Your wife is a trooper man. The closest I’ve gotten mine to doing something like this was in a 27’ long trailer that was nicer than our house, and even then she complained lol. That teardrop looks great. Cheers 👍🏼
Another beautiful trip. I think one of those extended reach grippers like the older folks use to grap things might come in handy to position that topper on the tent. And maybe add some para cord to the corners so when positioned you can tie it on to the corner post. I really enjoy your videos
Wow, you get the blizzard trophy. Our current temp in TX is 17 with light dusting. Too cold for me! Watched your video on the tele earlier and came back on the phone to comment. Super video. You two are a couple of bad a$$e$ 🎉
Cascade concrete on the fenders :) I love seeing y'all out camping in conditions like you have. You look well prepared, and appear to have a plan if things go south. We have 'water snakes' along the bottom of both doors to soak up condensation. I also added a separate vent low on the side of the cabin to ensure there was some fresh air getting in. Between that and the MaxFan allowing some heat/air to escape out the top, we don't have too bad a problem except on the windows. Love the drone following the Pisten Bully. Beautiful!
Haha! It was actually unbelievably dry! Not used to that lol. Great idea on the snakes 👌🏻 Our fan was covered in a pile of snow so we didn't bother. Actually stayed dry with just one window open. That's a first. Thanks, bud!
You two definitely win the prize for winter camping! As I commented on your previous vid, I have a rectangular ROAM awning on each side of my teardrop, and taking a page from your book, I have a tarp that I set up similar to what you did in this vid. This combination works well for me, although I have a bit more room for gear fhan you do because I tow with a Gladiator. Regarding the fire-starters; my dad taught me to melt candles in a very shallow pan. Then you lay newspaper cut into strips in the hot wax, and then wrap the newspaper strips around a long stick and let it cool. Depending on how much paper/wax you used, each of these will burn really well for about an hour or longer. You just light one and stick it in your kindling. Never fails to light. I'll spend a couple of hours making a stack of them in the spring and then use a couple each trip.
Dale, you win the prize for best fire starter idea!! That is brilliant!! Your Dad is brilliant! Lol That is next on the to-do list 👍🏻 Really need to check out these awning rooms!
That’s for sharing your adventures with us. I love both your attitude! Everything a learning experience. You guys look like you are having fun. And your reactions are so candid. It’s refreshing. See you in your next! I am a new subscriber ❤️
"get out of the way snow plow!!!* 😅 Another great video... My wife looks at me like I'm crazy when. I suggest going camping when it's cold. I can't imagine asking her if she wants to go in a foot of snow 😂
This is one of your best videos! It looks like so much fun except I don’t have a heater and my teardrop. I camped in below freezing weather with my 0° bag and heavy clothes. It was warm enough… As long as you don’t have to get up! Really fun video!
Love you guys. We also have a jeep wrangler and a tear drop. Also a 4runner with a rooftop tent (roofnest). We love all of it. Watching you guys always makes me smile. Keep up your great work. Look forward to more of your adventures. ❤
@@WheresWiseman I've got many setups. Lol. Trailer, gazelle t4 tent, and my Harker Outdoors edc topper on my Gladiator. Here in Wyoming the weather isn't the best. Was -26 with windchill of -45.
We build a snow drift or set something up on the other side of our fire to reflect the heat back! Give 'er a whirl next time you are out. Will keep ya nice and toasty!
Oh, and I got rid of the flimsy heat shield and bought a 3'x3' fire retardant mat from Amazon to throw under the pit. Not an issue in snow but it prevents embers and burning ends off the ground.
Wow! .. so beautiful out there! What an epic camping trip! May be we should have added a heater to our teardrop 😂 but then again we don’t do much winter camping.
know it sounds weird, try burning presto type logs in your fire pit. they are cheaper and burn longer. I burn regular wood to make a bed of coals at first, then switch to presto logs. i use them in my firepits and in the wood stove in my 12x12 Alaknak. tip number 2, if you find alot of chunky bark (12"x 18") add them to your fire once established making a cone....keeps fires burning in light rain and its a warm fire.
Great video and kudos for getting out there in a blizzard! We just returned from Joshua Tree NP today and it wasn’t as cold as you guys! I’ll stop complaining 😂 As far as fire starters. I use Vaseline too dipped with Q-tips.
If you have wax warmers at home have her clean them out with cotton balls and save those, great fire starters. That's what my girl does and they work so good.
I have one of those firepits. I ordered a set of bars that go across the mesh on the inside. I was afraid the heavier logs would tear the mesh. The bars work out great for those heavier logs and when I use the dutch oven. Nice video.
You guys should check out those tents that are made to connect to the side of the pop up canopy's. I have a couple of them and put one on each end. They are plenty big for two people or , like me, 1 person can have like a whole bedroom type setup.
