- I never used to carry a dog evacuation harness...
That is until my oldest dog, Ash, was seriously injured on a hike, and I had to carry a 60 lb dog out by myself.
Now, not only do I carry a dog evac harness, but I recommend all my fellow hikers with dogs do, too.
In this video, I overview two dog evacuation sling options:
1. Ruffwear BackTrak Dog Evacuation Kit
(alnk.to/aANsbQw)
2. Fido Pro Airlift
(fidoprotection.com/products/f...)

I would prefer one that carried the dog vertically on my back...I think that would be better as it would allow the dog to breath easier, not putting so much pressure on the stomach and ribs, and then it would allow it to put its front legs and head on your shoulders.
That's a thought! I haven't seen dog rescue harnesses with this construction, but general dog carrying backpacks that allow this. Either would work in an emergency I am sure.
I had a Stone Glacier Solo with the KRuX frame and used the load shelf to sling the dog. I believe Seek Outside and a few other companies have fabric load-shelves meant to carry moose quarters out of the swamps
I know those backpacks are not "ultralight" in term of thru-hiking, but those backpacks are used in other categories of "ultralight": cinematography, packrafting, backcountry hunting, bikepacking, kayaking etc. You know hobbies or careers with extra gears that cannot be trimmed down for various reasons
@@ZaryaTheLaika This is such a good tip! I've never considered these as an option, but it makes so much sense.
@@theoutdoorminimalist No worries. If folks haven't talked about using their Kifaru for carrying their kids or hauling abandoned tires out of the woods during trail clean-ups or public land clean-ups, I wouldn't had have thought slinging a dog on there.
Also grateful for David Chenault for expanding "ultralight" definition to include adjacent backpacking hobbies that are not thru-hikes.
Any good ones for the dogs who have three legs because I want to buy one for my dog but all of them have four legs.
Thank you
I am not sure! I would contact the Fido Pro team directly and see if they have any suggestions or if the standard harness would work for a three-legged dog. Sorry, I can't be more help!
Hi would u recommend using the fido pro for daily use?
No, these are meant to be used in emergency situations and are not designed for daily use.
