I will never not laugh at the 'my doctor has forbidden me to pull/push' gag. It's even funnier in CGI, because the framing device implies that Edward is poking fun at Topham.

To this day I NEVER gonna understand how the DRIVER did not relize there where no coaches. We cant fully blame Thomas here, clearley his driver and fireman where asleep too
Well then, they've probably been asleep every other time Thomas got into an accident, whether because of his own recklessness or someone else's.

There has been at least a few cases in real life.
For example, the Great Eastern Railway ran so-called "Jazz trains". They served north east suburbs of London, and were quite possibly the most hectic services in the entire country. A passenger train would arrive at the end of its service, and crews and workers usually had only ten minutes to serve a train and clear the platform (sometimes less), including having to change engines or run around trains. It was extremely important trains left on time, as any delays had a huge domino effect on following trains. There was apparently more than one case where a tank engine left the station without coaches. Sometimes it was caught quickly, but there was at least one case where it wasn't until the train made it to the next station that the crew noticed they left behind their train!

I think what I love about the Brenner era is how the team didn’t forget about the original series. For obvious reasons they changed some things, but making it quite consistent with the original stuff was something Brenner and his crew did a fine job at. Great video as usual, Nic!

You missed the time “The Sad Story of Henry” was referenced in Season 20 Episode 21, “Henry in the Dark,” where Gordon teases Henry by saying the “Once an engine attached to a train” rhyme to him.
Hearing all these CGI UK dub clips reminds me how incredible of a Thomas John Hasler is. He will always be the ultimate Thomas.

It’s always such a nice treat seeing the cgi series reference the model series. It shows how much the writers did their research.
i mean most of the writers (if not all) grew up watching those model episodes so they could probably recall it from memory

The CGI era's care towards the classic series and even the railway series remembering those older episodes is always a W in my book.
Edit:One thing I noticed is that when the trucks were pushing James he went down Thomas's branch line meaning the cow field has to be down there

The bit about James pushing Henry out in _The Adventure Begins_ gets better when you realized the red engine that tried in the books was meant to be James. That's what Awdry intended but had to change it when kids questioned why James was red, then black on his first day, then red again.
The Sad Story of Henry was also mentioned twice in Henry Spots Trouble and Henry in the Dark.
I just love the CGI era mainly because of the voice actors they give so much depth and feel to each character.
James’ crash in The Adventure Begins truly shows what you can do with CGI as a medium for this show
Take a shot every time Tug says "In this episode" or "in this one"

I hate how in the adventure begins, the cranes pick up James and his tender at the same time without his tender coupling snapping from the weight.
I really love how casual some of these callbacks are, like the Engines are talking about these adventures like fond memories they have.😊
Also I really wish they had made that Gordon episode it sounds hilarious.
According to your comments, there are a couple minor callbacks I did in fact miss. They are as follows:
"The Sad Story of Henry"
In Season 20's Henry in the Dark, the engines tease Henry for always being scared and Gordon recites the opening rhyme of that episode, recalling the time Henry stayed in the tunnel because he was afraid of the rain. Henry also says "Chicken pox are scarier than RAIN" in Season 19's Henry Spots Trouble.
"The Flying Kipper"
In 2013's King of the Railway, Gordon laments Henry needing special coal, to which Toby responds "That was fixed years ago!", referring to Henry's rebuild in this episode. I can't believe I forgot this one!
"Special Funnel" and "Steamroller"
In Season 24's The Great Little Railway Show, Peter Sam brags about his special funnel, and Sir Handel brags about his wheels. Both things are introduced in their respective episodes, though they aren't really recalling events from them so I don't think this one really counts.
I think that's it, though I wouldn't be surprised if there's more. Comment below if you know of others!

