What's crazy is the one they chose to send out was asymmetrical so does that mean, like Nick says, it's the best QC one they had or whoever sent it didn't know to look for that. Either way, it never should have left like that especially for almost double an UTX.
Been wanting to get a heretic manticore E, but really like the look of this. Any thoughts since you've reviewed both? Right now leaning towards Heretic!
@@metal_complex Honestly, I'd say after handling as many different knives from as many different brands as you have, you probably have developed at least some level of expertise. Keep up the awesome reviews!
@@metal_complex I just found one of these when I was walking in the woods, the clip is broken and it's missing a pin but it has no rust and still quite sharp
MC crushing my dark horse knife 😂 I think this is still a sweet knife, but for $400 you would definitely want to handle it in person first to make sure everything was done right.
Mine has good blade grinds. I would be pissed if it wasn't too. You would think they would send a reviewer a top notch knife. Glad I got mine for $275 from a dude that just bought it a month and 4 days earlier for 399 plus tax. It is still a new knife. Not a blemish on it. The price was what was stopping me from buying one new. Glad I had a deal fall in my lap.
Ahhhh man that center line kills the entire knife! I had a Guardian Tactical with off center lines, and $200+ should be dam near perfect, or atleast visible perfect.
This guy does look pretty cool maybe if it was single edged, and a little cheaper. But I'm in a state where daggers, and autos are illegal to carry, and for EDC I don't really like double edged, I put my thumb on the back of the blade too much. It would be a recipe for stitches.
I have a benchmade infidel that I sometimes daily carry.i mean I usually don’t carry it 24/7 but if I. Going out at night to a bar or s9 thing like that where I can’t have a firearm on me, I’ll carry my infidel. It’s a pretty expensive knife but I actually got mine gave to me as a gift from s9 done I use to work withwitc( is pretty cool.
I never had a Otf but I really want one. And this one would be my favorite (just by the look). But in my country it's really hard to get one (they are legal here), especially for a reasonable price. Over €500,- is way out of my budget. And I'm definitely not the only one.
This OTF in particular I recommend not taking apart! The Autocrat is assembled in 3 separate layers, & after removing the screws it falls apart VERY easily. Worst of all, the small metal gates that trap the blade in & out, along with the tiny springs that sit against them, can fall out fast & are easily lost. I lost a spring when I took mine apart & it flew god knows where across the room, never to be seen again. I was lucky enough to have a broken cheap OTF from which I could transplant one of those tiny springs. Without those itsy bitsy springs, the knife cannot lock in the open or closed position. It's functional murder without them. I don't recommend opening this knife unless absolutely necessary, & if you must, don't actually remove the scales unless you're holding the entire knife inside a plastic bag. Seriously. 😃
Autocrat is my first OTF. Love it for what it is. I found that deployment can be stalled by simply shaking the knife during the deployment. Not sure if other OTFs do that.
The autocrat fires so much harder then the infidel. My infidel ended up getting so weak after years of heavy use and carrying.. the blue anodizing is wearing on the screws and that makes me sad but it’s def a heavy hitter haven’t had on fail yet. G10 feels great but damn my hands feel like they will slide out onto the blade so the infidel wins in that regard ••• My blade is centered on the front side but not the back , same as the one in this review. Hope that’s not the norm
Hey, MC, thank you. I have been on the fence with this. I know you’re just being totally honest. I believe in Benchmade, have four, but after playing with my two Guardian Tactical’s and Microtech Ultratech this is just too much cash. Benchmade, price them down and they will come. Trust me, in this case you want quantity over quality. The quality is just not there and you’re going to need quantity to make some more cash. Price them down and I’ll buy. I imagine Metal Complex feels the same.
I get it! Benchmade's attempt to keep innovation in mind with the G-10 OTF handles which makes it light as hell is great if you prefer composite over alluminum. I dig the flat grind on the backside because it makes sharpening a breeze while extending blade life. But Benchmades are made for rich guys who could care less about price. So if you can't afford it buy something cheaper.
As far as the legal ramifications I don't think that's necessarily true As long as your a collector and keep it in your house you should be fine as long as the site you order from will ship to your state IMO As usual great vid thank you so much
Question to anyone who can answer. I understand that this is an automatic knife correct me if I'm wrong. It's not considered a "switchblade" I've been looking to purchase one of these would it be illegal in California??
Yes, this is definitely a switchblade. As far as I know, it's not legal in CA at this length. I believe the law in CA for autos is under 2" on the blade. So this one is way over the line.
MC I luv the channel luv the way you present and I feel not relatable with you then some other channel presenters out there so thanks for that , but can you please clean that Rat 1 its driving me crazy .
Did I miss it, or did you not discuss that only one side of the blade has been sharpened? Not the top & bottom of the same side, but the actual OTHER side of the blade. I can’t believe Benchmade did ANY blade like this!! ;-}. MM
Few will disagree. It is just too expensive, even more expensive outside CONUS where some stores have em close to $500. I love Benchmade too but even if they were similarly priced, I wouldn't replace my M390 Ultratech with this.
@@metal_complex For the sake of to your mental well-being I will admit that I don't actually have any Chinese clones, as fun of a meme as it is. I actually don't have any OTFs, because of my equal reluctance to commit the kind of money required for a decent one to a knife I can't carry at the moment and my distaste for Chinesium
These are the best edc daggers by a long shot... the people that actually are capable of utilizing these appreciate this design over other otf because of many things and it's probably the quietest otf. It's centered and good for throwing. The trapdoors are heavier and bigger than any other otf being made so it will not fail where others may in the stab and also the blade play is positive where all others are negative and give in the draw cut position where this ones would give when you push from the topside as opposed to the bottom.
Benchmade overall needs to STOP making otf’s. They have shown over and over that they SUCK making these types of tools. Their excellent warranty shouldn’t justify making crappy otf’s.
This knife was horribly disappointing. Chisel grind on the blade and its has no texture fore grip. It is neither an EDC or tactical. It is not worth the $400. The chisel grind was part of their budget line of otf, sad to see it on what's considered their premium otf.

