Check Out My New Truck Camper - the Four Wheel Camper Project M

- I know I've been MIA for a LONG time - but I've been wanting to come back... And this is the best place to start! Last May we put a Four Wheel Camper Project M on the AEV Prospector XL and so far, it's the best camping setup I've had. But isn't that expected as our setups evolve?
I've built out some storage inside, which I show. And I also go into the considerations I made when I was making the decision to get this camper and compare it to what I had previously, an AT Overland Habitat.
This is very detailed and therefore a little long winded - but it's a good start to where we are today!
Please let me know in the comments if you have any questions!

What a nice surprise this morning, like a visit from an old friend (though we never met). Thanks for the update!
Haha. Nice! It was a good visit!
The gear tracks are a great Idea, I used T track on my overland trailer to hold things on the outside.
Yea the tracks they used are pretty universal. Great place to keep stuff.
Missed the long form content!! Can’t wait for some camping content
Just need to find time to go camping!
This was my favorite channel miss the 4 runner days !!!
Me too. Good times!
I miss all of your content. Been following you since your 4Runner days.
Thank you. Should I get another 5th gen 4runner?
This is the best setup you can get in 24 HANDS DOWN. Love it man
Haha. Agree! Thanks man!
Is it because inflation has caused the slide in one to go up by 20k?
Love the Bronco raptor
Thanks! We're loving it too!
Great demo! Glad to see you back!

Thank you!
Good to see you back
Thanks!!
Coming along nicely
Glad to have you back. Cant wait for the shelfing build video. Have always wanted to build some of those but never looked into how.
It's not too complicated. There's a curve as with everything. Mostly I like the expandability and clean look.
Nice 🇺🇸🇺🇸Dodge & 4wheel camper🇺🇸🇺🇸 been long one year, at least you’re back.👍
Sure has been
Glad to see you back with a long video!
Thanks!
Let’s go! Keep up the great work.
Let’s GOOOOOOOOO
Welcome back, looking forward to more videos
Me too! This has been a warm welcome back.
Very nice, this is the type of setup I'm looking for my F-150
Man I do miss your videos but I get the life happens thing…..it’s all of the editing. Still watch you in instagram whenever I get on there.
Edit time is no joke! This one took me 3 hours and I didn't do any fancy cutting!
Hands down my favorite YT channel!
Thank you!
Basically it's a tent trailer in a truck lol
Thank you for the set up and bringing it down I had not seen that yet.
Very interested in how you’re going to be setting the camper up. I also have a Ram 2500 and this topper is on my short list.
It’s a great option.
Well, we're glad you're back, buddy.
🙏
Can’t wait to see what you do with the bronco!
I’ve got a rack in for it already. Then the ol iKamper is going on it.
Glad to see your back. I’m jumping on the FWC train as well. Just bought a 2024 Silverado 2500HD ZR2, and will be putting the flatbed hawk on it and hitting the road this summer
Oh wow! That’s big time! Dream setup!
Like your setup, looking forward to your using it
Haha. Me too!!
Welcome back!
Thank you!!
🎉 FINALLY 🎉 heck yeah! 🤘🤘🤘
Hahaha. 🥳
welcome back!
Thank you!
This is a great summary, Jason!! Al @sponsoredbywifey does killer work in SoCal!
Al’s awesome
Im excited love and respect 🙏
Thank you! 🙏
Awesome, great tour. We just picked up a Project M and we’re checking out Vecel, good stuff!
Nice! Driven to roam is making some awesome stuff.
Everything is looking great, your place looks very familiar. Possibly near Orlando
Yes, I'm near Orlando.
Welcome back.
Thank you!
Welcome back! I can’t believe that’s Ben. 😮
Thanks Scott! I know right! He’s huge
Welcome Back! Your just teasing us with that bronco in the background…I see a bronco build in your future
There is one happening! Already getting stuff in!
Okay, about time brother! It sure is great to have you back. Let me know if you make it to San Diego area when you want to go camping. We have a ton to talk about. My Son is still in Navarre with the AF. Glad you're back.😊
Will do Larry! We miss the panhandle. It’s great up there
Nice to see you on the "Tube" again, Jason.
Thanks!
