⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Exploring Atlanta's Red Line

- The Red Line is a rapid transit line in the Atlanta MARTA rail system. It operates between North Springs and Airport stations, running through Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Atlanta, East Point and College Park.
The Red Line was originally called the North-South Line until MARTA switched to a color-based naming system in October 2009. The North-South Line, from its launch, was considered one line, denoted with an orange color on old system maps until 2006 when the North Branch and the Northeast branch were redesignated as the North-South Line (the current Red Line) and the Northeast-South Line (the current Gold Line). Using the Five Points station as a reference point, the North Line was designated for trips headed for North Springs, and the South Line was designated for trips headed for the Airport.
The rail line was part of the launch of MARTA north-south rail service in 1981. The first segment ran from the Garnett to the North Avenue stations, although the Peachtree Center opened the year after as an infill. In 1982, it expanded north to Arts Center, and in 1984, expanded as far north as Brookhaven and as far south as Lakewood/Fort McPherson. The East Point station opened, extending the line two miles to the south. A little more than a year later, the Chamblee station began service and served as the temporary terminus of the North Line. In 1988, the Airport station opened, and became the terminus of the South Line. In 1992, the North-South Line was extended northward to its current terminus at Doraville. In 1996, MARTA extended North Line services to Dunwoody. This created two branches of the North Line, and the Doraville branch was redesignated as the Northeast Line to avoid confusion. It finally extended north to its current terminus at North Springs in 2000.
Now known as the Red Line, it shares trackage with its counterpart, the Gold Line, between Airport and just north of the Lindbergh Center. Enjoy!

Amazing how Atlantas trains look similar to WMATA's and the CQ311's and CQ312's are still going strong. MARTA is trying to expand the system more but the public just doesnt want it to, the citys highways are always jammed.
And the CQ310s which is the oldest.
Love that sound, just like in NY & Boston
And a bit like the BART in SF, very nostalgic for me
@@ratedpz9461it sounds almost exactly the same as BART’s legacy trains
If you're still in Atlanta, you should check out the north end of the platform where the southbound trains come into Arts Center station. You can hear a low rumble and feel the breeze as the train enters the tunnel from over I-85 at a high speed. Also going Northbound from Arts Center to Lindbergh if you look out the right side of the train in the tunnel, you can see a stub tunnel from an unfinished line to Marietta veer off into the darkness.
Sandy Springs is also special too. If you are there in the off hours when its relatively quiet, you can see the tunnel warning lights come on, followed shortly by the light ringing of the rails from an approaching train. And of course the rumble of them coming down the tunnel from either side. I remember experiencing that my first day after moving to Atlanta, and it was a magical experience.
0:05 that sounded like R188/R142A/R143
The propulsion system is the exact same, thats why they sound alike.
I love MARTA. One of the “3 sisters” as I like to call them.
3 sisters are:
MARTA
BART
DC Metro
If you look around and look closely, those 3 systems share a lot of similarities with each other in terms of design and equipment.
Brother's
Bart is more family member to NYC subway, being built from the same company, I'm talking about the newer ones.
they were all built around the same time using the same federal money
I love Marta I take everyday sometimes feel like you in NYC but Atlanta
He’s risen from the ashes like a Phoenix! Welcome back!
Thanks!!!!!
Anytime
Welcome back! MARTA is such a great system, sadly under utilized like most transit in the US. They are planning to expand the system but it will be cut back from the original plans and mostly be LRT or BRT. Also there is a cool system map in Peachtree Center Station back from the 90s featuring lines that were never built which I found really cool
The ATL Atlanta is booming 💥attractions, entertainment, education, businesses, travel, technology, population, and etc.
It’s a beautiful city!!!
When the world needed him most, he returned!
Love the "singing" propulsion.
Yay! Happy you’re back!🎉
The legend is back! Hope you enjoyed your break :)
Great system. Thanks Tim😀💚

Haha yeah! More vids coming soon!
Actually, I’ve been on MARTA before, and as a New Yorker, front end is R188, while back end is R142A
Hey welcome back!
Thank you kawasaki for spreading the 142a greatness
But this propulsion isn't kawasaki
It Sounds Exactly Like The R142a And The R188 In NYC
Yay he’s back!
The train ride is awesome there like wicked fast took the gold line to Doraville
Welcome back DJ Hammers. I was so worried about you. Did you capture one of the nostalgic train events
Welcome back, I really missed you ☺️
Thank you!! 😊
Welcome back!
Thanks!
Atlanta trains are nice I never saw them
These Trains and R142,R143 And R188 Has The Same Propulsion.
Nice!
0:04 The propulsion sounds like an R142A/43/88
Same propulsion-
Same propulsion, always sounded like that
CQ312s always had this propulsion. The CQ310s and 311s did not always have this propulsion as they had a different one when unrefurbished until they were refurbished
wow it sounds like the r188/r143
I wish that you could make a video called exploring marta's gold line.
He's finally back
Yep! More vids coming shortly!
@@DJHammersTrains thank you 😊
I’ve rode the Marta in Atlanta!!!!

This train sounds like the R142A,R143, and the R188
Hello, DJ Hammers Trains 😃😎
it sounds like the R142A and the R188 lol
edit: I liked my own comment
Same Propulsion…
how many times do i need to say that
Bruh they have the same propulsion
Did you also notice that the horns on these trains also sound like the NYC Subway?
cuz all of the trains are the same
Bruh not everything is exclusive to the MTA
Hey man, is that a Friggin wheel slip when the train pulls off yo?
He returns real
💯💯💯
And The R143
That propulsion sounds way too familiar (:
Wake up DJ HAMMERS UPLOADED
More uploads coming soon!
Inform us of when your taking a break next time please
It's always so low-rent when a transit system decides its trains need to honk before entering a station.
shoddy?
At 5 points both sides open
And northbound Lindbergh Center
Looks like dc trains sound like nyc trains
same propulsion as the r142?
R142A (not R142 which has Alstom traction/propulsion equipment). But pretty much yes (or very similar).
Are these auto or driven by operator's
Both
It’s giveing R142/a
same propulsion…
Make More Videos
Lots of new stuff coming out :D
*explore*
Why are you upload videos to late
People are saying how the propulsion sounds like the r142's and all but no one is mentioning the type 8s in Boston D:
probably because the R142A is better known
Type 7 trains
@elizabethbobbio2601 it's the type 8s not 7s that makes the sound
@@JasonBentrosnowqube type 8 don't have the propulsion, type 7 has the propulsion.
@@JasonBentrosnowqube nvm found it