Cotton balls and petroleum jelly are my go to fire starters. Compact and easy and work. I have used potato chips once. That worked ok, but it takes quite a lot of chips to get a fire going.
Great video!! What do you do with your boots? That is to keep them from being filled with snow. I can't imagine bringing them inside. I have plastic containers for my shoes that I keep outside to keep them dry when it rains.
We typically put them on top of a bin under each side but for this trip we did bring them in! Put them in disposable poop bags to keep them from dripping all over us 😅 Have an idea for the future though, just need to find the right size 👍🏻
Great video! I have a question about your dometic slide out, I have looked a lot trying to find one like yours that slides out side ways, the only ones I’ve seen are the ones that pull straight out, can you tell me where you found your? Thanks for a great video I have hit the bell and subscribe to see more videos from you.
Honestly, I save my lint from our dryer for fire starters. It works pretty good!!! My best friend and I always wanted to camp in the winter, but our wimpy husbands don't!!! We would be tent camping. Hopefully, we can make it happen someday!! I suggested that we start off in my backyard as a trail run,...Hahahaha.
Awesomeness! Like others, I use dryer lint. But, I stuff egg cartons and pour hot wax all over them. I get a 4 inch flame for 10 minutes out of each egg slot. How do you guys wash your hands post raw meat prep and bathroom with cold temps and small Jerry can? Why don’t you turn heat up past 55 if your propane lasts so long? Do you carry sat phone?
Love that idea!! For cleanliness, we do a lot of prep prior so we don't really have to handle the meat. Use tongs to pull out and cook. We also bring hand sani for the hands. At that cold of temp outside the heater would be kicking on and off every couple minutes so we keep it lower. We're both okay sleeping in cooler temps so 45-50 is perfect for us. The heater is more of a tool to keep us outdoors year round than to keep us as comfortable as home 👍🏻 Appreciate the feedback and questions!!
@@WheresWiseman So is the propex annoyingly loud inside the galley? Would you recommend putting it outside or in a toolbox? Also, do you ever turn off fridge in cold temps to conserve power?
You can definitely hear it but it's more of a white noise. It is mounted outside which really helps 👍🏻 Definitely go for that model. We just leave the fridge on. With the cold temps it most likely won't run anyway. When on standby, it hardly consumes anything at all.
@@WheresWiseman I just went on the Timberleaf website and build sheet. I didn't know that they installed the propex heater under the floor of the trailer. I've scoured your videos and can't find a scene where you show that. Tho I might have missed it. Would love an in-depth about your heater setup in a future video. Thanks!
Just found your channel recently! I live in Tacoma, have a Slumber Jack awning, same fire pit with the same grate, also have a Costco pop up. Keep up the great videos. I know you don’t want to identify the campsites to cut down the number of people using it but it would be nice to know for us newbies.
Thanks, Lawrence! Glad you found us! Yeah, we're always on the fence about sharing locations, especially local to us. However, just ping us via Instagram or Facebook and we'll gladly share via message. Most the time lol
Typically we put our boots on top of a bin under the trailer however this cold night we put them in poop bags (so they wouldn't drip on us) and placed them in our cabin storage mesh lol. Jackets just get stashed on our side or laid over our sheets/sleeping bags 👍🏻
If you had parked your vehicle behind the fireplace is it possible that it would have worked as a reflecting wall and thrown more of the heat under the lumberjack?
This was crazy amount of snow. What do you do for bathroom? How fast do you drive on the road? I would walknfaster then I could drive in that much snow lol I cheat and use fire starter logs. Whole or cut in sections (chainsaw). If the ground is wet, I put down tin foil then my log.
Dig a hole or setup a bag 😅 As fast as we feel comfortable up to that limit 😉 haha. It's not cheating, it's just what you do! There's no wrong way to adventure as long as you're having fun 👍🏻
In watching camping in other parts of the country I see guys cutting firewood. I know that cutting wood is not allowed in national parks and state parks. I see that you buy firewood. Are there places where cutting wood is allowed? Looking into an electric chainsaw but not sure it’s practical in the NW. Any thoughts?
Great question! It really depends on where we are going whether we purchase wood or not. If we know it's a state or national park, wilderness area or inclement weather, we always purchase some as backup. However in Washington and probably most areas in the country, you can gather firewood for campfires on managed public land/state/national forests as long as there are no signs stating not to. And of course mind those burn bands. You also never want to transport wood over 10 miles from where you gathered it so never take it with ya 😉 Hope this helped, definitely go for that chainsaw! 🪚
Thank you both for the great video!!!!! I love that you can do this and they don’t shut the mountains off like they do here. I needed this video.
Glad you enjoyed it, our pleasure!! They shut a lot down here as well, just gotta search even harder!! 👌🏻
