I love how the moment Cell achieves his perfect form, it pans to Gohan reaching his Super Saiyan form. The glimmer of hope in the darkness… that’s some epic foreshadowing right there.
Imagine an episode so good we get two of the best transformation's of all time Gohan becoming super saiyan speech is so meaningful.

This is officially my favorite of Madison's reactions the way she glows when she sees Gohan transform is so heartwarming.
Great reaction as always and loved how Madison was so happy for Gohan! So innocent! Two things about this episode: I think Goku has the best Super Saiyan transformation just because of all the visuals and it was our first look at the form, but Gohan's inner monologue is so epic and so great. The other thing is the fact that Gohan is totally a student of Piccolo. He understood why the training wasn't working and remembered what Piccolo told him during their first day together. Great writing!
I totally agree about the Gohan/Piccolo/Goku training differences. Goku likes hard but gentle but efficiency, like master roshi's training. But Gohan's first teacher was Piccolo and he learned brutal efficiency from him. Gohan realized that in order to unlock his inner power his dad's gentle nature and teaching style was never going to get him there.
Thinking back and i won't spoil it for her but there was significance in having Cell and Gohan Transform in the same episode.

Why would they spend the whole time training gohan in the scenes of goku in the chamber? Also gohan watching the fight he was the only one never struggling to keep up or anything. It was a lot of hints

This is by far my favourite DBZ episode! Not only does Gohan finally become Super Saiyan after trying to achieve this form for so long, but Cell also finally reaches his long awaited Perfect form. Everything has lead to this episode. And Cell's final design looks so awesome!

lol, toriyama had to be in his bag....the people he worked for didnt like the previous forms of cell and called them too ugly to be a villian...and thus we got the concept of cell and his transformations lol.

@@Antares-rt5ub true, but it’s also the reason why android 17 and 18 weren’t the main villians unlike in trunks timeline. Studio thought they were too young and just some teenagers who weren’t intimidating enough lol.
This episode was was perfect. I mean the ultimate enemy is born but also a new hope as well !
Gohan speech with the Japanese soundtrack under it, always brings me to tears. Such a big step for that kid and well deserved.
Gohan's super saiyan transformation still brings me to tears and there is so much more to come that's 4x better. I love the dichotomy in this episode as well. The blend of the bad and the good. Cell reaches his final form while Gohan transforms at last.
watching this has me literally in tears. as a kid i was in awe by the coolness and cheering gohan. as an adult, i reflect on my own life and how i need to be strong and overcome my own life struggles. fuck

Gohan and Cell power up almost simultaneously. It's a godlike example of putting two opposing forces on a collision course while keeping them apart. Hell, I don't think Gohan even sees Cell until the final battle.
It's also interesting to listen to Dameon Clarke try to find his Perfect Cell voice over the course of this saga. It starts off sounding a bit awkward like he's experimenting with his performance, but he gets it before the end. And when he returns in Kai, he's got it down from the start.

Gohan's transformation was so beautiful and a great culmination of his entire character arc to this moment. Great reaction.
We've been watching Gohan since he was 4 to where he is now, a true coming of age moment. Madison is definitely attached to him. I can see a pet or child named Gohan in your futures.
The contrast of whats going on in the chamber and on the battlefield is amazing. Both main characters from this arc get to evolve to a higher form at the same time. Cant wait for whats next to come…the games.

i love Cells' designs. you have his semi-perfect form with 17, so he gets more male qualities incorporated like getting larger, bulkier and more muscular, and then his perfect form with 18, he gets more defined, less bulky and more elegant/beautiful looking due to the female physique.
Gohan becoming a Super Saiyan just as Cell reaches his perfect form gave me conformation on everything I needed to know. 😏
So much in this one episode. I completely forgot Gohans transformation and Cell’s transformation are in the same episode! Lol holy cow. Goku and Gohan in the hyperbolic time chamber has some of the most cutest moments in the entire show. Gohan finally becoming a Super Saiyan for the first time too. Gohan flashbacks and showing the development.
Also were finally here! Perfect Cell is finally here. Oh man so many great moments coming up.

