I actually wrote "the scary thing that didn't matter" sketch at university about ten years ago. It's weird that the show reminded me of a sketch I wrote when I was a teenager.
Aww if you only saw the first season you missed the masterpieces that came later. Like when a cult leader tried to escape from Betty's mom with a rocketship...
Riverdale gets worse every season. I don't know how I made it through the first 3 seasons. It goes more bat shit crazy than my expectations every few episodes.
@@betweenthepanels9145 actually the more bat shit it becomes the more boring it becomes, bc this show never does crazy things in an interesting way, so can't give af about it after s1. That's why the show gets worse every season, its not bc of how bat shit it is, its bc of how they go about it, in a very boring way. Also how repetitive the characters arcs are and some of their plots too. I can't even enjoy how bad it is anymore, cus of how boring it is.
6:07 Damn it, what *kind* of sandwich? That's precisely the kind of vital detail that you can't omit without ruining the whole premise! 6:45 What *kind* of potato??? Cripes, what awful writing! :)
Please cover the recent seasons, it gets absolutely batshit insane! The main characters have superpowers for some reason, the main villain is an evil British person and at this point it seems impossible to explain the story to anyone who hasn't seen it.
And season 1 was still sane. If you watch the other seasons you'll see MUSICALS! TEENAGERS MANAGING SPEAKEASYS! A MAN CREEPILY OBSESSED WITH HIS DAUGHTER'S UNDERAGE BOYFRIEND! SERIAL KILLER GENES! TICKLE VIDEOS! All this and more.
I was only interested in this once which was when I saw Sam Witwer in it while my sister binged through the show... and then his character yeets himself out of a window a few episodes later. There's also a side story in one of the seasons about drug addicted nuns for some reason. 5:46 That's the type of character I'd be if I were in a horror film
I love this show, like unapologetically, when it’s bad it’s funny, when it’s good it’s actually fun and a bit morose at times and I can’t help but love it, I’m 18 now, I started watching last year, I’m definitely the target audience and I kinda love it on both an ironic and unironic level, honesty Stuart I’d recommend the later seasons so you can see the show go completely off the rails
And here I was thinking The Scary Thing That Didn't Matter was gonna end with Stuart being the zombie saw mill killer the whole time and keeping the corpses inside the walls of his flat. Before he decomposed you can still hear McDougal scratching at the walls desperate for lunch.
The murder mystery is so incidental that, having not seen the show, this video is the first I've heard of it being there. I thought it was just high school drama.
So this show is basically Desperate Housewives, but instead of there being a quartet of neighborly housewives dealing with the shit that goes on in their lives, we have four highschool teenagers dealing with shit that goes on in their lives. And instead of a suicide taking place in the first scene of the pilot with the housewives sporadically trying to figure out the reasons behind the suicide of their fellow housewife and the dark secrets it holds, this show has a murder mystery happening straight out of the gate with the main characters trying to solve the murder which only comes up every now and then as these highschoolers have other shit to deal with.
Netflix we do good somtimes with other original shows like reality z and into the night then there's always a mashed together monster show like Riverdale that's always more popular tiny bit annoying tbh cause the other 2 shows I mentioned are amazong but I don't hear anyone talk about them
For the record, if someone wants a more serious version of Archie but that’s not a complete melodrama, the current comic reboot is pretty good. It’s not perfect, but it’s charming and a fairly decent teen drama/ comedy.
It's funny to hear you rail at season one when it's the fan consensus that it's the only good season and the show just kept getting worse and worse after that. I personally quit halfway through season 4 though I waited so until season 4 to quit is beyond even me.
Like many things from American pop culture, I only know of Archie comics because The Simpsons referenced it: Homer is kicked out the Archie club, and told to “Stay out of Riverdale.” A warning intended for us all, it seems.
It’s garbage. First season was okay with the mystery aspect then it just turned to kiddy soap opera bed swapping trash. Bit like how Bates Motel started strong and then just made it up as it went along.
If you want to watch a modern masterpiece- consider watching Attack On Titan (with English subtitles): the final season is releasing in a few weeks. Truly it’s amazing, it’s the number one show I would recommend and something completely different to what I’ve seen on your channel. It’s free to watch all episodes on crunchyroll legally
