    I love this method! I've been mostly spray basting for a little while but using the ruler and ironing after is a game changer. Thanks, Christa!

      Will definitely try ironing after spray basting. Didn’t know it was a thing to do.

    Dear Christa
    I started quilting 5 years ago, and in the begining I gluebasted, but it always crinkled up on me, so I have used pins for years. Until I resently saw this film.
    I had 2 quilts lying I had to baste and quilt, and gave your method a try. Now I am never going back to pins!!
    By the way. I just iron the quilts on the folding table after gluing. No problem with the heat on the table, even when I use high heat, the plastic does not even get warm.
    Thank you
    Inge, Odense, Denmark

    I have never pinned again after I tried spray batting. But I had no idea I could iron it!! I'll do that with my next quilt. Thank you!

      It really makes a difference: you can squish all the layers together, get out all the wrinkles and set the glue with the heat.

    The design wall and ruler smoothing method worked fabulously! So much better than crawling around on the floor, which is the way I have spray basted all my quilts, until this last one. My quilt sandwiches have never been this smooth. Thank you so much for the tutorial!

      It could also be the basting spray. I've only had good results with the 505 brand.

    I tried it and it worked great! A few things I would pay more attention to next time are really working to get the batting smoothed over the backing so it's nice and flat, and not bearing down with the iron too much. I had to stick my arm under the backing while ironing to get the wrinkles out. Thanks for the tutorial!

    I just got a design wall based on your TH-cam. It is amazing! I love it so much. One question with this basting process: when you put your backing on the wall after spraying outside, I see that you are smoothing it out with a large ruler. Not sure how that works with the sticky part facing out. ??

    • @ChristaQuilts
      @ChristaQuilts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you enjoyed this! The ruler works great. It gets a little of the stickiness on it, so I use a separate ruler just for basting and clean it with warm soapy water whenever it gets too sticky.

    I always thought that the quilt police told us not to iron a quilt! Does it make it noticeably flatter? Thanks

    • @ChristaQuilts
      @ChristaQuilts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm on the run from the quilt police because they don't like a lot of the things I teach, LOL!! Ironing helps set the glue so everything sticks together. But be sure to practice on a small test piece, first!
