@mak. Grisha only sees what Eren wants him to see. When he can see Zeke, Eren is standing in a spot where Grisha can see Zeke through Eren's eyes. That is why he reacts like he's seen a ghost. Same thing happens when he and Eren are looking at each other. he can't see Eren really, but he's actually looking at himself through Eren. Why Eren was shocked I think is just how they drew it in the anime, I don't think he reacted as much in the manga. It possibly could be because he just figured out why he needed to be in the Paths with Zeke, because he can interact with Grisha and start the whole chain of events we know happens. Grisha only got what Eren wanted him to. That's why he asked about Carla, about the day the Walls fall etc. He knows the Rumbling will happen but doesn't understand what it is and why it will, Eren just showed that it keeps Eldia safe. Grisha only saw these memories thanks to Eren coming into contact with Zeke and being able to traverse the Paths. Basically, Grisha on his own, would never had been able to interact with the memories like he did. He would have been like Eren without anyone with royal blood, having dreams or nightmares about future events. Meaning that Eren was able to do all of this thanks to Zeke and him being able to bypass the King's Will and unlock the full power of the Founding Titan which Eren could then take over.
@mak. So I'll break your post down bit by bit: You basically answered your first question. He just did not know. I will go into why with your next part about the event happening. Everything we've been watching has already happened. We know this because Grisha already killed the Reiss family and he even has memories of the Rumbling. Later, there is more evidence to explain this that comes from Eren himself but explaining that would be a giant spoiler if you are anime only. Just know that the timeline we follow in the show, is the only one and what happened and what will happen are the only things that WILL happen. If you have to, read that part again because this latter half of the story starts to really get far out there with the themes revolving around time, perspective, and cycles. So how did the event happen? Like you commented last time, you said that Eren needed specific triggers well who's to say that Grisha thinking of Zeke while dreaming was not one for him? Same thing with Grisha and Eren when Grisha mentions the basement and the key. These could all be necessary triggers that unlock the memory in his mind, otherwise I'm sure it is just like our memories, disorientating scenes that don't make sense until we piece them together. Also, it could be that Grisha simply had somewhat mastered this ability to read future memories which is why they are so clear. It could be that since future Eren has gained better control over the Attack Titan's special ability that they work in tandem to create better flowing images that make sense. We can infer this because Eren literally dreams his father's upbringing near the end of s3. I think the better control over the memory power, the clearer the image or images you can send back. I cannot say for certain but this can work only one of two ways. It is like taking a bunch of snapshots and sending them, or recording segments and sending them. When Eren was not fully in control of this power he probably could only send snapshots to himself. By the time he meets Zeke and they actually touch, Eren is clearly in control of his Titan on every front, including the memory power. This means he could probably send short video-like memories to himself and Grisha. Sorry, this is a lot to read but as you can tell it takes some thinking to really wrap your head around the basic understanding of it all. Hopefully that covers everything you were asking. I'll definitely continue to clarify if something does not make sense.

The reactors on the right are one of my favorites. They are pretty quick to analyze what is going on and figured out how this is all possible. They also take the time to think about things while reacting in the moment. LIke the guy in the purple shirt saying "Eren saw Grisha getting gassed up by Eren" Or something like that, like damn that was fast to figure out. Looking forward to how they react to last few volumes of the manga because shit starts getting even more weird until the end.

