Changing the name would have yielded a quarter of the media hype. They worked for 25 years building a brand - they deserve to start a new chapter under the same banner.
More than that, the name has never had anything to do with Chester in the first place. People think it does because they think of Chester's voice when they hear the name, but he didn't own it. The band was originally Mike, Rob, and Brad, and at that time it was called Xero. Chester was the last member to join, and when he did, they changed their name to "Hybrid Theory". So if any name is Chester's, it's Hybrid Theory. The only reason they even became Linkin Park is because their record label insisted they change their name so as not to be confused with another band named Hybrid. The entire band collectively chose the name, and they only did it because their label told them to. Which means the name "Linkin Park" either belongs to Warner Bros. Records, or it belongs to the entire band. I don't think anyone would argue for the former, so if the band owns it, they get to keep using it as long as any of the members are still in it. And 2/3 of them still are.
Exactly. They will be fine. She sounds great IMO. Anyone thinking it's disrespectful or that they should change their name is just ignorant. IMO. Chester was depressed and unfortunately didn't win his battle. It was sad but also his choice. The rest of the band shouldn't have to change from Chester's choice
The interview with them a week ago resonated that sentiment and they spoke to the decision to continue as linkin park. Was a really good interview if you check it out Pegasus
@XvKJP2015 the people saying they need to change their name need to do research and realize it was mike and brad who first created linkin park not chester so why would that even be a thing? Lol chester will always be remembered as mike pretty much said live we all carry on chesters voice that he is basically within us
I think the fact that they chose a female lead just proves that they know Chester can never be replaced...I think it was smart and she has a good voice
@@mottoswgoh9004 It's going to take more than the (reportedly) 8 months together for her and the band to really figure out how best to sing the songs. On top of the time that it'll take for her to personally settle into the spotlight and the pressure.
@@mottoswgoh9004I think that'll just come with experience together. These are their first performances and she's already made some changes between shows
I completely agree with this. I miss Chester, and Emily doesn’t replace his voice - even on his songs. It’s the hollow sadness that is missing. If it was another male singer, the comparisons would be endless - just as it was when Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth in Van Halen (admittedly under different circumstances). She comes in and the band declares that this is the new vocal sound. They’re not trying to replace Chester, they’re declaring Mike Shenoda and the rest of Linkin Park didn’t die, too.
@@mottoswgoh9004I’ve been following the performances after the first introduction concert and she actually sounds like she is improving on the old LP material. She has dialed it in more. I agree she doesn’t have to scream ALL the Chester stuff. She can use her own girl voice and it will sound more natural. I am hopeful for the new material.
Remember as much as we all loved and still love Chester this was Mike's band to begin with. Chester was added. Be happy for the band moving forward and I think it's just a new start for everyone.
Linkin Park was always Mike's band. He wrote most of the songs. 4 of the 6 original members are still in the group. Why wouldn't they keep their band name?
An average, uninformed person is going to assume it was Chester's band, because he was 1. The front-man, 2. Incredibly unique, 3. An emotional powerhouse. Plus, people typically associate the guy who's doing the rap-type shit in a rock song as the "Extra" or "Featured". Like, obviously you would start a rock band, then go FIND a random dude to rap in some parts, right? If you explain to people that Mike was the main songwriter, and that they had their musical and lyrical style before even meeting Chester, they get it. "Linkin Park was always Mike's band" is true, most people just don't know that.
There are people that arent going to like anyone in that role. she straight up started crying while singing "Waiting for the End" during the live show. no one is chester, she has balls for even trying, but dammit, she sang her ass off and left everything out there snd let us see into her soul, just as chester did. to ask for anything else is ridiculous, IMO
...exactly....even if they are replacing him as in the professional role, we shouldn't be impossible in our standards for Emily, it a new era for the band, and for Emily.....
Her performance of Crawling completely sold me on her, and seeing clips from the New York show, as she gets more comfortable she gets even better. Her scream during faint was absolutely insane.
