    GSP first striker I ever seen casually dominate world class wrestler/grapplers and he did it by incorporating strikes into wrestling/grappling take downs. Worldclass wrestlers/grapplers aren't used to a punch to the face followed by a single leg takedown. GSP used this simple combo to absolutely dominate world class wrestlers/grapplers despite him having little to no experience in wrestling/grappling. In other words its like you say, take the fight to the wrestler/grappler or you've already lost.

      Because GSP is a grappler first and foremost

    • @martialbreakdowns

      Absolutely. It’s not just about the level of skill in a certain domain, it’s about the ability to transition seamlessly between all the disciplines and dictate where the fight goes, using that to your advantage. GSP is the best to ever do it!

    Other thing worth mentioning is to keep the wrestler on the backfoot.
    When the wrestler is moving forward shooting for the legs is easy and it becomes even easier to complete the takedown if you are moving backwards because you are going in the same direction as their momentum but if the wrestler is moving backwards not only they have to change momentum, they also have to clash against your forward momentum and defending and even countering a takedown becomes much easier.
    This is why islam struggled so much against Volk in their first fight.
    High volume striking also makes it hard for the wrestler to pressure you.

    • @lonewolf3706
      @lonewolf3706 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Eri587 he beat volk on the feet and on the ground on their first fight. Finished him off on the second. Not entirely sure why you call that struggling. Plus Volk wasn't keeping Islam on the back foot. Volk was taken down several times, the problem for Islam was that volks ground game was on point but Islam was still on a dominant position even in the ground.

    the issue is it's always a lot easier said than done. i started wrestling around 3 or so years ago as a junior in high school and had already been doing BJJ and Muay Thai before, and you just realize there's such a skill gap even now between me and guys who are my age or even younger but who have been doing it since they could crawl. It's just something else entirely because they grab ahold of you and there's pretty much nothing you can do about it, especially if they also have good submission defense

    • @BobrLovr
      @BobrLovr 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      that's how you'd feel against an incredible striker as well, or even an incredible BJJ. It really just depends on how much better you are at your skillset than they are at theirs.

    All props to Sapo but I heard Ben was trying to gas him out so he kept trying TD’s that weren’t fully committed. Sapo with his great Judo still defended very well. And it seemed Judoka (though I’ve only seen Ben fight a few of them) gave Ben the hardest time in his career. But then Sapo may have faked the effects of the eye poke because he finally was tired/ tiring and Ben was relentless

    There's a various problem, the wrestler sometimes also be able to strike even better than some fighter with a strike background, you can see islam vs DP 😂😂. I think the only solution to beat any fighter with wrestling background is becoming a "better wrestler". In the ufc, you can see especially the dages gangs, they also have a very good strike thats why they are very dominant

  • @13bfc
    @13bfc 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    In all honesty if you want to defend wrestling then you have to improve your wrestling defense & counters. In training when i see people avoiding wrestling, i tell them "grapple back". Which this video mentions.

      You can definitely beat a better wrestler, even in their prime. The problem is a lot of people have the skills to do it, they just don’t strategize around them or stick to the strategy once the heat gets turned up!

      As a wrestler, and BJJ practitioner I second this. Only a better wrestler beats another wrestler at wrestling. many opponents have tried the counter wrestle both khabib and Islam, by trying to hit the switch when caught in a single leg and just ended up in a far worse position.

    Great story.
    What are your credentials? How many world titles in wrestling or sambo you got so far?! You see, it's very easy to be an observer and say that this and that can be done. Different animal when you yourself are inside the octagon getting smashed by someone like Khabib.

    • @martialbreakdowns
      @martialbreakdowns  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Why would I need to be a world champion in either wrestling or combat sambo? For the record, my credentials are in the channel description and are more than the majority of people producing content on the subject. But again, I don’t think they’re necessary. Some of the best coaches on the planet actually have zero competition experience, (for example Firas Zahabi never competed in MMA and John Danaher never competed in BJJ). You are absolutely right that these things are easier said than done. It’s a combat sport. Everything is easier said than done. But it’s also important to remember that these wrestlers who are dominating the sport like Khabib, Chimaev, Nickal, etc. are not Gods. They’re human beings who have all lost before in competition (yes, even Khabib), the practice room, etc. And they can still all be beaten. As GSP said, “Being the best in the world is an illusion”.

    • @lonewolf3706
      @lonewolf3706 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@martialbreakdowns I asked about world titles to see if you have ever been the very best and applied the knowledge you're propagating here, anywhere else.
      In this video you almost sound like you're implying that none of the coaches in the ufc, who has gone agaisnt the dagestanis knows better than you do and that's plain arrogant.
      I never said the dagestanis can't lose . Islam has lost before so you're here just using a strawman to avoid arguing my real point.
      Let me change the question then. How many students under you have are currently fighting in the ufc, one FC or any other big organization? Of those students, how many have defeated the dagestanis?
      Show us some substance here cuz again, talking is extremely easy.

    • @martialbreakdowns
      @martialbreakdowns  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      This reply is more for anyone reading the thread as it seems you’re just looking to argue (which is fine by me, comments fuel the algorithm). Addressing your second paragraph, those are conclusions you jumped to, not anything I ever said or even implied myself. I offer perspective and insight based on a combination of personal experience and evidence (which is why I show examples throughout the video of each of the points I outline working against the exact high level wrestlers we’re talking about).
      To answer your second question, again, not that it even remotely matters but; yes I have personally taught wrestling technique to professional fighters in the UFC, Bellator, and PFC.
      And frankly, it wouldn’t matter if any of the people I’ve trained have beat a fighter from Dagestan anymore than it would matter that they had beaten a fighter from Oklahoma. Only 2 of the 5 fighters I use as examples in the video are from Dagestan. The video outlines a strategic plan to implement against wrestling based fighters, not fighters who were born in a specific geographic location.

      @lonewolf3706 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@martialbreakdowns
      Dude, your video states that you're *"Cracking the Dagestanis wrestling"* or whatever, implying that you somehow got the perfect answer to deal with someone like khabib, for instance. Your audience sure seems to think you do.
      And no, am not commenting for the sake of commenting. I want practical situations where your advices worked- even if it's you wrestling a high level grappler from Dagestan and winning, otherwise what you're just spewing bullcrap because it's only practical when using words and video analysis, not in actual combat.
      Don't get your little feelings hurt because am questioning what you say, back it up with solid evidence instead.
      Are you under the impression that you're the only coach on TH-cam who seems to have figured out how to stop the dagestanis at wrestling? And again, I don't even know how legit you are.