Trust me, i have seen many movies, series and tv dramas but this twist is different and i literally went crazy after seeing this. AOT really set the ceiling high in terms of writing style, simply amazing.
Yes, I've never seen a show that nearly perfect but AoT. Isyama is the only person that remind me : "If human can create this kind of plot and story, imagine what god the almighty could do"
If you think about it, it’s especially fucked up since eren didn’t even give grisha the solace of knowing whether or not Carla died, because it didn’t suit his needs at the time. Which is another point in the “pure evil” category
@@gheddafiduck8239 if you what the episode where eren first gets injected he says “you haven’t been acting the same since mom died” either there or when he first meets kid eren post church he finds out Carla is dead, eren never shows him the memory.
@@AM-qw8zd he’s not letting his own father know whether or not his wife is dead, and only sees him as a vessel to store his memories for when he kisses historia’s hand
I think that eren really meant grisha, from my understanding eren despised grisha because he saw that he couldn't kill the children and so put it on eren's shoulders instead, saving his conscious and putting that weight on eren.
Bro in the top is on point, the Attack Titan doesn't really have the ability to see the future, they all just happened to have memories sent to them by Eren because he had both Attack and Founder. This is also ironic because it means they aren't free. They are guided by Eren's memories. Eren is what makes the Attack Titan the titan for freedom, and he's the reason it "has" that ability.
Initially I thought the Attack titan was somehow hiding this from the Founder but this blew my mind. Eren gaslighting them all to believe it's an Attack titan ability instead of his own manipulation was funny af tho
the scene where Grisha is flailing around screaming and pleading after kill them is chilling. Incase folks are watching this is how you use jump cuts and missing frames. Most tv (and movies) does it wrong but this is how you do it. To make the audience feel the sense of panic and anxiety and loss of control people felt in that moment.
So the biggest plot twist is that when the Attack Titan was described as "fighting for freedom", it was never itself fighting for freedom. It was manipulated by Eren from the future for 2000 years, to fight for that particular future, where Eren would gain the Attack and Founding Titans for himself.
Yup. Also, it should be called The Time Titan or something. The Term attack yitan probably came from its last use. It was a titan used to attack humanity. Hence, even the name is linked to Eren and Eren only.
@@abhabh6896it's probably called attack titan to "attack" the king's self righteousness as stated by grisha. Or probably because the people who inherits attack titan doesn't bow down to anyone (which is probably the result of eren manipulating every attack titan inheritors)
When you realize, EREN was in CONTROL the entire time, even in the Title of the episode, To you, 2,000 years in the future, had to be about eren and his father and zeke having no idea, it was eren who convinced grisha to kill those children, sh*t. The special power to see into the future, now that, is TRUE POWER that can't be defeated or taken. He won, nothing else, no one can stop that.
This episode right here is the greatest episode in history. This is the peak. Eren being the mastermind behind everything that happened even before he was born was just beyond anything I could ever imagine.
The crazy thing is that it's likely that the Attack Titan had no special power. Maybe just really good combat skills, but no actual future sight power like the inheritors think they did. It was all Erin feeding the previous wielders with his memories.
Which is like future sight, because for it to be possible the future had to be set in stone until that point. Maybe even beyond. So it is an ability given by Eren himself to the other wielders of the attack Titan.
@@DundG Exactly. The ability is to be shown memories of the future - the wielder doesn’t have control. Eren has control over what they are shown. By virtue of the time shenanigans in the power, the ability is inherent to the Attack Titan, because of Eren in the future being able to send memories through paths using the Founder. Every Attack Titan was led by Eren’s Founder powers to ensure Eren would be able to receive the Founding Titan, allowing him to send the past wielders the memories they needed to get him to that point.
That is the power... What are you talking about... The Attack Titan's power IS being able to get memories from the future... The other titans can't do that...
@@blondymonk1535 You're right, that is the Attack Titan's ability. They receive memories from the future, in order to guide them in creating that future. But the Attack Titan does not have the power to send memories back in time. That is the power of the Founding Titan, through paths. Without the Founding Titan sending memories, the Attack Titan would essentially have no ability, because they would never receive memories. So in effect, Eren fulfilled his role as inheritor of the Attack Titan by getting himself into Paths with Zeke. By doing this, he was able to send memories back through time to all previous wielders of the Attack Titan. If he never made it into Paths, with the Founder and the Attack Titan, he would never have had that opportunity. Kruger and Grisha and the rest would never receive the memories, and Eren wouldn't have even been born. Eren's existence has been a bootstrap paradox over 2000 years, he sends memories from the future in order to guarantee the Attack Titan and Founding Titan make their way to him through Grisha, so that he can send the memories from the future.
This episode showed us that Eren was a slave of himself, that bright, enthusiastic and noble Eren was a slave to future Eren, and his work was to become future Eren, enslaving himself by consequence.
I might be the only person that just feels so hurt for eren particularly at 9:40 when he’s staring at young mikasa and her two words faintly echo.. i will be crying on the finale for sure
Just realized that at this moment, Grisha has already witnessed the Rumbling from Eren's memories, meaning he must have known that in the future Zeke will be under Eren's control, for Eren to make use of the founding titan. Therefore, when Grisha says "Zeken, please stop Eren," Grisha also knows that Zeke can't possibly fight back Eren by literally fighting Eren. The only way for Zeke to stop Eren, then, is for Zeke to kill himself, or make himself easy to kill. In other words, Grisha is asking Zeke to kill himself (although given that Zeke doesn't know yet. But Grisha definitely knows). Knowing this, how much of Grisha's apology to Zeke is real and heart-felt, and how much of it is emtional manipuation so that Zeke would comply with killing himself and giving up on the euthanization plan? Chilling.
A plot twist no one saw coming truly amazing u just couldn't guess it until the very last moment that it was all erens doing no one could comprehend the thought it was future eren manipulating the whole time
The reason Eren influenced Grisha from the future and betrayed Zeke, is because he is the heir to the Attack Titan himself, where the specialty of Attack Titan is that he never obeys anyone, and always seeks freedom. Remember Eren once said that he would rather take other people's freedom than have his freedom taken away
I like fact that nobody peeped baby Eren looking at Eren and Zeke while Grisha was hugging him. The anime literally makes a perfect cut to his face and then them but still somehow nobody noticed it 😂

