Nice review. One thing I wish all knife reviewers would do though .... tell us left handed folks if the sheath can be flipped. Every knife review should include that.
William,..Well Done,...This is one of about 5 great knives for under $60....Another favorite of mine is the Schrade SCHF9 Extreme Survival Large Knife Fixed 1095 High Carbon...Full profile tang and can take a beating...Keep Them Coming
Have you tested the condor stratos yet or no anybody that has put it through a real test in the woods lol .. I asked prepared mind 101 but he never responded to my question. Well thanks bruh much respect to your channel thanks for sharing. ...
I personally prefer a squared handle. I think if you look closely at some of your other videos and those of others where you are chopping with a round broomstick like handle you can often see the blade deflecting and the edge orientation twisting offline in your hand. A squared handle may be a little rough on the hand but it is my opinion the benefits of grip and edge orientation outweigh this do to the increase in efficiency.
You never answered DizzyBench's question about what exactly is the problem with coating in your opinion. I, too, am curious why there's a problem with it. How does it detract from the performance of the knife?
coatings deter the knifes ability to throw sparks from the spine with a rock and may get in the way of a ferro rod as well. some coatings can harbor debris including viruses and bacteria. coatings are there to keep your knife from rusting so you dont need to worry about it but with regular blade maintenance your blade wont rust any way
William Myers MantisOutdoors coating also seems to be a way to hide a non polished surface (looks like crap). thats what i saw on my beckers. Polishing costs more. Coating is fast.
That coating is to prevent oxidation. High carbon steel knives are not as resistant to corrosion as stainless, like 440. So you have to keep a light coat of vegetable or olive oil on them and make sure to wipe them dry after use. The trade off is that they'll hold an edge three times longer than their 440 stainless counterparts.
Sckarekrow You can heat treat the hell out of any kind of steel you want. But a high carbon 1095 blade will always hold an edge longer than a stainless blade. That's inarguable.
That coating on the 1075 knife is to prevent oxidation. The trade off for highly durable edges in high carbon steel knives is that they oxidize very easily. The simple fix, of course, is to keep a little oil on the blade of they're not coated, and always wipe them off after using them in wet areas. But that knife you got there is way too thick. I like the 3/32 and 1/8 inch blades. And it's made in El Salvador, which means the workers who produced it are paid at pretty much slave labor rates. So if you can live with that, enjoy your knife!!! But if you ever want an American made high quality 1095 steel bush knife that can take a beating , stays sharp three times longer than 440 stainless, and comes with a hand sewn genuine leather sheath for about the same price, send me a message. I'll hook you up.
Thick blades are far better for most woodcraft use. They're stronger, they're better for batoning, and they cut better because they don't bind like thin blades.
James Ritchie I baton the shit out of some wood with my much thinner knives without issue. Sure, thicker blades are better for chopping if you're not in to batoning. But there's nothing you can do with that thick knife that I can't do with my 3/32" thick knife. And thicker knives do not cut better. At the cutting edge, they're all the same: thin.
nice video...subbed. love it when you and prepmind101 work together on shit. I like hearing different thoughts on the same items. i wish you were up in Nebraska I would love to pick your brain on your herbal knowledge. between you and my bro I would be set:)
I was just saying if you was going to spend the 100, I know your buddy Chris loves the B.O.B knife, May I ask what you don't like about the B.O.B. Have you tried any of L.T. Wrights knives like the Genesis. Thanks love your vids lots of information.
im not a fan of the handle on the bob and yes i like the genesis its a good knife and lt is a good knife maker but i dont like the fact that the genesis is made out of a2 steel makes it almost impossible to get a spark from the spine
Thanks for the reply, it's nice to finally ask someone a question and get an answer back, most of the guys that post vids on you tube never seem to find the time to post a reply but you seem to make the time and thats what I like about you and your channel. Thanks again

Hay will grate vide, it as just what I was looking for.
I have not had very good luck with Condor knives! They look great! On the other hand you don't need a $200 knife to have a good time in the woods!
Hey Will, I'd like to see what knife would impress you the most at the $100 price range..

Good job Will
Great video Will!
Enjoyed the good review thanks!
Does 1075 throw sparks with a flint? I seem to remember Dave Canterbury doing a video saying that 1075 wasn't an ideal 'flint and steel' steel.
yes, its possible with a tremendous amount of force.
which knife would you pick, the schf 51/52 or the crotalus? if those were your only choices (sheaths not included in decision). thank you.
What are the disadvantages of a coating?
You ok Will? It's been awhile.
Nice blade
What is the blade width of the Condor Crotalus?

William Myers MantisOutdoors
Thank you for that. I appreciate it.
Is this knife as durable as a BK2?
I going to love it..if they ever make it and ship it :)
Couldn't help but laugh when the baton broke my BK9 does that all the time LOL!!!!!
Remember, out of the box, the spine is uncoated
Thank You .
Budget.. that's what I'm talkin about.
Why did they coat it though? Damnit.
Thanks for the video
seems like any blade that has to travel has to be coated i say grease them then clean them when they get here but that just my humble voice
William Myers MantisOutdoors coating also seems to be a way to hide a non polished surface (looks like crap). thats what i saw on my beckers.

good point