This was - as always - a really great video!
Personally though, i think I would've structured it slightly differently, as in, instead of working the refrences back through the classic series, I would've worked my way through the CGI series itself, talking about how they evolved over time. I think it would've helped with alot of the context of the references too, with why they were being brought up, because I do think there is a storta evolution to how they refrences the classic stuff in the CGI series, and how the CGI canon slowly changed over time. haha, this is also a video idea I've been toying around with for awhile, I must do it at some point!
ALSO just a few refrences i've thought of off the top of my head.
I think Peter Sam and Sir Handel mentioned "Special Funnel" and "Steamroller" in The Great Little Railway Show. In Big World Adventures, Thomas talks about wanting to go see the world, which is a call back to Thomas & the Trucks. In Henry and the Dark, Gordon says "Once an Engine attached to a train was a afraid of a few drops of rain". In Cranky at the end of the line, the line that cranky says is quite similar to his introduction line. In The Other Side of the Mountain, Thomas and Bertie talk about him flying, which is a call back to Bertie's line at the end of "Thomas & Bertie". Lost Treasure has the same line about Thomas' firebox in "Thomas & Gordon" from Series 1. In The Thomas Way, a screen shot from Series 6 is used, while not an episode references, it is a call back to the model series with the photo.

one thing i like about the CGI flashbacks are they can go into more detail about things they couldn't do with models, James' crash was certainly a lot better as we saw it happen

Holy crap I didn’t realize how Season 1 was THE most frequently callback season. Yeah it’s the 1st season and lots of it was because of The Adventure Begins, but just whoa, that realization completely slipped past me XD

It's amazing how many callbacks there are to the classic series, even in Big World! Big Adventures!, and it's all thanks to the writers who still care for Thomas. 👏 I certainly enjoyed The Adventure Begins for all its recreations of series 1, a childhood favourite of mine. 😀

It’s quite a shocker when you realize the CGI series was more consistent with lore than the model series. Like Rheneas was consistently in the background in season four when he should’ve been at the works being mended.
I have something to say about Oliver in Toad's Adventure, Maybe he doesnt mention Douglas being involved because he may be talking about when he escaped from the scrap yard BEFORE he was found by Douglas, remember when in the books he was moving through England to avoid being found by the diesels and scrapped by British Rail? Well, maybe in Toad's Adventure he is talking about that time and not when Douglas found him, and toad remembering may be just a TV addition
That, and a part of his speech isn't audible because the narrator started talking, so it's also possible Douglas was mentioned in that part
Maybe he mentioned Douglas in universe We just don't hear it because Donald and Douglas hadn't returned to the series

Nice to see that The Brenner Era was keen on so many call backs. They were sure keen to show fans they cared after years of HiT’s Writing Garbage.
I actually quite like James with the black paint job. The red trimming really adds to it and it's really nice. Then again black is my favorite color so I'm a little biased.
40:50-41:08 I don't think it's really that strange though because Unscheduled Stops was 14 years later from Bulgy Rides Again, Thomas could've easily forgotten about Bulgy cause he never really knew him for any prolonged time at all, and Bulgy not being the most trustworthy of characters back in Season 3 was going to use shortcuts to gradually rid the engine race, and on his first day of plotting on the Little Western he was trying to get to the other side of Tidmouth's terminus before Duck until he found he wasn't big enough to fit under a bridge, and Thomas was one of the engines at the other side of the terminus when Duck reclaimed the passengers, and after Duck probably telling Thomas how troublesome Bulgy was doesn't that speak volumes for mistrust?
52:21 maybe someday, we could have another great comeback for Thomas. And who knows, maybe we could even get more callbacks to the model series then.
Joesph May is a good voice for Thomas and definitely love to see the backstories of CGI Thomas Episodes and Model Series Episodes
Strange that Season 5 didn’t have that much callbacks. It would’ve been interesting to have episodes recalling those episodes. Whether it’s Cranky’s first day at the docks being cranky and later got toppled by a tramp steamer, the engines having trouble with lorries, Gordon crashing through a station, James having trouble with a tree, Percy feeling put upon with too much work,Toad being a runaway train, Duncan getting spooked believing he saw a ghost train on the old iron bridge or the engines experience with a boulder. Plus it would’ve been cool to see Derek, Old Slow Coach, Bertram, or Old Bailey again as well as bring George back for an episode and give Thumper and episode and recall Rusty and the Boulder.