The fact that Grisha was talking to both Eren Kruger and Eren Jeager at the same time while saying i killed the family Eren, thats what you wanted, it jus describes the level of writing skills Isayama has,, god i miss this anime
I have the same thoughts as those two wearing Scouting Legion emblem. The Attack Titan's ability to see the future is not its own inherent / original ability. The inheritors of Attack Titan can see the future because Eren's sending memories to the past, using the Founding Titan's ability, the Paths Coordinate (which is to manipulate the Subjects of Ymir, regardless of time and space). Quite literally, the Attack Titan's inherent ability is to seek freedom, to move forward, to never bow to anyone. The Attack Titan's original ability is to never be subjected to the Founding Titan's manipulation. Using this ability, Eren is able to overtake the Paths Coordinate from Zeke, and with Zeke's royal blood, Eren gained complete control of the Paths Coordinate and 'free' Ymir.
Thank you! Someone who fucking gets it. “Ooh genocide is bad!” Yeah no shit. But look at what all happened which pushed him to see it as the only way for his friends, family, and the person he loves to become and remain safe. If the rest of the world is content with being able to survive by just brutalizing and demonizing one race of people as a sacrifice for peace, then they don’t deserve to survive.
The thing What Eren did was, (for those who didn't understand it) he possess Attack Titan (to view future memories) and Founding Titan abilities (to manipulate anyone, not just any Titan). He manipulated his dad by sharing his memories with him and every time Eren sees Zeke, his perspective is being shared with his dad and that's how he was able to see Zeke. During the first scene in Episode 1 S1, Grisha Yeager promises Eren that he will share something from his basement when he returns. So basically, they didn't fully show that scene, a tiny bit. Here, we can see the part where his expression is in shock. The same principle is applied here by Eren. He was manipulating by sharing his perspective of seeing his dad with him, in which Grisha was confused because he saw himself, like in front of the mirror. Grisha said "why don't you share everything, Eren? " Along with "Zeke, stop Eren". Eren inherits the ability of Attack Titan which he can view his memories that dad viewed. In fact, his dad knew Eren's future as well, because he will be the last descendent to inhabit Attack Titan, amongst passing the Titan generation. His dad asked Eren because he only saw a few bits of his future and his result with his Attack Titan but wasn't sure what will happen during the mid. So he was concerned about Eren and asked Zeke to stop it. If I missed out any points, please feel free to add them. If I mistakenly elaborated it, I'm sorry to do so. 😅🤍👍🏻
Same reaction. I remember the day I watched it, I was like WTF ? It then took me 2 days to connect the dots and hell do I know Isayama planplout everything 13 years ago.
Eren didnt manage to change the past the time he kiss historia hand yet he saw what happened that moment that his father will never kill the children , on the second time when he and zeke connects thats the time eren manipulates the past to get the future that he wants thru the path. damn very complex
Just remember, the protagonist can be evil or good, but eren is not evil or good, and it's impossible to him, the main character to be an antagonist because he is the protagonist and this role has the job to opposite the protagonist, he is evil for some people and good for others, in this show no one is one or another because almost everyone killed someone at one point, what we are seeing here are just people trying to survive in their world and eren trying his best to save the people he cares about

Although Grisha "touched" a royal blood Titan user, it was through a memory. So it doesn't count as Grisha gaining access to the Founding powers. That being said, it would've been sick if Eren stopped Grisha from hugging him and commanded him to go feed himself to him as a child.