Love some of these BM OTFs... for the price they needed to up the steel grades (D2 & S30V) come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn BM.Don't be greedy

That's one of the best looking OTF's out there, I like the G10.
Truly...
For me this knife is much more tolerable than the infidel
Thanks for the review Mr self proclaimed knife expert!! 👍🏼
Is that sarcastic? I'm just a knife reviewer. I have never referred to myself as an expert. Anyone can do what I do.

I agree 100% and this should have been Benchmade's best example.
Is the 3400bk autocrat and the 3400 autocrat different?

I agree with all of your criticisms on this video. Great job, & thanks for always being honest! 😃
I just ordered one. Dammit. Lol. Any improvements in the newer ones?

FrankieJ dwm_edc agreed, pretty much all of the cuts I do are draw cuts or cuts in a saber grip.

Where u live?
Benchmade OTF vs microtech OTF = your favorite ???
Microtech by a long shot
@@metal_complex thank
Benchmade employee:
"I've messed this one up.."
Supervisor:
"It's all good, we can just send it to the TH-cam pass around group!"
Nacho Cheese33 I mean, that would be better than them selling it.

Many otfs do this...stupid safety features engaging when you shake and trigger at the same time...super lame.

Is it worth buying??
... no. I said that at the end of the review lol.
30V is a Superior Metal in comparison to N390.. and a Lighter metal to go along with the G10 handles. This Knife is meant as a lighter EDC option.
I meant you are relatable I wrote “ not “ by mistake sorry
Love it!! I know u don’t like been negative but I really enjoyed it

Actually, the micro bevel on the opposite side is so that it stays sharp longer, I didn’t believe it either until I tested it
Sharper*
$240 on sale at Knives Ship Free right now
Probably a bogus knife. Would trust it to be legit at all. These knives just never go for that cheap.
@@landonjones676 No its not bogus. Knives Ship Free doesn't sell fake knives. Besides it was discontinued and it was Black Friday.
+1 to this. Knives Ship Free is legit. Well known in the knife community
I just ordered mine today on a knee jerk reaction..... now I’m weary...... damnit I should have researched more.
How did it turn out?
I just got an infidel special edition and the play is barely audible same as my Combat Troodon but u r right about the sluggish action

I got one brand new off my local classifieds for $250. I love it.
I was supposed to get the give way and didnt.... hq
So that one is from Benchmade? With that grind goof? THAT is possibly the best quality control one of those ever as Nick Shabazz would say? Yikes!

I meant relatable not “ not relatable “ sorry my grammar sucks
Glad this one doesn't have blade nutz.
Compare Otf with Otf!
So. Bottom line. Is it worth the money? If I get more yes than no, I’ll buy one and review on my channel.
I dont think do.
I’d be pissed if I paid that much for an imperfect knife.
I know for a fact that imperfection he complained about would make the tip stronger.
At $399 I’d get a Microtech and have change for lunch. But that’s just me.
Your magnet was sticking to the area that the screws went through
The price tag doesn't make sense to me. I'd rather get a recon 035/040 or an ultratech.
Did I miss it, or did you not discuss that only one side of the blade has been sharpened? Not the top & bottom of the same side, but the actual OTHER side of the blade. I can’t believe Benchmade did ANY blade like this!! ;-}. MM

Sad to hear because it is such an attractive knife. But yeah just not worth 400 to me...
13:02 lolololol the very reason I STILL don’t own an infidel #BAWLS
