Focus MK2 Engine mount replacement

  • In this video, I'll be replacing the top engine mount of my MK2 Focus.
    This was an easy job enough to do, straight forward and only took around 30 minutes to complete.
    Although this was done on a MK2 facelift 1.6 petrol, it may also apply to many other generations of the Focus, including diesel's, similar engined Ford cars and Volvo S40 MK2 with similar top engine mounts. However, some tool sizes may differ.

    If in the future, you have to replace the brackets again. I recommend that it be from the Hutchinson brand. They make the original Ford [FoMoCo]. At Autodoc, it cost me the hydraulic support and the lower one, about 80 euros. Approximately £ 68.

    Hello mate, good videos. What would be amazing is a video on how to inspect the car underneath for signs of corrosion and/or jacking up and checking front/rear suspension for rust and failure. Just bought a mk2 1.6 zetec on Friday with no service history also

    Good video. This has happened to my 2010 focus I noticed fluid oozing from the right side engine mount which I only noticed when I changed the coolent bottle which was cracked underneath. The fluid from the mount is a dark redish ethinol based water. I've ordered a new new mount from Ford for £124 but I believe buying the genuine part will better in the long run.

      My wife’s Mk3 had the top mount replaced when the car was 7 years old and just over 40k miles. It lasted less than my mk2 which was older and has more that doublethink mileage.

    Hi, I have replaced all three mounts on my 1.6 petrol (same as yours) with ridex engine mounts. However, the car now vibrates alot more than it did. So, I have adjusted the alignement of the engine and gearbox mounts multiple times which has made it vibrate less, but I've noticed that I can hear whats going on in the gearbox alot more than I used to. Cold starts vibrate alot but it settles once up to temperature but not completely. I've torqued everything down to the right spec, but it still seems as if the engine isn't sitting quite right. I'm not sure if you have any ideas? Would it be worth trying different brand mounts?

    • @GentilsGarage
      @GentilsGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. It could well be that the rubber compound of the mounts is a bit harder than other brands. Also, the old mounts might had been hiding an issue with the engine itself. Look into that first.

      @@GentilsGarage Mine is the 2.0 duratec petrol not many have that engine, most here in the UK are 1.8 and 1.6 petrol.
      Hence my confusion re which one fits, I rang ford and gave them my reg no they gave me a part number 1811940
      There is a BUT though I just typed that into Amazon and a few parts came up particularly a quality looking Febi Bilstein one for £36 when I check on there site if that fits my model and put in my car make and engine size etc It says it doesn't fit!
      Now do I trust Amazon or the lady at Ford who gave me the part number?
      Amazon suggests an alternative to fit my car but it's a slightly different shape! I'm just having a look at mine to see if I can determine what is actually fitted if I can see a part number, obviously I can't remove until I have the new part.
      Another complication I see is I have a metal fixed aircon pipe going directly over the mount?