What a breath of fresh air. Gohan finally breaking thru his limits and barriers to becoming a Super Saiyan still gives me goosebumps 😮 the whole build up and speech was iconic! Simply chef's kiss 🤌
Gohan feels great guilt for feeling like he's been weak his entire life, watching as his friends got hurt and tried to save him.
Gohan doesnt like fighting, but he desires power to save those he loves- which isn't the primary reason of Goku's or Vegeta's reason for wanting to get stronger.
In the manga Goku's line to Gohan is:
"I'm going to lose them all"
"GOHAN! CALM DOWN! YOU NEED TO CONTROL YOUR ANGER!"
Such a beautiful scene.
Then my next favorite part in the episode..
Krillin charging at Cell- & Cell doesn't react even a little bit.
Krillin isn't even a bug to him.
He just doesn't exist, he's like bacteria unseen by the eye.
The distructo disc has ALWAYS cut its target IF it hits.
Krillin even sliced off Vegeta's & Frieza's tail!
To put that in perspective- Frieza's second form was OVER 25 TIMES STRONGER than Krillin- and it worked.
That means that to tank the destructo disc while suppressed like Cell- he'd need to be at least 1000x stronger than Krillin WHILE SUPPRESSED!!!
THAT'S INSANE!
Fun fact: Cell is voiced by Future Gohan's voice actor
While Goku's first Super Saiyan transformation is still awesome, Gohan's first is still my favorite and it gives me chills every single time! I just love the speech he gives himself and then the final buildup. Amazing!
Here's some last little trivia when Akira Toriyama was doing the Cell Saga.
Since Akira's editor was not impressed with the designs from Android 19 & 20 (Dr. Gero) and Androids 17 & 18, this is where Cell was created.
The idea for Cell absorbing 17 & 18 was not planned out. Akira meant for him to be more powerful, but his editor did not like Cell's design and said he looked ugly.
That's when Akira created the idea for Cell to absorb the Androids to power up, which was enough to get his editor's attention.
So when we got to Cell's Semi-Perfect Form, he was meant to last longer since Akira liked his design. Unfortunately, his editor urged him to speed it up to Cell's Perfect Form and complained the Semi-Perfect Cell looked like a moron.
He went through several designs until his editor was satisfied with Perfect Cell that we have today.
Also, the voice actor for Cell in English Dub voiced all his forms. He recalled voicing Imperfect Cell was a big pain to go through, making his voice raspy.
When he voiced Semi-Perfect Cell, he toned it down a bit. But when he got to do Perfect Cell, he mentioned he was able to talk in his natural voice.
One small moment I loved about Gohan's Super Saiyan Transformation was when Gohan looked up to see Goku as a Super Saiyan. It was like Gohan looking up to see his goal. The one reason why they both stepped into the chamber. Gohan's only reason to being pushed THIS hard.

This has to be one of the best episodes in Dbz, with Cell becoming Perfect and Gohan becoming a Super Saiyan in the same episode!

I love the delivery of that line so menacing! Also, what makes Cell tanking the Destructo Disc more impressive is when you realize that's the same attack Krillin used to cut off Frieza's tail, despite the power gap!

One thing I hope gets pointed out to Madison once Gohan goes SSJ2, that THAT is the true ascension of Super Saiyan. Vegeta and Trunks merely scratch the surface of being actually ascended and are more just bulky mods of base Super Saiyan, but Gohan gets it all. The show doesn't make that point really clear until the Buu saga and it doesn't look that much different.

Those chills went down my spine and up my head when gohan went super saiyan, man, I fealt like I was going super saiyan, felt my hairs standing up, DBZ is just too good, it's undefeatable.
# 001 I like how both Gohan and Future Trunks had inner monologues regarding themselves in the Time Chamber. Future Trunks struggling to get Vegeta to acknowledge him and Gohan struggling to just keep up with Goku and be more useful.
Little does Gohan know, he's going be more useful than he realizes.
I love how cultured and smooth Cell's voice is in his final form instead of like an incect or a brusier like the other 2.
I didn't think this until now, but it's super fitting that Cell becomes complete in the same episode that the one who eventually defeats him becomes a Super Saiyan. Still gives me goosebumps!!!
But it's also completely ridiculous at the same time. In less than a year he passes all the Super Saiyans in power. Goku has been a SSJ for 5 years at this point. Gohan goes into the time chamber weaker than every android and comes out fighting Perfect Cell.

Half Human /Saiyan's have a bigger potential for growth and Gohan has been through more crazy experiences than any of the other Super Saiyan's had by the time they were his age.