I wasn't quite convinced with Crawling at first tbh. For me, One Step Closer, In The End, Numb, and Faint did the trick during the livestream. And they have a great chemistry on stage.
Saying “Hey Mike, you should change your project’s name and perform LP songs under that new name” sounds crazy. I’ve been to the NYC concert and you have no idea of the catharsis they are having right now. The vibe was just amazing.
@@speedball10169 Don’t you think they already have enough money for several generations ahead? You must’ve never experienced losing someone your future was tied to. In that situation, your spectrum of emotions becomes so wide that you wouldn’t even believe it. Including the feeling of injustice, ‘cause you never asked for this. Everything was decided for you. Btw, Mike talks about it a bit in Post Traumatic. IMHO, they’re just trying to get back what was taken from them. Regarding Rob, it looks like he has different priorities. This is absolutely normal ‘cause it’s life.
@@ann_7890 Is there ever really enough money? If you had the opportunity to capitalize on your name and likeness to further your career, you wouldn't do it?
@@speedball10169Finally someone in the comments thus far who sees it for what it Truly is! Seems So Many Forget All the Crap Mike has pulled behind the scenes for Decade's. IMHO they (fans) just want that emotional connection in a way. This was not just a money play, the Bigger issue is Shinodas EGO!!!!!!!
She sings her heart out, and I think Chester would have loved her for that. I'm late to this show, but if you've not yet checked out their song Heavy is the Crown, check it and get back to me, my friend.
I was a huge linkin park fan growing up. It doesn’t bother me at all. They released all of the other songs with chester first. Life goes on and she’s absolutely amazing
I don't think they need to change the name. Chester was amazing and really missed but was not even the first singer of the group Mark Wakefield was when they were going by Xero. Chester came joined as they transitioned Into Linkin Park and will always be a part of LP. it's not a replacement it's the next era of LP who has even changed their style with Chester as the singer. While Chester is IMO one of the top rock vocalist of all time Mike has always been the creative force behind LP and the one who really drove their sound and evolution through the years
I’m also not sure it would be a wise decision to change names. Sure, there are probably gonna be changes in the lyrics. I’d be surprised if both Emily and Chester had the same traumas. But now they don’t have to reinvent their sound and can continue to be there for anyone who would be helped by listening to their music. Also, I’d like to believe that Chester wouldn’t be narcissistic enough to want Linkin Park to stop existing simply because he is gone. I love Chester, but if this were the case, I would probably look at him differently and I don’t want that.
I never had a problem with her, I like the new song. She sounds good on it, but I simply can't stand hearing her try to sing the old songs. It just doesn't sound good at all. And with all fairness, I don't think anyone would be able to make those old songs sound good live except Chester. With that said, i JUST hope they will focus on performing the new songs once the new album comes out.
@@andreaseriksson4632 nailed papercut and bleed it out emptiness machine, lost aswell. some others were quite ok one step closer in the end. with her nerves and the emotions overwhelming her that she even was choking up/crying at some point. she did a really good job. maybe you should think about adjusting your ears soon.
I love it. I’ve been into Linkin Park since the band came onto the scene. I think this was a brilliant move. No one would accept a male singer coming in and taking Chester’s place. But this was smart. Bring in a badass female vocalist and keep the Linkin Park sound, and I can enjoy it without guilt. It’s fantastic!
@@ethanfullerton507 I am not agree, Chester is gone but the sound of LP is still here... this is a ture LP song, could even been written 10yrs ago for what I know (obviously is not)
@@juryfilanti How could it have been written 10 years ago without Chester? Emily is great, I genuinely like their sound, but saying this is anything close to Linkin Park is false. It’s a new band without him
so it took them 7 years to get to this point. if you want to know how this came about watch " linkin park interview zane lowe" they talk about how all this came about. i have been a Linkin Park fan for long time. this new singer is great and can sing her ass off. glad to see Linkin Park is back looking forward to the new sound and new songs.
