I like petrol more so I took the 540i and I'm very happy with it. Still, I'd like to try the 540d (or 530d) to feel the difference. I drove a 520d G30 for a week but that is not the same performance level.
One of the main advantages of Diesel to it's sister cars was is efficiency. It offered way less emissions and almost for the same performance, and was (still is) significantly less expensive. to maintain.
@@fohatadri from factory the stats say the 540d can manage 4.9 compared to the 540i at 5.2. However the B58 in the petrol can be known for performing quicker times than BMW claim

diesel will forever dominate the world, really is the best fuel since it can run off pretty much anything. We will always have some replacement that acts as regular diesel but is 100% bio, like hvo100. However I like real diesel most. Sad diesel gets so much hate. They may pollute more but the engines last much longer.
The only thing diesel has to offer is torque. And you CAN'T run it on anything. This is not the 80's you will fck up the car if you start pouring old oil or even crappy diesel in.

Now imagine that power and torque in a 3series. The F30 330d is light-ish , rwd and 8spd ZF gear box and is the perfect daily and sports car yet so overlooked . But this car is like the grown up version of mine when I really think about it😂
@@Michu2108 There is a M3 Competition Touring. It's just shy of 375 kW (510 PS) with 650 Nm.😮But I don't like one big part of its exterior and the large, curved single display so I went with the 540i Touring.
It's the perfect car - looking good from the outside, still a lot of buttons in the interior, no big ugly touchscreen like in the new 5 or 3 series and a Touring, so a lot of space. If I had the money, I'd order this model before it is replaced by the new 5 series and drive it until it falls apart.
I drive a G31 520d xdrive built in 2019 and consume around 6-6.5 liters/100km in a combination of city and country with a moderate driving style. If you drive the 540d quite quickly, a consumption of 7 liters is not possible. You can do that if you drive lamely through town and country. For the horsepower and twin turbo and higher boost pressure than the 530d, I find consumption between 7.5-9 liters acceptable. The BMW 5 Touring LCI is currently one of the most beautiful station wagons in the world. Mercedes had this trophy years before with the CLS Shooting Brake;-)
Best engine in this Car. I love 550i bit for everyday usage it's simply consume to much and it's quite annoying with so frequent visits on Petrol stations. As for 540i is also great but for most daily situations 540d is simply faster, of course by numbers 540i is better but numbers are one thing and love second 😉
@@Missacek in city 25ltrs/100kilometers outside city was able to drop down even to 10ltrs but more realistic is 12-14. Great car, great engine but refilling tank every 250km was very annoying.
540i gives me 15L/100km city on sports mode and 8L/100km highway on sports mode. I usually drive in sports mode. Eco mode might be better l/100km but I can't be bothered to find out.
@@DaNiel-yy8bd possibly, but EcoMode is too subtle. The suspension is less dampened, car is too quiet, steering is just too light, engine is less responsive. I fell asleep driving EcoMode on the highway once so now it's sports or sport plus on long journeys. The compromise on fuel is minimal compared to the joy of driving it.
I've had four tourings: e46 320d in 2005, e91 320d in 2008, f11 in 2013 and G31 530xd from 2018. Next, it's going to be sedan vecause of the better dynamics, weight and ... I don't need the extra space anymore. Probably a M340d
I also like diesel engines especially on longer trips and normal cruise driving over country. I now have a Stinger 3.3 V6 which is great fun but when normal driving over long distances I still miss the low rpm high torque and max range of Mondeo MK4 2.2 TDCI engine which is insane because on paper Stinger has more torque. In reality this V6 engine starts to live (full torque) over 2400 rpm which is fine when you want some fun but not when cruising. Maybe petrol V8 with huge power/torgue would be like a diesel to me but it's much more expensive and in case of BMW not available as G31, only sedan. I'm thinking of getting 540D G31 in future because of this and bigger trunk :)

Cruising around 180 km/h consumes realistically around 9 l/100/km with my G31 530d. I used to bomb Prague-Munich on a weekly basis. With covid the consulting industry changed to remote work only and now the car is in the mercy of mother nature used basically only for vacations 😭 Great car though.
I have a g31 540d not as SW i dont know about 0-100 it feels so fast that i dont care so much but i dont have 7lit per 100 km in general . I am more like to 9lit per 100 and rarely use the sport mode and i have done more than 12k of km on it and its prety much on 9 per 100 on every day use with litle bit of a push !

Why would ANYONE hate a disel car, you literally get a fast car and low fuel consumption. Why on earth would anyone hate that. Bensin variants are consuming way more fuel to generate the same or lower performance.
I think that the pleasure of driving the G30 is a step back compared to the F10. As you said, with the G30, everything happens very smoothly, which is atypical for BMW. While the handling of the F10 is the same as that of a typical BMW.
Agreed.the g30s chassis was considerably updated on the older model for far better handling.match that with adaptive suspension and the f10 hasn't a patch on it

I feel like the F series BMWs with their N code engines really put off diesel fans off BMW these engines were trash breaking down all the time and requiring full rebuild of used engine for 3000 eur plus labor swapping it
Your 10yr old Audi might do the same economy but not in the same ambience as a new BMW. I have a diesel that does better economy but it vibrates and is much louder. The BMW does it stylishly for a bigger, heavier and comfortable car

The fuel economy isn't the same. m40d has better fuel economy than m40i. It's the reason some of my peers went for the diesel rather than the petrol m40i as I did

Sir, is possible. I have a pre Lci model, on german highway spends 7.7l. Can do 1000km by 1 tank and u can push it 200+.

540i gives me
15L/100km city on sports mode and 8L/100km highway on sports mode. I usually drive in sports mode.
Eco mode might be better l/100km but I can't be bothered to find out.
@@junajuna7108Comfort mode is a good compromise, for ours (lci) you get 9-10 L/100km which is fine, in sport + its more like 13 , 14 or 15 L/100km

try using the paddle shifters to shift before the redline while doing 0-60 diesels don’t have that much power at the top end of the rev limiter

You can drive this car @ 6-7l/100km if you cruise along with cruise control @ 120-130 kph.
If you push it it‘s north of 10l.

It was never available in the UK much to my annoyance.
There'll come a tipping point when there's not enough ICE cars on the road to sustain a network of fuel stations. The ICE engine will then die out.

I was thinking the same, even when he went for top speed my 335d seems a bit more aggressive with the acceleration and I have done a 4.8 0-100kph .
