flagship phone needs. 1+is the one that lacks a ton of features and I dont get how someone says that it's better than G7
Which one has a better sounding speaker?
G5
I want to get the V40 through Verizon. Will the Verizon version come with earphones?
I just got a G7 less than a month ago. I think I'll stick with it since I prefer the slimmer form factor over the fatter V series.
Lgg7thinq is 👑 king
I'm on Verizon, and just got a software update a couple days ago, and I do now have 4K @60fps. So it must be rolling out. Also, the G7 does have the HDR10 compliance.
You can get V40 for buy one get one, so 350 to 400 bucks. PS The retail went down to 800.
Wider is better than narrower for multiple people viewing or viewing at further distances
it's also better for dropping. at least in my hands it is!
@@moonzie1980 not for me, the g7 feels like a remote, I hate the aspect ratio
I got the update 😆 4K60FPS is absolutely amazing! I have the Sprint G7 😋
Compare the V40 to the V35 and V30
I stick with my G6...there is nearly nothing to complain about it
G6 is pretty darn good. I probably would still have it if i didnt get the moisture cant charge issue and bootloops, battery went faulty. Phone overheats with big games. But if you dont have those issues its a good phone.
Need a bit of help. My current Droid Turbo 2 has been behaving really badly after almost 3 years. It is dying really fast, turning off when it hits 40% and using basic apps like Facebook, chrome and TH-cam always get me "X has stopped working"
After a bunch of research I finally decided on the G7 over a S9 with the wide-angle lense and boom box speakers being the selling points.
The v40 will last you longer as far as design and technology wise.
Also, I believe if you pre order the v40 before the 16th, you get a free 256gb micro SD card and a mobile gimbo for home movies with cine shot and it's also a selfie stick. So just get the v40 man.
I'm going to go with the $70 G6. It's in great condition too.
In India G7thinq plus has 6gb & 128gb for 40000₹INR means 543 dollars....
Hmm, going by the comments, so many ppl seem to have gotten some sort of updates on their g7. And here i am, owning a G7+, indian variant with no updates in over 2 months, July security patch
Just got my V40 for $750 retail... pretty happy about that
4:00 if the g7 is on the right then I think the g7 actually looks better then the OLED v40. The colors are much more punchy and accurate where as the v40 looks like it has way too much contrast in the images
G7 is on the left and V40 on the right
So I bought my V20 mainly for the 32-bit DAC and I use that feature daily as I like my tunes to sound good.
Just looked on Verizon, and they're selling the V40 for just $780 to everyone ($200 off) and another $100 if new line. So not as easy of an answer.
I must be one of the rare breeds, audio is literally one of the first things I look for in phones, I've had the g7 thinq/v20/v35/v40. Currently have been loving the v40 above everything at the moment. Audio really stands out with this series above anything else out
@@Th3Hunter333 dies the g7 sound as good as the v20. thx...
V40 isn't brighter, the display is just larger. More light is hitting your eyes.
I like your video comparison. You still speak well
That's debatable
What features does one plus have over the g7??
Apple is trash.
After few updates for the V40,it going be perfect
this is a really good review
🙏
I loved the v10 one of my all time favorite phones and the v series is just the g7 plus for real they need to go back to the drawing board on the v phones and make it a different phone all together than the g series like you pointed out
well G7 isn't as bad, and for sure its not day night difference as you say compared to V40.
If you want an LG phone, wait 6 months, and get it half off on swappa.
i have never had problems with LG hardware but definitely agree on waiting for it to get cheaper lol
I hv G3 (screen issue, flickering issue, bootloop), G4 (bootloop) look this gen hving issue.
G7 IS KING!
thanks a lot for this comparison!! thumbs high. I would like to see the comparison between V40 - Huawei Mate20 pro!
The g7 can view content in hdr just search up hdr videos on TH-cam and you can up the quality to hdr
Great video content wise, but you might want to revisit how you're mixing your voice for your videos. Theres some weird ducking with whatever compression you're using that makes it tough to listen to
Hm, no sure exactly what you are hearing. I have played it back through speakers and hand phones and do not notice any ducking.
Wow impressive review thumbs up
what is the short exposure time of LG G7 thinq?
I got my lg g7 thinq update for 4k 60 fps and i got no problem with it.
My G7 shoots 4K 60 normal, but doesn't in the cine or HDR video mode
Missed the buttons on the back like the v10 I also miss the second screen
It's called a notch for 2nd screen.
Me too. The V10 was a tank. I loved it.
@@jacure123 I think it still has a 2nd screen. I know the g7 has
Nope no upgraded for me sticking with the v30 well due to the notch.
Sounds a little biased but.....Facts
V40 is better than Galaxy note 9 in my opinion
Why's that?
What do you like better?
Simon Emilifaxe lol
Everything is better. It's also easier to repair(open), and It's cheaper.
@@leo77748 Exactly. Don't you just love people that state their opinion, contrary to any available evidence, and then never support their opinion with anything that could even be remotely mistaken for a fact...lol
Yes, you should upgrade to the V30+ and have a notch-free, long batteried life.
No one complains about the Apple 10' s notch which is way wider and more obtrusive.
LG V40 ThinQ vs iPhone Xs max vs pixel 3 xl vs Samsung Galaxy note 9 camera comparison
Cool wallpaper! Where did you get it?
Thank you so much you help ....... I'm going to buy G7 but I cannot buy....... I buy v40
Watching this on my g6's native 18:9 screen and what i can say is I'll just wait g8 next year
18:9 Displays suck for TH-cam Videos
Where did he get that wallpaper from ? It looks 4d
Do yall think the lg v40 will bring the lg g7 thinq price down?
I bought my G7 from Google's project fi for $450
Not worth it. I'm waiting for the v50
Correction: G7 does have HDR10 support
My mom has never had a flag ship phone. On the day of release, without even knowing it at the time, i upgraded my mom's shit phone to the V40. And i got the g7. Now she's got the better phone lol. Since she's included on my wife and i's plan, i also upgraded my wife to the note 9. Guess we're set for at least a year.
it would be right to compare V30 vs V40
I am from India and my G7+ ThinQ does support 4k with 60 fps!
India is a smelly place.
Can you make a video compare Lg v40 and Huawei mate 20 pro?