Well covid delayed things by some years. They started talking before the pandemic around 2020 - 3 years after Chesters passing. Being Californians of course all covid related restrictions were abided to hence no collaboration happening during those times.
I watched the live reveal and I was impressed. Watched recordings of the first full concert in LA and she got better. Watched the second full concert in NY and she KILLED IT!!!! Emily gets better and better with every performance. I'm in love with Linkin Park 2.0!
I get why people have the, "It's not Linkin Park if it's not Chester" vibe, since he was the frontman and the emotional force. However, he was the last member added to the band, and behind-the-scenes from what I understand Mike and Joe were the original driving force (not to discount the others), and the band already had their sound and the messages/emotions they wanted to speak to. So in context, if those guys still feel like it's "their band", we gotta respect that.
Mike and joe were always the main driving force behind the band. Chester was responsible for how his vocals sounded. Mike and joe were responsible for nearly everything else.
Chester will never be replaced. LP 2.0 is honoring what was before but moving on to a new exciting chapter in their band history. I think the new song is FIRE and cannot wait for the album to come out!
I keep saying this is very similar to what happened with Alice In Chains after Layne Staley died. He had such a distinctive voice that nobody was going to match, but, after 4-5 years, Jerry and the rest of the band wanted to continue on. They brought in William Duvall, whose voice is similar enough to do justice to the older catalog with Layne, but different enough to allow them to create new music and continue on. Same situation here with Emily Armstrong and Linkin Park. She's not going to be a 100% Chester clone, but if she can hit 80% similar (which I think she does) and allows the band to continue writing new music, it works. I'm a fan. I think it works well.
It's still Linkin Park because they existed before (and now after) Bennington, even though Bennington did bring a unique signature to the group. But so does Emily, and she's not trying to replace him
Just an fyi, their name wasn't Linkin Park until AFTER Chester joined the band, so on that one point, your statement is incorrect. As for the rest, that all rings true.
Great reaction, man! Just my two cents though: The fact that the first half of the song (without Emily yet) made you go "Oh this is Linkin Park, they're back!" already answers the question of why they decided to carry on the band name. Chester's contribution to the band can never be overstated. But he's not the totality of what Linkin Park is. It's their unique dynamic as a group that makes the band. In fact, Chester had a side project with other musicians called Dead By Sunrise (you should react to them too btw cuz they're awesome) that did a similar heavy rock style, but it felt nothing like Linkin Park. Anyway, keep spreading the love. We are so f-ing back, LP fam! 🤘
I'm all in on this new chapter!!! Chester will NEVER be replaced, and they aren't trying to do that. Just trying to move on and forward, and I commend them for it! Emily Armstrong seems to be a great fit for the band, and she can WAIL!!! LOVE HER VOICE!!!
people need to understand that Linkin park was the birth child of mike and brad...chester was the last member to be added so they have the full rights to continue music with the same band name with new band members.
One of my favorite songs so far from recent times, so I'm happy for that. I think you can make the argument that this could have started as a different band, but after watching their interviews and seeing how naturally they came together (without a mission to restart Linkin Park), and the idea that I can potentially go to a concert and see Papercut and Numb performed live (any old LP catalog really) with a lot of OG members and a great singer, makes it for me personally a good choice that I'm happy with.
A great band's name will live forever. Band members come and go, sometimes in unfortunate ways. Why not try new things? RIP Chester, you'll always be one of THE BEST singers of all time, and welcome to the LP Family Emily!
Not like Chester... but you have to listen to Hybrid Theory, a Portuguese Linkin Park tribute band, not only does the lead singer, called Ivo Rosário, look like Chester, but he also sounds like him and the rest of the band are also similar to those in LP... :)
In my heart of hearts, I truly believe Chester is looking down with a smile on his face and saying to himself, they got it right! The amount of courage it takes to even think about filling Chester's shoes is off the charts! They got it right! RIP CHESTER. GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN!