I like how this video can be used for everyone who believes in the separate timelines theory all of the episodes that are 100% canon to the cgi series

Even if they were different canons, the events of the models series are clearly still canon to the cgi series. And yes, characters like BoCo, Duke, Stepney, Arthur, Murdoch and Molly still exist.

I really don't know why they couldn't have turned Henry back into his old shape in the Adventure Begins. It would've looked so cool and a great tribute to Season 1. It would've been so easy too. All they had to do was taper the firebox and remove the splashes. It would've only taken like 10 minutes.
Considering they had to twice the amount of movies than what they usually had to for a year, and that the other 2015 movie had a bunch of returnees they had to make models for, it's understandable that they would have to save time/money somewhere. Personally I would've sacrificed Alfie's return to get old shape Henry

You missed the reference to Wrong Road in Tale of the Brave. After the cold open, Sir Topham Hatt states, “While they (Bill and Ben) may be better known for playing tricks on their fellow engines.” Gordon says, “You can say that again.” which referenced the point in Wrong Road when they tricked Gordon into thinking they were going to dump him in the sea because they made it seem as if they didn’t know that it was Gordon they were around.

I still think The Fat Controller standing idly by while everyone is pulling Henry out from the tunnel to which leads him making an excuse by claiming his doctor had forbidden him to both pull AND push is one of the funniest things from the Classic Series that I still laugh to this day just because of how the line and scenario was delivered perfectly in both the Narrative and CGI versions. 9:56

I really like this video! Honestly, I'm kind of a sucker for callbacks and references to past events since it shows that continuity exists. I was surprised to see that one from 'Percy & the Magic Carpet'. I also think that the "He could've bashed into some buffers" line was a reference to 'Thomas & the Trucks' since Gordon hits the buffers at Maron Station like Thomas did. If not, it was probably a reference to 'Thomas the Quarry Engine' where the same thing happens. Anyway, nice job, Tug!
That doesn’t seem like a direct callback to Thomas and Gordon. That was just a quote from the episode, similar to the TATMR quotes.

The title itself is a reference to Mavis and Ben says “got to see a coach about a train”, referring to Ghost Train. You forgot two references to Trouble in the Shed. In The Adventure Begins, Sir Topham Hatt says the engines will have to shunt their own trains until he can "get another small engine like Thomas," hinting at Percy's eventual arrival to Sodor. And in Season 19, Goodbye Sir Topham Hatt, the station master says "There's trouble in the shed."

Not sure if this really counts as a callback, but season 16 episode 10 "Percy and the Calliope" features the original theme music from seasons 1 to 7 playing on the titular calliope.
Quite a lovely video and of course I always enjoyed when the CGI would reference the old. However I realize earlier you forgot the references made in season 24's great little Railway show about Peter Sam's special funnel and the events of steamroller. But other than that you're pretty much got everything else. Keep up the good work Tug.

The model work is better, the stories vary from either amazing or terrible, we see the SKR again and there some really cool crashes.

Side note: Oliver not mentioning Douglas in his escape story is probably because as of season 18, the Scottish twins had not returned to CGI yet, not until SLOTLT and they rarely referenced non returning characters. Amazing vid btw!
Well since they referenced Duncan in season 16, I find it rather weird that they didn’t mention Douglas here, but as Tug said, maybe he was exaggerating about himself.
Well, Duncan was mentioned in season 16 and he hadn’t returned yet, so I don’t believe that’s a good reason for why Olivier never mentioned Douglas. I believe it’s, as Tugs said, he was exaggerating. He always sounds incredibly proud and pompous when retelling his escape.
@@JZJ7777 yeah that does make a lot of sense, I think they always planned for Duncan to return at the time but his IRL counterpart was out of service at the time so they never got its measurements for his CGI Model

So what I'm hearing is "Chucklesome Trucks" is a nostalgic one.
It’s also a very anticlimactic one. What could’ve easily been a story where Rebecca’s wheelslip (an issue that Battle of Britain classes suffered from) causes trouble for her is nothing more than a series of poorly done CGI flashbacks and a story where Rebecca remains painfully stagnant.