Great video walkthrough. We saw you at Overland Expo West checking out the Project M. Nice to see an update and see what you like about it. We are also considering the Project M vs a clamshell style camper for our Prospector XL.
I think its the best option out there in terms of balancing weight, cost and comfort
@@SwellRunner I love the bigger bed size, too. With it just being my wife and I, we can make a narrower setup work, but having a nearly king-size bed would be luxurious.
This was cool, I’m looking for something to build out and am torn between alu cabin and project m, but this kind of detailed walk through helps
I can speak into the AluCabin's pretty well also as it was another I was considering. I went with the FWC because the bed width on the AluCabin was about the same as the AT Overland Habitat. I will say though - if bed width isn't an issue (shhhh, you didn't hear this from me), the AluCabin might be a better pick as it's insanely tough. They're both great products. Also, the AluCabin will probably end up costing a bit more to get it decked out. There's pros and cons for both.
@@SwellRunner interesting, yeah I’ve been weighing these pros and cons deliberately, have you’ve experienced any wind noise issues with your fwc yet?
Welcome back to long formats.
Really have missed being swell!!!
FINALLY !
Yes!
Finally!!!!!!
YESSSSS!
Was wondering what happened to you. Great to see you doing great!!
Haha.
Heyoooo!! 🎉
Hey Corey!
Great video as always. I've got a project vehicle in the works, thinking an M Series will be great for it.
I love mine b
Very likely I'll be going this same route in the future
@oxfoot ! Thanks for checking in! Love your stuff man.
Six! I used to be five! 😂😂
Bout time!
Haha. For sure!
When my bed is deployed into king mode and I need space I have 2 sticks to prop the platform up and mostly out the way when hanging out in camper.
That’s a killer idea
glad to see a new video after so long. ill be honest I don't typically watch shorts like the ones you had been posting but that could be generational since tic toc is so popular with "the Kids". Regardless I'm glad to see new content and hope there will be more to come. I don't see much orverlanding coming out of the south east. who knows you might be posting videos of overloading with alligators and Pythons.
I hear ya on that. I like the shorts because they don't take as long to edit. lol. But I really miss what the long form videos did for me.
Welcome back. Of the two campers, which presents a better "value"? Neither are cheap, but personal preference aside what do you think? What about truck usability with the campers on?
Still think the four wheel camper is better. Just more space inside
Looking great!! (although I still really miss the 4runner😢)
Haha. Me too. I have a 4Runner video planned... and I actually am seriously considering getting another 5th gen. lol
@@SwellRunner ohhh please. You really need another 5th Gen! (Truth: we need you to have another 5th Gen).
Your channel was the one that inspired me to get my 5th gen and to do it up and go camping
Love it. Hey what tires are you running on your PXL? Are you happy with them?
I'm running the Gladiator XComp. I do like them. gladiatortires.com/tires/x-comp-mt/
Awesome to have you back Brother! I haven't heard anyone mention the items that you did between the AT and the Project M. Really has me thinking because the AT Habitat was where we were aiming?
Question - I noticed that there is quite the set back from the back of your cab with the Project M. I can see the benefits of a set back for an offroad rig. But there looks to be more than would be necessary? I would be interested in your thoughts.
It's just how they install it. That set back may be different with other rigs. I could be wrong, but I think the frame size is the same on all the project M's for 6' beds, so depending on the bed size that setback may be different. I have nothing bad to say about the Habitat - AT makes a good, solid product. But for us, the Project M is much better.
@SwellRunner I totally understand about the AT. It is a great option, but you brought some interesting points about the width. Great to see you back! I would love all the build details of you have the time to do the videos. Looks like an awesome project!
L Track rocks 🙂
I know! It’s so easy to work with.
Welcome back Jason, I just purchased a Toyota Tundra, and was thinking about getting a Scout. But 4 wheel Camper was also high on the list. My Q for you, why not just get the completed model w all the bells and whistlers, rather than the PM.
Excellent question. I talked about it in the video some. Mostly weight and cost. The full on slide in model is a lot heavier than the project M and costs a lot more. 😅
@@SwellRunner Thank you, and while the tow rating is great for most 1/2 ton trucks, the payload is not. Always a concern. Looking forward to following your next adventure.
Where do you place the spare wheel ???
I love it, thinking about getting one for my Gladiator. I heard that you need E rated tires for this, do you know if that is true?