U are 10 days past 80 my guy
The reactors on the right are one of my favorites. They are pretty quick to analyze what is going on and figured out how this is all possible. They also take the time to think about things while reacting in the moment. LIke the guy in the purple shirt saying "Eren saw Grisha getting gassed up by Eren" Or something like that, like damn that was fast to figure out. Looking forward to how they react to last few volumes of the manga because shit starts getting even more weird until the end.
Their channel is yaboyroshi and they’re still reacting to the episodes now. The purple shirt guy is my favourite cos he’s funny but the woman on the left is my second cos she literally predicts everything without reading the manga.
Was thinking this the entire watch, dude in purple predicting the near future
Or maybe they just read the manga😂
Top left are good too. Lm reactions. They analyze things well but are also very emotional 😂 its fun to watch them lol
Fav? They were more talking than watching. Was really annoying. Best one was at right top. Calmly watching and giving the best reactions.
Trust me, i have seen many movies, series and tv dramas but this twist is different and i literally went crazy after seeing this. AOT really set the ceiling high in terms of writing style, simply amazing.

If you think about it, it’s especially fucked up since eren didn’t even give grisha the solace of knowing whether or not Carla died, because it didn’t suit his needs at the time. Which is another point in the “pure evil” category
How is it pure evil?
Grisha knew Carla died when he met Eren to give him his titan
@@gheddafiduck8239 if you what the episode where eren first gets injected he says “you haven’t been acting the same since mom died” either there or when he first meets kid eren post church he finds out Carla is dead, eren never shows him the memory.
@@AM-qw8zd he’s not letting his own father know whether or not his wife is dead, and only sees him as a vessel to store his memories for when he kisses historia’s hand
@@jackofastora8962 yes that’s what I meant I wasn’t talking about the memories
When eren told zeke he saw trought his dad's memory and was disgusted of him this man was talking of the "future eren" savage.
I think that eren really meant grisha, from my understanding eren despised grisha because he saw that he couldn't kill the children and so put it on eren's shoulders instead, saving his conscious and putting that weight on eren.
no he was disgusted cause Grisha doesnt want to go through the plan of killing the family
@@leubzo1436 no, eren saw grisha banging his mother
He's disgusted that he couldn't kill the kids for freedom of eldiana
Bro in the top is on point, the Attack Titan doesn't really have the ability to see the future, they all just happened to have memories sent to them by Eren because he had both Attack and Founder. This is also ironic because it means they aren't free. They are guided by Eren's memories. Eren is what makes the Attack Titan the titan for freedom, and he's the reason it "has" that ability.
Initially I thought the Attack titan was somehow hiding this from the Founder but this blew my mind. Eren gaslighting them all to believe it's an Attack titan ability instead of his own manipulation was funny af tho
Coming back and watching these reactions.. wow i don’t think i’ll ever watch anything better than aot.. this show was really something else ~
the scene where Grisha is flailing around screaming and pleading after kill them is chilling. Incase folks are watching this is how you use jump cuts and missing frames. Most tv (and movies) does it wrong but this is how you do it. To make the audience feel the sense of panic and anxiety and loss of control people felt in that moment.
Quit the pretentious aot meatriding
So the biggest plot twist is that when the Attack Titan was described as "fighting for freedom", it was never itself fighting for freedom. It was manipulated by Eren from the future for 2000 years, to fight for that particular future, where Eren would gain the Attack and Founding Titans for himself.
Yup. Also, it should be called The Time Titan or something. The Term attack yitan probably came from its last use. It was a titan used to attack humanity. Hence, even the name is linked to Eren and Eren only.
That's a pretty cool way to think about it. @@abhabh6896
@@abhabh6896it's probably called attack titan to "attack" the king's self righteousness as stated by grisha. Or probably because the people who inherits attack titan doesn't bow down to anyone (which is probably the result of eren manipulating every attack titan inheritors)
This episode was crazy.
One of the greatest episodes of all time, with easily one of the greatest plot twists in TV
The split second young Eren being shown at the end was the moment Eren kissed historias hand, connected to these memories at the same time.
@@HeyLoiss that's his victory, his goal so yeah he won
Yeah Eren has been manipulating the Attack Titan for 2000 years, in order to create that future where Eren gains both the Attack and Founding Titans.
He didn't win tho
@@WARRIOR-uf8ov In a way he didn't. He accomplished every goal he had, but one: no matter what, he couldn't fight his fate
Bruh you could literally hear the “I fucked up BAD” in Grishas voice. Amazing voice acting!
This episode right here is the greatest episode in history. This is the peak. Eren being the mastermind behind everything that happened even before he was born was just beyond anything I could ever imagine.
Zeke: Eren, you are locked here until I finish my plan.
Eren: No, I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me!
Eren: Thanks I'll make my self at home
@@chiffon788 I still can't wrap my head around that, its truly amazing
This episode showed us that Eren was a slave of himself, that bright, enthusiastic and noble Eren was a slave to future Eren, and his work was to become future Eren, enslaving himself by consequence.
ladies and gentlemen, this is peak fiction.
GOD tier episode
I love the collective groans of complaints when it ended as a cliffhanger lmao
I might be the only person that just feels so hurt for eren particularly at 9:40 when he’s staring at young mikasa and her two words faintly echo.. i will be crying on the finale for sure
And the look of complete despair on his face after he’s convinced grisha fulfilling his memory. Pain
@@quitthinkin I mean Grisha didn't finish the memory, Eren did.
Chilling.
17:14 The amount of "whats" that was said lmao
There is no other movie or series that can beat this Anime.
A plot twist no one saw coming truly amazing u just couldn't guess it until the very last moment that it was all erens doing no one could comprehend the thought it was future eren manipulating the whole time
Can we all just agree that AOT 4x20 was the most cracked ep of all time?
Grishas voice acting…. AMAZING
Is in the video...
The only free attack titan is eren, no one else because he manipulated all the attack titans before him so he can get the founding
Can't wait for the rumbling

