Great job. Had the same problem with mine and, yup, gunk between the contacts. Thanks for posting, I was confident enough taking the back off but wasn't sure if unscrewing the circuit board would be reversible, so your video was definitely helpful!
On the other hand, I'm disheartened about how few views this has. I didn't think I was that clumsy about weighing things!

Yes, he used isopropyl alcohol.
Mostly rubbish. My scales had exactly the same symptoms and by the time I had dismantled them it was obvious that the problem was that the contact under the on-zero button was worn not dirty and the scales were a write off. This should have been obvious to him, especially as the scales were NOT working properly after the so called repair, as was clear from the end of the video when a load of scrambled readings were shown. At least it showed you how to dismantle the scales.
Sorry to hear that cleaning of the contacts didn't work for you. The reason the display looked scrambled is because if the scales think the weight is lighter than when it is switched on, this is the message it gives. The fact it switched on at all was the fix.
If your rubber contact button is worn to the point it isn't making contact after cleaning with IPA, then a layer of conductive paint could be the solution (slowly layering the paint up until it makes contact when pressed, but not so much it makes constant contact), or instead of conductive paint, gluing snall layers of tin foil might also do the job.
