Really cool tips, I hadn't thought about deleting the parts when not playing. And oh my, it never crossed my mind about why there's so much hum, I was overcompensating with noise reduction but simply moving away makes it so much cleaner. Thanks!

One very simple way to reduce noise is to have a guitar with humbuckers when recording heavy guitar. Preferably EMGs for minimum noise floor.
