There are a few other videos on the Tube showing how to tie the GT KNOT. However, this video is absolutely the easiest to understand. It makes all of the other videos obsolete I think. When I watched this it began with a good close up and that close up image never left. I did not have to watch hands, but could easily see what the fingers were doing all the time. Perhaps the neatest part to understand, is that after the basic "Square Knot" is formed at the beginning, and made with 2 Wraps instead of the usual 1 wrap that we all learn as kids, the gentle pull on the lines forms the "Figure 8". This then gives the 2 holes through which the Braid is pushed through, first from the top and coming up underneath to go through the other hole of the "Figure 8". This is really an innovative feature of the GT Knot. Once my dimwitted mind understood this thing, I felt a great confidence.
Double uni is not practical for larger line diameters. When you have 200 lb mono or fluoro, the wraps don't cinch properly and its way too large. Just because it works for certain line diameters doesn't mean its great for all lines. The FG is a better knot for larger diameter lines since it doesn't require the line to wrap around itself to form a knot. That knot is two to three times the diameter of the line without a knot.
This is the best knot for sure, I have never had a leader come loose with this knot. It's extremely strong and very easy to tie so mistakes are not made.
I like this one if its outside the guides. The Tony Penya forms a little sleeker cone to get through the guides and put on the reel. This one is strong though, a figure 8 and a uni.
Just a suggestion, next time use either bigger line to show the knot, or different colored rope, easier for you to tie and for everyone to see. Great vid.
Very strong knot but not as strong as the FG in my test. I learned to tie the FG in my hands now and can do a 20 wrap knot in under a minute. Uni knot for hooks and FG for leaders is about all you need the majority of the time. I have used the GT knot with good results but prefer the FG.
Tying the FG in rough weather is futile for me. I tie a double Uni on the boat but may give this a shot. Threading through that figure eight might be tricky with smaller leader material.
Double Uni-knot for me especially in low light conditions. You don't need to try to thread the line through small openings and you are using a Uni-knot on one side anyway. Why not just do a double?

The next big innovation in line will be the elimination of knots between braid and fluorocarbon and use of a bonding agent and/or a small micro sleeve each line end can feed into and be sealed with heat or epoxy to bond the two lines together. People hate tying knots and a good engineer will put an end to the cumbersome knots. I am working on some innovations now to solve this problem..
Yeah, but the uni knot itself with mono is very bad, if a bass takes ur lure, most likely it will cut you off from the line to line knot point, I think that inside the knot, the mono or flouro is all twisted and handed, and the braid makes it fraid, I know a lot aboutwhats wrong with the uni knot(line to line with braid) because I lost too many fish on it

When you tie the knot, if the tag end of the mono is going left (so your spool is on the right) should you feed the braid left to right and tie the uni on the main line above the figure 8 mono knot or feed the braid right to left and tie the uni effectively on the tag? This maybe a good knot to use, but this isn't a GT knot. A GT knot requires a Bimini Twist Knot. A GT knot without a Bimini Twist Knot is not a GT knot. Thanks for sharing though; definitely a much simpler knot compared to a GT Knot.
Nice demo video. But the only reason why the GT gets all of it's attention is strictly purely and only because of its strength. For many people it's now more tedious to tie than the newer methods to much more easily tie an FG. And most importantly, it's much more bulky to go through the guides than an FG, or for that matter even a uni-uni. There are just too many neophytes that think the Only important thing about a knot is its strength. I guess they'll just have to learn some things the hard way.
I feel like it's my mission to follow this knot around TH-cam and explain it's not the GT knot tested by IGFA. This is an inferior knot to the FG knot and many other knots. Don't use this knot if you expect to land a big fish. It's being promoted by TH-cam knot tying channels, not by experienced big game fishermen.

Do you make up your own names & claims for all of your knots? This is widely known as a "No name knot" there are also several strength test vids online-TH-cam showing the FG knot is a stronger braid to mono knot. I've done my own strength tests and concluded the FG is definitely stronger.

I tie a Palomar knot anytime I use braid.

It's not a uni to uni. However it's the same knot people use to tie sabiki branches to the sabiki's main line.
