I miss 2016 so much! People say the year you got into kpop is always the best one for you, but oh boy I was so lucky to get in 2016 because WHAT A YEAR!!!
2016 felt like a year when everyone supported everyone’s comeback or debut, like you would definitely catch fans voting for each other if their idol is not in the same category or soemthing, kinda rare now I guess Edit: it was also a lot of ppl’s final comeback, a lot of these groups and idols are either disbanded or no longer active, and I’m very glad EXO’s monster brought me into the golden year of Kpop
True. I feel like 2016 was when it went downhill for fandoms. Back then there was ofc a sense of rivalry, but it was more in a joking matter. People for every fandom literally listened to everything, and there were a lot less solo stans (as in groups and single members). Especially with bts dna kpop slowly became mainstream, and people started getting into kpop not for kpop, but for bts and Blackpink only. Kpop is still amazing but I kinda miss 2016 times.

In 2016, I ordered like 15 kpop albums and my mom got SO upset with me because she was like, 'you don't even know Korean what are you doing??' Almost six years later and now my family is used to it 😩🤚🏽

Technically, it was 2015 that I got into K-pop, but all I remember was that at that time I was super obsessed with GOT7, specifically their songs "Just Right" and "If You Do", and I didn't know a thing about any other K-pop artist. I only started to adventure out to other K-pop songs and artists in 2016-2017. The second group I got into was TWICE. I got the notification for "TT", it was just released, I pressed on the notification, watched the "TT" M/V, and I was hooked.
2016 bring us the MOST ICONIC DEBUTS EVER: NCT and Blackpink, their debuts were so powerful (and still feeling so powerful), they are the best rookies ever.
I am actually proud to be able to say 2016 is when I got into Kpop, it feels like forever ago but also like it was just yesterday. It's so nostalgic to look back, I'm saddd. But also the taste in this video is immaculate.
Impressive when you realise 90% of those stayed extremely iconic over the years, so many different styles, some really ingenious productions. It really feels like "the year Kpop stepped up" to me, and although today we have way better production quality I'd like to see some of that older creative spark, with more uniqueness (don't get me wrong there were already some heavy trends for sure) I also realise that groups that made history that year are mostly the same ones that make kpop history today, the 2020-2022 generation of groups has yet to leave a strong mark..
Golden days. I remember when Save Me was released, I dedicated 3 hours to watch every single member in the MV only to be distracted every time by J-Hope.

BS&T is enough of a reason to call 2016 the best year imo. Never has a song punched me in the gut, snatched my wig and made me ask for more. To me, it is the single most amazing song in all of K-pop. It is grandeur. It is splendor. It is tragedy. It is beauty. It's J-Hope singing WONHAE MANHI MANHI and I never want him to stop. It has Kookie swinging upside down with a lollipop and somehow making it look incredible. It has RM making smoke look sexy. It has Suga looking like the general of absolutely everything. It has Jimin's ICONIC jacket shrug that has stuck with him to this day and it is beautiful. I have never been as happy at the sight of a goddamn shoulder before or since. It brought us the MAMA 2016 performance of a lifetime. V's ripped off wing scars made sin look like a good idea. Jin looks like an angel at the beginning. There's this magnificent painting and yet he's the visual to look at. All in all, I have never seen art like that before or since. TL;DR Blood, Sweat and Tears is the best comeback I have ever witnessed and probably ever will witness.
I actually got into kpop in 2016 and woow, this is extremely nostalgic to me. Like I listened to these songs so much and everything was so new, that time feels like a different dimension than now, it became such a constant part of my life without me realizing it. And it was such an accident, I listened to Nct U's The 7th Sense without knowing what I got myself into.
the fact that i know almost all the artists/songs on here....this was block bs peak era though omg. since this year was my sophomore year in college, my love for kpop experienced a resurge, and i got more into (mid to late) 3rd gen groups and girl groups. still ran a vixx blog on tumblr and watched sooo much variety. i do miss this time because i feel it was easier to keep up not just because of knowing all the groups but because being in the korean student org in college showed me so many artists. also because there was so many good songs. now, many of these artists are no longer active :(