This is the best EP of all anime
Filmbuff said that too
The thing i enjoy about this is when Grisha is explaining how he can glimpse time basically. all three of the boys are in the same scene, they are standing in a row. Kind of like a Timeline. Zeke is the past, Grisha is the present, and Eren the Future. Or perhaps. Eren is the past, Grisha the present, and Zeke the future.
Eren is the protagonist! And he is the antagonist! Thats the freedom he got

it's incredible, this plot twist came out many years ago but everytime i see it I always come away shocked
AOT BEST ANIME OF ALL TIME.
Biggest Gaslighting in Anime History
People who understand Doctor Strange's "there was no other way"
And can't understand Eren
Are fucking hypocrites
Strange didn't commit unnecesary genocide because he didn't get laid
Fax

When everyone realized EREN is the protagonist not for only name! He is the creator of aot twists and plots💀🔥🔥
Eren didnt manage to change the past the time he kiss historia hand yet he saw what happened that moment that his father will never kill the children , on the second time when he and zeke connects thats the time eren manipulates the past to get the future that he wants thru the path. damn very complex
17:25 Brown jacket in the top was stressed 😂😂😂
Just remember, the protagonist can be evil or good, but eren is not evil or good, and it's impossible to him, the main character to be an antagonist because he is the protagonist and this role has the job to opposite the protagonist, he is evil for some people and good for others, in this show no one is one or another because almost everyone killed someone at one point, what we are seeing here are just people trying to survive in their world and eren trying his best to save the people he cares about
This is the power of foreshadowing truly amazing

Although Grisha "touched" a royal blood Titan user, it was through a memory. So it doesn't count as Grisha gaining access to the Founding powers.
That being said, it would've been sick if Eren stopped Grisha from hugging him and commanded him to go feed himself to him as a child.
