    Hi hey you really look like you love what you do awesome .
    It's so refreshing to watch someone who cares.
    Got a Question.
    What type sandpaper wood you use on drywall that's has a thick plaster on it it's truly ruff .
    I know we will have to skim coat it but there's so many valleys groves in it I'm afraid if I don't sand it even the skim coat won't hold like you said.
    I'm a DIY tossed into a heck of a job and want to do it right.

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you’re going to skim coat it, use a really coarse grit like 80 grit. And dust it afterwards or the dust makes it hard to stick.

    Hello. I am doing a skim coating project - I’ve coated all my walls and now am going around patching little craters from air bubbles, etc.
    With those spot patches, although I do light spotting of mud and feather the edges, I sometimes have trouble getting the patched spots to blend with the skim layer beneath when sanding them.
    I can trace my fingers along the wall and feel the slight ridge where the patched spot begins.
    Am using a 220 sand sponge - am I doing something wrong ?
    Would it be better to prime the walls and then go around doing the small spot patching, rather than attempting to layer mud on mud?
    Appreciate your guidance

    What grit do you use for sanding a pre-painted wall that you're about to mud over? And what mud would you recommend on the underside of corner bead? Wasn't sure if outside corners have expansion issues like regular seams.

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sand over paint with *80 grit* , and use regular all purpose, or lightweight all purpose under tape on bead, just like under paper tape.

    For power sanders: Are random orbital sanders better than your typical circular sanders? Hilti, Festool, DeWalt I'm all looking at trying to know which is best.

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know, there’s not a random orbit drywall sander out there in the 9 inch size category. I just looked up the Dewalt one on their site and it said nothing about it. Edit I just looked and I think the Mirka sander is an oscillating and not just spinning sander but not positive

      Random orbital is definitely better than just orbital. I have a Festool Planex 2, expensive but worth it. The built-in circular LED raking light is my favorite feature.