Ok but do you remember Twin Peaks fucking around with Ben thinking he was Robert E Lee and Nadine getting super strength or something for like an entire season?
That's an idea - is glee still going? I remember a friend trying to introduce me to it as a "parody of high school musical" and I just watched it and thought - um, there's no parody in this, its entirely sincere
Hi Stu; no, Glee ended several years ago. I think it was initially meant to be a sort of subversion of tropes and archetypes in teen dramas, but it lost that element as it went on.
If you accept that it's utter trash and enjoy unending dumpster fires, Riverdale can be an amazing show for you. I went into it knowing that's it's trash and I enjoyed watching ever horrible plot decision and inexplicable character moments. The places it goes in later seasons are some of the best worst things I've ever seen. So, if you're into that kinda thing, I highly recommend!
I'm glad I haven't watched this show. Just watch Monk if you want a good murder mystery show. The Netflix show Hilda is a amazing show and living proof a show can be good without being grimdark. Although I'm concern about the quality of Hilda season 2 with the recent news and drama about Netflix. One possible train wreck Netflix show you can easily bash is there upcoming live action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Avatar: The Last Airbender without is the best show ever made and it's sequel series The legend of Korra is good to. The big reason people are worried about Netflix live action adaptation is that the first live action adaptation is the worst movie ever created by m night shyamalan. At first people weren't that concern about Netflix live action adaptation because the creators of the show where involved, the Netflix live action adaptation is now ringing alarm bells and waving red flags because the creators announced they left the project because of creative differences.
It crazy to me that your sub count is low as it is. This is the video I'm going to point to when people ask my opinion on riverdale witch depressingly is alot
At this point I have to believe Riverdale is a subversive piece of camp satire, gradually mocking the entire asinine nature of teen dramas by utilizing the kind of "dark" plots you'd see in really amateurish fan fiction. I have to believe that because the alternative is that the god awful dialogue and incredibly stupid stories are both intended to be serious, and that terrifies me a little.
I've never actually seen an episode of Riverdale, but that's definitely the impression I've gotten from the way my friends talk about it. It seems like it's somewhere between unwitting satire and so-bad-it's-good car-crash teen drama that just spirals further and further with each successive season.
How dare you compare Riverdale to Twin Peaks! Twin Peaks was about so much more than teen drama. The show is infused with the Tibetan tea scent of David Lynch's emotional intelligence.
Yeah the key thing is: I get why people hatewatch it. As shit as it is: it knows how to keep you watching: the carrot on a stick method. As shit as I thought it was, a weird part of me actually wants to keep watching it
I actually wrote "the scary thing that didn't matter" sketch at university about ten years ago. It's weird that the show reminded me of a sketch I wrote when I was a teenager.
McDougle lives on in our hearts
5:46 That's probably what I'd do in that sort of horror film situation.
I have to be honest, I saw the notification for this and said aloud, 'oh Stuart you poor bastard'.
If CW wanted a dark version of Archie comics, they should’ve just done a TV adaptation of ‘Archie vs. Predator’.
BenCol or Afterlife with Archie, which is a zombie apocalypse,
Aww if you only saw the first season you missed the masterpieces that came later. Like when a cult leader tried to escape from Betty's mom with a rocketship...
Holy shit.. whuuut.. LMAO. I heard that there's an episode where Archie fights a bear
@@Misadventures_85 Tbf the cult leader in S4, it took a while but they got there

Just wait until the DnD cult in season 3. Or “ticklegate” in season 4. Those are not jokes or exaggerations
what the fuck is ticklegate? im so confused

sounds like the murder mystery plotline in this show is what the white Walkers plotline was in GOT lol
A cult leader tries to escape the town using a rocket he built in an abandoned hotel while dressed as evil canaevil, it's a very bizarre beast
The saw mill horror movie idea, had me.
You should check out Insatiable next. It's one of Netflix' most bizarre creations, in my opinion.
Atleast it gave more of a shit about the topic of murder than Broadchurch series 2 😂

You can leave the show at season 1. The season arcs get less planned out and more ludicrous.
Weirdly enough, the only exposure to Archie I ever had was repeats of the cartoon in the early 90's. I didn't connect the two at all...
