  • The gravel road from Kliprand to the N7 was another stunning road. This time we were prepared, so we decided to stop and enjoy the lunch we brought along on the side of the road. It was fantastic, the food just tasted better! The N7 goes past Bitterfontein, but we took a drive through the village. The railroad is a big part of the town’s livelihood. The copper ore mined in Okiep, a town in the Northern Cape, is transported by road to Bitterfontein, transferred to the railway and taken to Cape Town. It was soon time to be on our way to Nuwerus where we spent the night at Bakinumpelis. This venue was awesome and the people were so friendly. We woke the following morning and had a lovely breakfast which they prepared for us before we hit the road again. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #bitterfontein #nuwerus

    Nuwerus, the town whose rugby team Worsie Visser wrote a song about! What a wonderful country South Africa is and such a privilege to be watching these videos off the beaten track. Thank you again for taking us to these places

      We never even knew about Nuwerus until we started planning our route and we were so happy we decided to visit the town and stay over! 😁 We didn't know about the Worsie Visser song, but will certainly make a point of finding it and listening to it, it would mean so much now that we've been there! 🎤 Thank you for watching our videos! 👌🏻

    I love the accommodation. Very nice. Would not have expected so much luxury in such a small place.

      Agreed, no wonder it's called Bakinumpelis, right! 🕌 The whole place is decorated beautifully with such attention to detail.

      Love a flask of one's favourite hot beverage while on the road. Part of the whole 'padkos' vibe. 😁 Bakinumpelis is quite a unique place, we enjoyed our time there. 👑

    The name Bitterfontein is wat Governor Simon van der Stel named the place way back in 1685 on his way to the "Copper Mountains" (Springbok). In 1931 a small bag of diamonds (value £80 000) from Kleinsee on its way to Capetown was stolen out of the Post office. Town also well-known for is granite, called "Bitterfontein Green"

      We're always fascinated by those huge rocks and how they obviously rolled down from up high. Scary stuff! ⛰️

      ou should, that sounds like great fun! 🤩 Perhaps you could go all the way to Springbok, it was just a little too far for us for the time we had remaining.

    Funny how hungry one gets in the middel of the Karoo. Everytime I am out there, I have eaten like a starving sailor! And never gained weight. I dont think calories count out there. And food is so much yummier, eaten sitting sitting on a rock with all that champagne air around you. Beautiful place you stayed in. Dont like the toilet in the bedroom! I like my lavatorial privacy.

      It was a fantastic place we stayed at with such attention to detail. We don't mind the loo in the bedroom that much, but they did give us another whole extra room with a private bathroom just in case. 🚽 Super nice people! 👌🏻 We're always hungry while travelling and it's very often a struggle to remember to eat 'proper' food while on the road. 🥗😁

    That structure with the beam and Block & Tackle just after the 7 minute time stamp is probably a pump station?
    Submersible pumps normally need to be removed for periodic maintenance, the structure just facilitates matters.
    It is probably for potable water as opposed to waste water treatment? Not sure?

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may very well be right that it's a pump station, but I honestly don't have any idea. 🤔 Your explanation makes a lot of sense, we have noticed that some of these small towns obtain their water supply from underground water sources and would therefore require submersible pumps. 💧