Probably not for the Project M - on my truck it's only 400 lbs... I'm sure the gladiator size one is less.
You really should have went with Ovrlnd campers. They have alot more build options, alot better quality control, alot better fitment to every individual truck vs FWC being more universal. And lastly OVRLND campers dont have the goofy obtrusive "shelf" on the inside which is just FWC laziness making it fit more trucks.
Maybe. But I’m happy with what I got. And I like the shelf.
Nice walk through on the project M. I'm debating on gettin one for my tundra. This is probably going to seem like a intrusive question but I have to ask because I've watch so many of your videos. Did you have a neck injury once upon a time?
Thanks! It's a solid setup! Checkout Sponsored by Wifey and Team Battle Trails on istagram. Chronic arthritis. It's such a pain in the neck.
What size is the truck bed??? You measured 38" but forgot to say how long the truck bed was??? Wondering how much open space I will have on a 5.5 ft truck bed when the sleeping bed is fully open? Thanks!!
Are you planning to go to the South East Adventure Vehicle Expo? It's in Starke Florida on March 1,2,3.
Yep
Hey Jason, what is that thing attached to one of your struts I see at timestamp 3min???
I miss the 4runner content
Awesome. I’d do this rather than a truck cap. I wonder what’s the price difference between project M and a truck cap.
I think it depends on the truck cap. Mine as spec'd was about $15k. You can option it out though and get that price up.
Dude you gotta tell me the brand for your sandals?
EASY - Chacos! I did the custom option and did USA colors.
Sup Jason, u gonna come out to colorado and ride with us this summer?
I am coming to Colorado in August! I believe before Expo Mtn West.
We are located in Evergreen Co. We know of some great trails close by
Link for the video of the box you built?
Any issues with dust and water intrusion?
How’s the wind noise on the highway?
Did I miss this in your video? Do you have solar panels? How do you charge ur huge battery?
I’m running the goal zero rv charge kit. Basically their big cable ran from the start battery to the back.
One thing that you didn't touch on was the rear hatch. I've been debating between a enclosed FWC vs Project M for a F250 Tremor. I'm 6'6 and can't tell how difficult it is to get in and out of the Project M vs an enclosed model with the small door.
Dang. I meant to. The rear hatch is huge. Especially compared to the AT Habitat. It’s as wide as the tailgate and very tall as well. Maybe one of the largest out there.
@@SwellRunner Any chance you could get me a measurement from the floor to the lowest point in the hatch?
Can’t we mount batteries on the frame rails w Ram 2500-3500?
I think you probably could. I’m not sure it’s the best location if you think you’d fjord water.
Don’t waste time building doors to hold the boxes, just use a simply hard mounted bungee cord across the opening. It will keep the FR boxes in and ads only ounces.
Thanks! When you say hard mounted bungee cords, what do you mean? Any product in particular you’re referring to?
@@SwellRunner Hard to explain. I’ll dm you pic on insta
Please explain to me how you accidentally ended up with a bronco. Did it just fall into your lap one day or did it follow one of your children home
Hahahaha. Well - I'll tell the full story in my video coming up.
What about using nets over your cubbies?
I've thought about that, just haven't found the right solution - any recommendations?
@@SwellRunner I know you can get nets for cargo areas, but you might have to cut them down in sections to fit your cabinets.
Didn't you have more lawn when you first moved in.
No way. We cleared a lot of
Why not a Kenai Scout camper?
I love scout campers. But it would make me even taller than I am now!
@@SwellRunner that’s right. How you liking the Four Wheel Camper? I’m planning on getting the Fleet.
I’m sure you know this Jason, but the ceiling lights in the project M are dimmable.
Haha. I did! Yes they are! It’s awesome. Well often just have one on at the lowest setting for some quiet lighting
@@SwellRunner Cool. When I had my flatbed 4WC, I learned by chance after a few months about the dimmers :)
Do you have a build video on the box build
Not yet. I will do one though. Maybe not specifically on all the details of it, but I have another component I'm going to build onto it that will go over all the important details.
Why does it no go all the way foward
Just the way FWC installs it.
Has anyone ever told you that you look exactly like Vann Neistat Casey Neistat’s brother? 😮. @vanneistat
