My uncle moved to Chicago after he got out of the army back in the late 60s. He was a big guy, not as big as Dick Butkus, but he kind of looked like him. He said he'd get stopped by Bears fans all the time who thought he was Butkus, and he signed a few autographs. When Butkus passed it made me think there's probably a few poor fans telling about the time they met the man and got his autograph, but is was just my uncle.
Butkus gave EVERYTHING He had on EVERY Snap of His Career. I can think of No Other Player to do that in the NFL. Greatest MLBer in NFL History. NFL Network's Top 100 Players of All Time voted Butkus #10.
When used to watch Bears game most of the time the offense was not that good and I only wanted to watch when the Bears were on defense. I believe it was when Bobby Douglas who could throw the ball 60 yards shoulder high, end over end but no one could catch it. Butkus's interception the one time going down the sidelines and refusing to go out of bounds was epic.
The story had it that if both Butkus and Sayers were injured the same ways today,, they probably would have been "fixed" to be able to continue playing.
Also had a pretty good candy bar named after him . The Super Crunch ! If you heard the name Butkus or saw the #51 there were only two things you thought of , One was the Bears the other was the Greatest MLB ever !

Truly an epic Bear. Someone has to live up to that legacy! C'mon Bears!
I cried like a kid when Butkus passed. Himthe Kansas comet piccolo Atkins Buffone were my first bear hero’s
There were so many great Bears. Let's hope this bunch can live up to the heritage.
Thanks
You are welcome
I think butkus and jim brown are greatest pure football players ever, patriot fan. Dick only had 5 or 6 healthy years too, sayers 4. All time greats
For sure! When men were men!

Yeah, great offense was so rare that Willy Gault defends the "85 Bears offense that was ranked #2 in the NFL and often overlooked!

Sports science has come a long way, I would bet on Sayers and Butkus paying much longer.
Thank you for wearing 51......Dick taught Singletary....Wow what a defense
We've had the best linebackers!!
The Exciting snaps the call hut hut , But the Running Backs Eyes wide looking for the incoming truck tail tucked . IT Must be Butkus making a ruckus
Also had a pretty good candy bar named after him . The Super Crunch !

Truth
The players today couldn’t handle a hit from Butkus, and would be out forever.
The eve of his passing? Really?
No disrespect meant, friend.
THEY AT a time tame a Bear BUT times Changed As The big Baer Did Hemet's rearrange Plus Crush Tame the field With a None yield Pound To stay sound
Nice poetry
