deeply impressed. deeply. ... I know both machines and you manage to keep it aesthetically pleasing with that sort of randomization present. its incredible. applause
I have read the explanation, and own the gear, but still have no idea how to do this. Still, a conceptually interesting and great sounding piece, whatever the heck is going on.
I really love your synthesis and creative method to generate your patterns, although I'm not quite sure I got it all. Mais avant tout, c'est très beau !
Nice, I am trying to build the framework for a generative ambient performance between my Virus and OT. On a side note, this reminded me of a song from the original Katamari Damacy game!
Thank you for the video, would be interested to know how you managed to make it sound generative. Been using the machine drum for a while now, but Im kind of dissatisfied with aspects of repetition.
This is lovely and smart! Congratulations! It´s not common to find this kind of generative music with those machines! Really well done!...one (so far...) question: "a random waveform generate events" how do you do that? is there a function like that in machinedrum, that creates random midi notes events?

Thanks! I use the Octatrack arpeggiator with random lfo to generate events, the machinedrum just record those events
Thanks for answering! another question...I understood the lfo generate those events trigger any of the sounds of the 128kits...how do you do that?are those sounds different notes? as far as I know, the MD only reproduce the sound of the active kit/sample of each track...how can you trig kits/sounds/sample that are not active on a track? I hope I´m not confusing...heheh....I love your random approach I want to learn how to go a similar way.
Obviously I'm late to the party, but I'll leave this reply here in case anyone wants to better undertand what he is doing: First off, the video description is worded a little strangely. I am 100% certain you can only sequence instruments within the loaded kit (via definable MIDI notes in the MIDI setup page). You CANNOT trigger whole kits, or instruments within a bank of non-loaded kits. I think what the video author is trying to say is that he has mapped kits to individual patterns via a Note Trig on all 128 of the Machinedrum's patterns an P-Locked each trigger to VOL 0. This way, each pattern is associated with a Kit. What is then happening is that he using two (or more) LFO's, one (or likely several) that is generating random notes in which the machinedrum is then recording (very easy to do, initiate live record on the MD, set LFO destination on OT to PTCH, adjust PTCH to the middle point of your chosen note range and then set depth to be whatever number would go over or under that range). Another LFO is doing the exact same thing, but this time within the note ranges that correspond to Pattern Change (in the MD's MIDI setup). Voila. These boxes are fantastic, but this is more of a demonstration of their capabilities. You can very easily achieve this sort of thing via the Octatrack alone, you would just need to be sufficiently creative and use the sample sequencer instead.
Super cool, going to have to play around with using the octatrack in a more generative way. Could you give any more info on how you had your recorders set up for this?
How can the LFO generate Midi Notes? Or how does this work? I can't understand the setup even with reading the description. I just work on a generative Setup in Ableton, but i want to transfer it maybe to the OT.
VERY COOL AND INSPIRING! I do have a machinedrum and am about to get an Octatrack, thanks to you ;) However the "events" triggered by the random waveform, is that accomplished through the MD or the OT? Thanks again for posting this video!
I think not, at least not the was S accomplished this. Random lfo wave on the OT is triggering a banks of kits/sounds on the MD, if I understand correctly. Apparently there’s recording of the midi (? or maybe the audio in MDUW sample ram?)

nice - id like to understand this set up more fully... im not up to speed with these two yet, but would love to learn this technique. I just have the standard MD not UW, could i just use a standard kit? still also figuring out how to make kits....
Hi Stephane, You haven't used any trigs on the octatrack, only arpegiator to trig the sounds of the md and the lfo is set to randomize triggering notes for the md. Am I right? and if yes did you use one trig for the arpegiator or did you use different trigs and muting some position so you have the silence in between? Thanks in advance and waiting for your reply

Hi Rami, I used one recorder trig (on two tracks) and one arp trig, no mutes
…try plogue bidule on a crappy pc for stochastic generative for nothing instead of this swedish money pit…but if you are an abstract box fetishisist…go for it…

Only just seeing this but I echo others comments, really impressive use of these machines. Love this sound.
This is incredibly creative intelligent work. I love it.
one of my favorite live performance, i have ever listened! amazing...
Wow..! original sounds and rhythms +Stéphane Bissières
Minimal, yet complex and beautiful.
This blows my mind. My mind is in standstill. I dont know what to say. This is now one of my favourite vids on yt
Absolument fantastique, bravo !!
Such a cool concept and superbly executed!
Just great! Hoping to set something similar up with my TR8 when I get my OT through
I have read the explanation, and own the gear, but still have no idea how to do this. Still, a conceptually interesting and great sounding piece, whatever the heck is going on.
merci j'ai passé un bon moment :)
For me....the md is still one of the best drummachines
I really love your synthesis and creative method to generate your patterns, although I'm not quite sure I got it all.

Enorme!
im ofiacially amazed!

On the MD you can assign CC to change pattern/kit
I'm pretty knowledgable about these boxes, but I cant seem to understand how you have this setup. Any chance of a video showing how you set it up?
😀
@DJ AVO (aka "DedEvsey") Scan down this thread and he gives the details: www.elektronauts.com/t/generative-music-octatrack-machinedrum/32649 :)

Why the masking tape?
we will never know...

very nice
incredible
This is really great
great, just great!
Very cool
Great work!!
Also why the tape?
Nice!

por cierto suena muy bien...
i'm now wondering if this could be achieved using the octatrack on it's lonesome?

can you explain those ugly stickers?

Yes you don't need uw, standard kits are fine
Stéphane Bissières ID love a tutorial on this set up happening here?? Looks like a great experiment.

Thanks Stephane for the reply
Please do a tutorial man.
🙌🎧
this is fantastic - what software did you use to drive it?
Thanks, I didn't use any software, just octatrack and machinedrum on their own:)
cool I've got OT+MD too !
good job
this definitely didn't help with my thought of trying to exchange my Rytm for a Machinedrum
I've been trying to understand how this is being done but I cannot piece it together from your current description. Are you using pickup machines?
No pickup machines, just recorder trigs :)
no se por que motivo tapas las marcas... todo el mundo ya conoce estas maquinas...

Brilliant!
Amazing!
