Seriously though, what is going on in Australia? The vast majority of my favorites over the past couple years all come from that country and every day I'm introduced to more and more great musicians from oz
As I understanding it (but don't ask me for details!), the Australian government supports musicians, and as a result more musicians are inclined to actually give it a go. Turns out that lets a lot of great musicians make enough of a living to keep at it and be heard. Repeat after me, rest of the world: Support the Arts!
@@josephmcfadden6513 Seriously though! Julia Jacklin and Aldous Harding have been some of my heaviest listening this year. Aldous's subliminal advertising for unique wide-brim hats has got me really considering too...
This is an artist that reminds you to rise up. To be your authentic self, to start writing again, to turn your pain into flowers, that songs can be stories, ballads of the heart. Fucking thank you.
Why Australia and Canada? Healthcare!!! Middle class kids can spend their twenties exploring their poetry without needing to get mired down giving the man 40 hours a week. Sweden too!
We still have huge economical issues affecting us here, plus housing is absolutely ridiculous atm, i'd say that's one of the worst things here. But yeah good bands!
I strongly hate our healthcare system here in the US, and I also hate our emphasis on work over the arts. But we’re still pumping out just as many incredible, unique artists as we always have. We just need to remember to keep fighting for additional funding. Not to make this political, but Yang and the decently positive perception of UBI was a great step in the right direction for people to have the ability (and capital) to explore the arts a little further. Also, Sweden? I might be ignorant, but I don’t hear much about Swedish artists doing anything particularly groundbreaking?
San Cisco, Tame Impala, now Stella Donnelly all from Fremantle in Western Australia! Prolific little town isn’t it. I love Perth and Fremantle’s music scene, and I agree with Stella, the isolation of the Australian west coast distils artist and their work into a lot of fine quality #perthisok
Yes!!!! She’s amazing and super talented, one of my favorite artists :3 it’s so cool to see her here on KEXP, she deserves more attention, her work is fascinating! :)
Its strange to think that people from other parts of the world havent heard music like this before. So good to see pub rock on the world stage! Go Stella
God she seems so lovely. Her music is just so delicate and beautiful, and her voice is absolutely angelic. Hearing the Australian accent in music I like is always a big plus too! I think I'm in love guys 😍
Thank god for KEXP and Six Music. So many great alternative bands have I discovered through these two places. Havens of sanity in a world that feels like it is getting progressively darker..
Just finding this great singer song writer, Stella Donnelly, this morning and am very, very glad about it. Great interviewing by Cheryl Waters, with respectful and thoughtful questions. Thank you, KEXP.
Wonderful! I did not know what to expect. Beautiful singing voice. I love the band's light, yet colourful playing. Perfect for what Stella needs to sing on.
Wise beyond her years and with a voice that goes so many places and speaks to so many things, Stella Donnelly seems comfortable in almost any musical genre.
Met her after one of her gigs last week at a festival. Was really cool to chat for even a minute with someone whos music i love and whos making her way up in the industry. Shes just as real onstage as she is off and it was lovely to see.
Had heard of Them a few months ago with the song 'Tricks' on a local hip radio station! Instantly was pulled in and was intrigued, then inevitably literally started listening to Beware of The Dogs two days before this KEXP performance was uploaded! Wow though, undoubtedly am I blown away by the shear creativity and originality! Keep up the great work KEXP, Cheryl Waters and of course the lovely Stella Donnelly and crew!
Man, I wish Cheryl commentated my breakfasts. I mean, I don't even eat breakfast, but I imagine it would be really energizing if every morning she'd be like, "good morning, today you're having pancakes with a side of eggs and bacon; but I'd start with a sip of that nice hot coffee if I were you, I hear it's a really good excelsa from Spain; anyways here's some great music for you, get your blood pumping, knees bending, and energized for the day."
No offense, I love love Stella, but when did Carrot Top join the band? Dude, embrace the similarity! Love the band, the lyrics, everything. Stella, I truly hope you become what you want to become. Awesome!
Que gran interpretación de "Beware of the Dogs", tiene una voz tan angelical y con mucha energía. Espero ya con ansias su próximo álbum que sale pronto.
Is anyone else sad she said "pious crooks" instead of "pious fucks"? I understand why, but that's such a chilling standout lyric for me in the album version.
Nicely done! Will look for her albums. I’d love see some of these lyrics, they sound better & more thoughtful than often accompanying the vibe in this genre. H/T to Cheryl Waters of course for always showcasing gems like this!

Agreed. New Zealand too! Between Julia Jacklin, Aldous Harding and Tiny Ruins... great stuff coming from that way!

The bummer of living in Seattle is finding these sessions and knowing you missed the show months ago
Not just Seattle... :(

I read your comment while the ad was still playing and decided this clearly isn't for me. Backing out after posting this comment, cheers.
I love how she looks like she's really enjoying playing
and the chemistry between the bandmates, the band looks like endless inside jokes and that makes it delightful to watch

The current conservative government is in the process of dismantling all that great funding.

One of the best albums of the year so far and sounds almost identical live, very impressive
Love how three of them are wearing the same nail polish shade.
Ms. Donnelly is just one of them gals that exudes light. What a great performance.
Suena genial, me encantan sus canciones, saludos desde México.
Hmm, what is the tuning on Beware of the Dogs 14:50?
OMG! This version of watching telly is too good. Jack's backing vocals
On the outro, the guy playing the jazzmaster could use a tremolo pedal to spice it up on the picking notes
what a beautiful person
welcome to the stella donnelly band here is your shaker, just grab a bean bag and we'll give you a nod when youre up for harmony.

That bassline in Old Man is so nice
Drummer is seriously in the pocket.

Oh damn, wasn't expecting that 'ooooo' outro on Beware of the Dogs. That was beautiful
