I currently have 2 in a qt tank, They're with a HRP and gold severum. They eat like exodons, banging into each other. Got 'em 2 months ago at 1 1/2 inches, and they're now about 3 1/2"! Mad water changes too.

Literally I have two electric blue acaras (female and male) and they where really small when I got them they where about 3,5 - 4 centimeters, now the male is about 6 centimeters and the female is 4 centimeters. Im really happy about them :D. I hope they get big and healthy :>

Planning on the same thing here, have all about 1-1.5 inch acara, peacocks, and jewel cichlids together. Even have tetra with them in a 30 gallon. They’re all babies so I’m assuming that’s why I’m getting away with it I hope the jewels play nice for some reason. 2 jewels and 4 EBAs, hoping the blues keep the peace in the tank aka the jewels off the tetra lol. They don’t bother a soul I’d be confident with full grown blues with tetra

Really nice electric blue you got there! I have one at the moment that I bought from Pet Supply Plus approx. 3 yrs ago and at about 1.5 inch. He's around 5.5 inch now, tank mate with a yellow juvenile red devil I got from Florida this past December. I've had mine for 1 month in my 125, and they just spawned. 76° and 50% weekly water changes. Blood worms twice a week, flakes the rest. Hopefully, a few survive..
Gonna get two of them 2" ones from our local fish 🐠 store here in Singapore 🇸🇬 later ..and put them in a grow out tank ..when they get bigger will transfer them to the 75 gallon.. can't put them in now or it will become expensive feeder fish for my silver arowana 😂😆😅 really love these EBAS... I had 2 and they both died out of nowhere for no reason. Nothing in tank was attacking them. Just angelfish in tank. No clue what happened. Water was fine. Other fish are fine. No clear damage. 40 dollars gone but hey, that's the hobby. such beautiful fish tho
@@CichlidBros Transferred all the smaller ones from QT today. Kinda concerned about the smaller ones getting enough food since the bigger guys feed at the top. I am feeding the Tetra color crisps they love and there's a decent amount of scraps. Anything to be concerned about? Also why is it better to grow them out in a bigger tank?

I wanted to ask, since they are hardy fish do they need a heater? I have a tank for him outside and with jack dempseys and yellow lab and goldfish and they seem to be fine. I have a heater just in case something happens but so far so good. ;)
you could start with 5 very small one-inch fish or a grow out of babies but frankly you'd only want one for any long term in that size of a tank with the possible exception of a breeding pair, but you'd LIKELY need a divider if you chose that route
So… petsmart had my fish labeled as this but my “guy” is more stripped and has 3 yellow dots on the bottom fin. I’m getting a lot of mixed research on if it’s 1. Actually this kind of fish and 2. Of its male or female!?
We have one Acara fish for 4 years now. He is very aggressive and kills off all our other fish. He is now the only fish in our tank. We have tried other South African cichlids but he will kill them as well.

It might be tricky since the Oscar is already bigger and will still grow faster from this point. Best chance would be if you had a sizeable tank (125g+)
What the smallest fish you would keep with the electric blue acara. I have a community tank with Mollies and I have been researching these fish for the past week because my local petstore just got some babies and I want to get one.
An acara of reasonable size will definetly prey on mollies. I used to breed black mollies as feeder fish and you would be surprised how quickly a 5in acara will eat a handful of mollies. They mostly hunt at night, so you will notice the numbers drop overnight.
@@dramaticexperiment144 I keep 2 electric blue acaras at 4-5in with 6 polar blue convict parrots at 3-4in, they do wonderful together. Waiting until 2 of the parrots to pair off to mate and then they will be moved. Goodluck brother.
Absolutely love these fish but unfortunately god doesn't want me to keep them smh ive had numerous and for some reason they alwayssssss get that white cottony fungus on them everytime... And my tank stays pristine and extra clean
Does this happen fairly soon after you get them from the pet store? If so it sounds like ich. If you have a quarantine tank set up I recommend keeping them in there for at least 2 weeks but a month would be best. If the fish looks healthy your good to go, but if the white spots show up add 1 table spoon of aquarium salt per every 2 gallons of water and run your tank temperature at about 80°. Bare bottom quarantine tank and 50% water changes every other to every third day and it should clear up quickly.

Man that sucks. I had one and it got injured about a month after I got it and ended up and died... It was kind of pricy for what I normally pay for cichlids so I didn't get another one. For me it was rams though I tried to keep them and kept failing.

In a fully planted 75 gallon with Columbian tetras and buenos Aires tetras can I have an acara and maybe some apistos or keyhole cichlids?
It feels like my EBA isn’t growing that fast. I don’t know why either. Water Paras are good. I do weekly WC. And I don’t over feed. :(

I would recommend a heater if their temp is dipping below 75. They do best in high 70s

I would probably stay away from the jaguar. They might be too aggressive for the EBA, and they usually need larger tanks than a 75g as adults
Curious if you would put any acara in a 33 gal long. If so, how many? It would be a acara only tank