My favorite Cell Saga episode and one of my favorite episodes in general!!! 🔥❤️ Gohan turns Super Saiyan for the first time, Cell becomes complete, "Ginyu Assault" music returns, "Perfect Cell Runs" debuts! So many great things about this episode!! I love it SO MUCH! One of the ones I saw early because I had it on tape! I started right when the beginning of the Buu Saga was airing on TV so anything DBZ I had on tape during 2002 that wasn't Buu holds a special place in my memory banks!

There is a remake of that 1v1 scene bet Goku and Gohan. Not exactly the same lines but Gohan still saying the lines "You need to go harder" and "Be serious Dad"..Maybe we can reach that arc in 2023.
They do a phenomenal job with Gohan's internal struggle. As a fandom, we all know Gohan is way to hard on himself. He's ten years old and has seen and experienced things no one should ever have to, let alone a child. Not forgetting the fact that by this point, he's saved the lives of Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta and Krillin multiple times.

I didn't know that Gohan's SSJ transformation was this epic until Madison reacted that way. I got so hype pleaaase 😭 Also, it was really hard to control the transformation the first time. I think it was mentioned that aside from learning IT in Yadrat, Goku also stayed away for a year because his SSJ transformation became spontaneous.
The scream Goku is doing as he pushes the Kamehameha right at Gohan just shows he really was firing it at full effort.
Cell's theme is straight fire. There's a really good remix here on TH-cam that I listen to when I work out sometimes. My favorite theme of the whole series I can't say right now, because it's a spoiler. 😉 Perfect Cell.

Krillin getting punted will always be more satisfying knowing he was the first to jump stupid at Cell over an Android, yet he criticized Vegeta for a breakthrough moment when he snapped on Cell for killing Trunks.
You know what really powerscaled Krillin here is that when he powered up the Destruco Disc/Kienzan Trunks dodged out of the way and looked absolutely shocked when it did nothing to Cell which suggests that Super Trunks at this point at least would likely still be hurt by the Destructo Disc.
Everyone talks about Cell's Perfect Form reveal and Gohan finally hitting super sayain, but this moment is really underestimated. This is the move that nappa, vegeta, and frieza all had to dodge. It freaking cut freizas tail off! But all it did to cell was give him a stiff neck for a second...

Man, love watching the two of you watching these episodes so much, especially these really epic ones. Baris, the fact that you’ve already seen this before but when Gohan broke through because he doesn’t want to let his friends and family down and die, you were clutching your face and almost in tears is just so awesome, and Madison’s gleeful shouting and joy about it is so awesome too, we as viewers of your channel get to enjoy the reactions of a veteran and a first timer at the same time, it’s so cool.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again too, I really love you guys’ sincerity. Madison constantly shows true sympathy for the characters. When Gohan is beating himself up for letting people down, the sounds she makes because she pities him for feeling so guilty is so sweet (awwww😢). You really have yourself a good partner there, and she has a good one in you too, two people with real emotional depth and tenderness. Lucky couple ❤✌🏻.
PS. When Madison said “This is the best Saiyan transformation yet!” (before amending and saying Goku still has the crown), I was expecting a trademark Baris raised eyebrow / wink at the camera because she doesn’t know the other great ones she has coming sooner and later, including arguably the best in SSJ2 Gohan. Lots to look forward to!

In which case, yeah, as has been stated, Baris made it clear that she doesn’t read the comments, he doesn’t let her, so she can stay unspoiled and her reactions will stay pure. They say piccolo would be the right master for this situation but that’s wrong.
Only goku knows how to become a super saiyin, ‘the power comes in responds to a need not a desire’ he knew rest and recovery is important and over training isn’t always the best. Yeah maybe with piccolo his power would’ve increased, but like goku said.
‘Gohan you can become a super saiyin by raising your power level, it does t work that way’ And after all of this Gohan becomes the strongest so tell me who was the better trainer 🤔
We'll never know without creating another alternate timeline. What we do know is Goku & Piccolo are great teachers in their own way. Imagine all 3 training for the Androids if gohan already had ssj.

Goku became a Super Saiyan due to the loss of Krillin. Gohan became a Super Saiyan due to the fear of losing everyone. In the beginning, he tried to become one by imagining his Mom or Father killed by Frieza. However, since they were alive, subconsciously it wouldn't work because Gohan was trying to force the transformation. It wasn't real. That's the secret to it. It's not just being strong enough to transform, the emotion behind it is usually the primary catalyst for the change.
Great episode to Perfect Cell being revealed and Gohan finally becoming a Super Saiyan. This was how writing should be.
