Watch me track Heavy Metal guitars in Logic Pro using amp sims. Here I double track electric guitars and show you my process for getting tight recordings. Instructions included to get a free Waves plugin while supplies last for Black Friday. If you're not happy with your guitar tone, it could be that your tracks aren't tight enough. It could also be your choice of impulse response. Let's fix th...

It looks like they intentionally took turns pouncing on each other, which brings "Okay this time I get to be the superhero and you're the big bad guy!" energy.
I love that! It does look like they're playing that game. Love it.

“If it sounds good, it’s good man” I think all guitarists tend to over analyze every transient 🤧. Needed this lol
@TC_Ty_Thurmond it's true, man. Thanks for the comment.
One very simple way to reduce noise is to have a guitar with humbuckers when recording heavy guitar. Preferably EMGs for minimum noise floor.
So true. One day I'll have those kinda pickups.
Really cool tips, I hadn't thought about deleting the parts when not playing. And oh my, it never crossed my mind about why there's so much hum, I was overcompensating with noise reduction but simply moving away makes it so much cleaner. Thanks!
@@Rheivax Thanks for commenting. I'm so glad to hear you got some value out of this video! I know the struggle with noise and using noise reduction/removal to mitigate that. It helps a ton to just step back.
Waves emails the shit out of you just for one plugin and you get an email a couple times a day. No thanks
Good boy.

Nice! Never actually tried different takes like that for guitar. Usually just vocal. Gonna try this!
@robloyst4514 thanks for the comment! Yes, I thought it worked very well. You could always use a fresh track and just keep going without the cycle range, too. Then play through each bit and drag the good sections into place.

Haha so cute 😊❤
I think I'm gonna make another video today showing a before and after comparison.
Nice vid, bud! Just a hint: with such a separated notes in the riff you can also save some time by just switching the whole take into Flex mode and then quantize the wave (yeah, as easy as with the MIDI!), so Logic will help your riff to stick with the beat when you missed it a bit
@@egorsazanovich that's one way to do it for sure! Thanks for watching.
I'm curious what happens to all of the unused media after you flatten it. Does it stay in the project bloating it up or does it get auto trashed?
Great question. I'll have to make a video on project cleanup. It looks like the takes are still saved in the Project Browser which can be found on the top right or by pressing F. When I'm all done with all tracking and editing, I press F, then Shift U (Select Unused), then delete. Then, I go to Project Management > Cleanup. A pop-up will show you everything you aren't using, like old takes and merges and whatnot, and they will be deleted when you select OK.
@@greghillmusic Ah good to know. Thanks for the reply and great video by the way.
@JasonPreziosi I really appreciate that! Glad to help. Thanks for watching.
@@JasonPreziosi new video premiering Monday at 4AM that demonstrates how to do this.

Nice! Love me a heavy riff in 5/4! Nice explanation, I record my guitars by section as well now. As you said, it really makes editing so much easier.
@petealba707 this is a jam my buddy @MikeDavisMusic and I are collaborating on. He came up with this particular riff idea. Yeah I used to do a whole riff idea at a time, but it's so much more work to edit it later that way. Thanks for the comment!

Haha I remember this lecture. I get what he’s trying to say when he says we don’t hear in stereo but “perceive” in stereo… meaning your ears are two separate (mono) receivers and then your brain puts the sources together to create (in his words, the “illusion”) of stereo. However we don’t really have a choice what our brains do with the information it receives so unless we’re completely deaf in one ear, we do hear in stereo. I asked my personal assistant (Chat GPT) this question and this is its response… Humans hear in stereo because we have two ears, each positioned on opposite sides of our head. This allows us to perceive sounds in three-dimensional space and pinpoint where they’re coming from. The brain processes the slight differences in timing, volume, and frequency between the sounds each ear receives to create a sense of direction and distance, known as “binaural hearing.” This stereo effect helps us distinguish the spatial position of sounds in our environment, which is especially useful for locating sounds in complex surroundings. In contrast, mono hearing would mean hearing sound from a single source with no spatial dimension, where everything sounds like it’s coming from the same point.
@wildlikewolvesofficial3895 that's what I found with my research, too! Thanks for commenting!
@@greghillmusic It’s kind of like our brain is the master bus in our DAW. It’s received sound from mono Left and Right sources but the bus itself is stereo.
@wildlikewolvesofficial3895 yeah pretty much. And when those two mono signals are identical, we hear a mono signal. I really wish he didn't rant about that :p
@@greghillmusic Yea he was pretty much making a statement about semantics more than anything lol
