    This album, from childhood to old age, has had more influence and effect upon me than any other except perhaps the recordings of Thelonious Monk. The first tune, Fixin' To Die, I've thought of a hundred times in the last few years, the nearer I get. So glad it's up on the net so I can hear it again. God bless.

    I bought this album and John Hammond's 'So Many Roads' in the spring of '66. Best acoustic Blues compilation on the planet!!! Mine has the crap beat out of it, but that's the homage it deserves. Thanks for the post!

    I've had this since if first came out in the 1960's and had a profound effect on me. Probably sent into a life time of blues appreciation. And it's starts with Dave Ray's "Fixin' To Die" - Wow.
    The Blues will always lift you up and never let you down.

    The vinyl was made of funny stiff stuff. I wore out two copies, and Tony Cooke was leant my last copy. This album wrote my life. I loved it. Still do!!

      @1blastman ปีที่แล้ว

      That's saying a lot. Have you heard his version of Fannin Street or Titanic? Check out the KRG Blues, Rags and Hollers parts 1 and 2 on Electra. Also Dave did "Fine Soft Land" LP. He was my favorite from this era.

    • @musik102
      @musik102 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1blastman Well, on a personal level, I'm not really moved by "bouncy" type songs, like "Fannin Street", I am drawn to the intense delta blues style. Having said that, I do like some of Spider John's bouncy material.

    If I remember correctly (and I still have this LP), the name Bob Landy listed among other musicians, such as John Sebastian, is actually an anagram for Bob Dylan.

      A check of the album jacket shows: "assisting musicians are Tony Glover, Fritz Richmond, John B. Sebastian, Doug Pomeroy, and Bob Landy". An internet search in Tag Archives showed this: "Among the pseudonyms Dylan has used when appearing on others’ records have been Blind Boy Grunt, Tedham Porterhouse, Robert Milkwood Thomas, Roosevelt Gook and Bob Landy."

    • @1blastman
      @1blastman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@terryh5526 Dylan played with many of the New York blues singers - Ric Von Schmidt, and Dave VanRonk. Also being from Minnesota, he probably came across Koerner, Ray and Glover.
      Legend has it that Glover taught Mick Jagger and Bob Dylan how to play the mouth harp.

    After 50 years I finally got my stereo equipment working again and played this awesome record that I listened to constantly in the '60s and '70s. The album says, "See inside booklet for notes on the artists and songs" but I don't have the booklet and I'm not sure I ever did. I'd love to see it if anybody has one. Thank you for posting this great music!

    Does any one understand the words to the second verse of Blow Whistle Blow? Something that sounds like "... if I do hope to see the sign of rain". Is Rick von Schmidt just mouthing words he didn't understand? Does anyone know who he got the song from? I bought the LP back in the sixties but I've never found the answer to these questions.
