I really hope MARTA does a expansion soon. So many new suburbs going up around Atlanta and the traffic is HORRID. I love how MARTA also uses the same 3rd rail covers like BARTs.

These sound absolutely amazing with many elements of these cars found in other transit systems. Between old school MITRAC, the look of WMATA Rolling Stock and what appears to be the same door motors as the R-68 these are quite an experience yet oddly familiar. I must take a trip down there again before the new Stadler cars become commonplace.

Building out the full potential of the current rail lines is a better first step. The recent proposal to add 4 new stations on the existing lines would be a real catalyst for development in the areas around them where there isn't much already. The greatest potential for that is around the proposed stations on the east and west lines.

So I am visiting Atlanta and when I flew in on Sunday and rode the subway I was in Awe because I loved riding the R142A,R143 in New York I came in from Boston and the Type 8 street cars also have the same propulsion
@@EricTheKing I’m all my times in NY, I only rode the R142As/R188 in the A Division. I don’t remember riding the R143s. I don’t like the Alstom propulsion. The Siemens is great on the Kawasaki cars.
Just curious as to when you visited Atlanta. My wife & I went to Atlanta in 2015 for a Clean Show and stayed at the Airport Motel 6. We rode the trains to sight-see. As usual, I photograph trains, etc. On the way in, I photoed through the door to the front and the "driver"(attendant) went ballistic that I wasn't allowed to do that. I also was confronted by a "guard" while taking photos of the beautiful facade in the main station that had been saved from a previous building saying I couldn't photograph in the station. On the same day, I saw a piece on the local news that had video of trains and passengers entering and leaving trains at that station where you could recognize them, and my photography did not. Go figure. There is NOTHING about MARTA that can not be had off-the-shelf if you can afford it and nothing is a security risk. The only thing that is not off-the-shelf is the software to operate the system.

I have lived in Atlanta for 33 years and still wonder what was the purpose of this 2 car line? Clearly it was supposed to be more than this and stuff went south at some point. Ridership has always been pretty low but honestly, it seems like a waste. Now Gwinnett county needed Marta but got voted down 🤷🏾♂️
The green line when first planned was actually supposed to end at perry homes. Another use for the green line (if people didn’t have their heads in their a$$es) would’ve been the tucker north dekalb line. On the planning, it would’ve just been a blue line branch off. But honestly just Because of connivence it probably would’ve just been the green line.
The door's are simillar to the R46 when opening, while it's motors itself sound's like the R143/R142A/R188 but, the motor's on the 2nd stage sound's faster then our NYC Subway. which is 2 second's long.
I live in the area. Not sure what you’re talking about. The N-S line goes from Five Points to the Airport in 6 stops and 15 min. What “express” service would you like?
@@neilaxelrod5872 The problem is there was no planning for future express service, no third tracks. An express from the ends of the N/S lines to 5 points would be nice but it's not possible with the current track configs.
@@JR-Ramsay-IV much of the right of way was former RR right of way. The line from North Springs uses the 400 median. You know all this. And Atlanta isn’t NYC. There isn’t the operating funding or ridership demand for “express” services.

The management is corrupt. They haven’t expanded rail in the two counties they currently serve for over 20 years after promising they would.
Marta is note interested in pushing busses instead of building new heavy rail in Atlanta. They are inept and is need of a cleaning house

These 2 car set ups are for the short lines that only have a few stations.

Early WMATA (back in the late 70s the Red Line was the only service) had 2 cars. 2 car Rohrs or Bredas were used off-peak into the 1990s.
There is currently a single-car service on the Shengavit-Charbakh branch of the Yerevan Metro. Just one car, not a walk-through train like the R211T.

Yeah but the 3rd or second stage of the motors it's faster than the our mta when its one or 2 second's faster.
That's because the motors are made by the same company, Washington DC rolling stock has it too
The r142 has an Alstom Onix propulsion as does the large portion of the r160 fleet

the bankhead platform is too short to fit any train longer then 3 cars so they use 2 cars on the green line.
Gwinnett needs Marta rail, not buses, Gwinnett needs to expand their bus service and quit B.S. around
