      Moral of the story is that you should have just popped it in! What was the cost of the rebuild? Probably could have bought 5 or 6 junkyard queens for the cost! Simple checks for chain slack, any axial or radial movement on the input/output shafts and fluid quality check and done!

    the title should say something more like "NP231 SYE slip yolk eliminator install" (or something about 231 sye, or 231 slip yoke eliminator !
    this is a great educational video, but will not be found by the diy offroad folks, only the hoonigan folks. the title and description are what make a video searchable

Anyway, it's a NP231, long input 23 spline. I honestly need to check if the previous owner already did the modification, I haven't crawled under it in awhile as I am waiting for the title still.

    • @nick-zi4bs
      @nick-zi4bs 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@itsBeeBeauvery cool 5.3 in a tj they rip.plenty of power i would definitely think about a axle swap tho especially with it being a 4cyl the dana 30 front n 35 rear dont hold to well to the power of the v8...what year 5.3 anyways ? And what are you doing about a ecu and pcm.n wiring?just stock .or are you going stand-alone.or piggy back it to the stock jeep so you can use your cluster ?and what about engine mounts? from past experiences getting the oil pan to clear the axle is tricky. unless you push the engine back or rise the engine high enough to clear .biggest issue i ran into were the axles.engine mounts and computer we have done a few at my work ....we went 6.0 out of the a gto with the. 6 speed t56 magnum trans and we used haltech ..but didnt rly have a budget lol ..and we got lucky and got a Rubicon which has dana 44 in the rear...good luck tho sounds like a good project..i wish i could have kept the tj we built.was a bad ass jeep and super fast..alil to fast lol

    • @itsBeeBeau
      @itsBeeBeau 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nick-zi4bs 2003 (Gen3) 5.3L. Already have a Rubicon take off D44 for the rear with the stock locker/gearing/brakes, think I will keep the D30 upfront for the time being, budget limited, for now. I will be using the ECU/PCM from the 5.3L and run just a cheap set of aftermarket gauges with a filler panel, think the autometer kit but without the name brand haha. I thought about adapting the Jeep gauges/instrument panel and I might still, the tach is the tricky party but Novak has a module/adapter although it's pricey. I figure that part of the build will be somewhat played by ear but I plan on trimming down my own wiring harness and what not, not my first time doing engine swaps like this, although it is my first jeep. I plan on using Dave's Custom engine mounts as they seem to give the most clearance. I read about the oil pans sticking down too far, I know there are GM Part #'s for lower-profile pans and their pickup tubes, will cross that bridge when it comes. One of the few areas I haven't researched is what I need to do for my drive shafts, haven't really penciled that in to my budget yet. I want to do the SYE if it isn't already installed so that is pretty simple as Advance Adapters has a great kit, with drive shaft, and like I said before, I need to open up the transfer case anyway haha.

    27:35 that’s not true that’s a old time myth rtv drys when there is no air or a vacuum so slapping that case together right after you lay the rtv down is the best seal you will get you just have to wait for it to dry before adding oil 🤘

    • @pkuudsk9927
      @pkuudsk9927 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your both right and wrong depends on what type of product your using. Three bond 1104 is grey and will "skin" Permatex "the right stuff" is black and will "skin" both are dry in 10 minutes after assembly. They are the only 2 types I ever use never ever had a leak with the least amount of spread out. What amount of spread out you see on the out side the same amount is inside thats what fucks shit up when it come loose and plugs up oil passages . a 1/16" bead in the center of mating parts is all that needed. People use way too much 98% of the time,best to wait 24hrs when possible ,but, I have used the right stuff on oil pans and added oil as soon as the car came down off the lift with no problems.

    And for everyone take note how thick he's running that bead of rtv gasket not 1mm not 20mm like. 0.1mm the thinner the better just thought I'd say this as I've come across lots of engine parts transmissions and transfer cases that are full of chunks of rtv stuck in the filter or water jackets and the worse part is like for motors it gets in the rad and plugs it ip good and no home flush kit will get out sometimes even hot chemical tank job can't get it out so go easy on it and one more thing he could have done was put some brake in lube on the shaft it just helps the first start of use of it but other than that love the vid guys and he knows his shit good teacher for this shit