This does not sound like Evanescence at all. It's closer to maybe Pretty Reckless or Halestorm. Mike himself said they don't want to replace Chester but rather write a completely new chapter for the band. For Chester there is already 17 years-worth of music to listen to out there. And even with Chester, the band was changing quite a lot with each new album they've put out.
As a longtime fan of the band, watching Emily perform 'Numb' brought me to tears. The music would've always lived on but for it to now take on a new life truly makes me emotional.
Start a new group? No way, the living need to keep living, and Linkin Park are living the dream. Chester, as great as he was, made his decision and that should not stop the living from moving on.
I am a fan since 2000. I have chesters voice painted on my memory for so long so i struggle to hear her singing the old stuff but I like her voice and i look forward to the new album with fresh and new linkin park songs. I love your reactions thank you
from what im getting from the lyrics is that they are calling out the "critics" before they release their new stuff (listen back to the opening verse with "critics" in mind, i think it makes sense). critics online, critics from fans, ect... they are probably getting ahead of the situation with this song and new album. I love it!
I think she's a great addition to the band and super happy they are back at it. She seems to get better the more shows they do - I've been watching the videos as they come out of each location of the tour. And i've never seen Mike looking so happy to be back on stage. His cheeks must be sore from smiling so much lol. PS...They dont need to change the name and Emily isn't replacing chester shes a new addition for this chapter of LP. Rock on kids.
When Peter Gabriel left Genesis, many believed it was the end of the band. But they pushed forward, with Phil Collins stepping in as lead singer-and they became even more extraordinary. I've been a devoted Linkin Park fan since 2001, and no one can ever replace Chester. But I believe he wouldn't have wanted the band to stop. I'm confident he'd give his full support to Emily. We owe it to her, and to ourselves, to view things with an open mind and give her the chance she truly deserves. We need to look with better eyes.
IMO bands changing members happen, including lead singers. I understand that Chester was considered a core element of LP but this still feels completely LP to me. Let them move on to the next chapter.
I love that Mike and the guys get to move forward. I know Emily has had a few bumps so far but I know she has released a statement on those issues. I honestly think she has a lot of potential and I am so happy that we get new LP so a group that meant so much to Mike and Chester and the rest of the guys too gets to move on past the grief. She is never going to be Chester so we have to move on. I am excited to see how this goes.
*Well, let me ask you this. Mike Shinoda is just as important and just as much a part of Linkin Park as Chester was. If (God forbid) Mike was no longer with us and Chester was and they kept the name but brought someone else in where Mike used to be, would you be asking the same question? Or would it just make sense that it's still Linkin Park so why would they change their name? If they were to change their name, they would also have to come up with a whole new playlist of original songs to separate themselves from their past songs. That would be a shame. These guys put their blood sweat and tears into this group and adding a new person doesn't suddenly change that. They're still Linkin Park... they'll always be Linkin Park.*
Its understandable to think chester was Linkin Park in general, especially when you're starting to listen. He was a huge part definitely and i was so sad when we lost him. But Mike was the main producer of most of the songs you hear, honestly without him you wouldn't get the Linkin Park music you've heard. However, They all made LP ... LP. I think Mike wanted to let us know that Linkin Park won't be how it used to be but like a Pheonix, he wants it to be reborn from the ashes. My perspective of why they wanted LP to stay LP
I am glad they didn't go with a male vocalist because they definitely would have been compared to Chester which they're not trying to replace because he can never be replaced. RIP Chester and I think he would want them to carry on. It took them a little over 7 years to get here and I totally trust Mike's decision so it's not a replacing of Chester it's just a New Era and Emily really fits well with the band.
Changing the name wouldn’t have been the right move. Now you have to understand that Emily(new singer) isn’t here to replace Chester it’s impossible. This is a new chapter for Linkin Park the band has had time to mourn. Now it’s time to for the band to continue and help a new generation through difficult times like Chester did with the previous generation.
I get your point and respect your opinion, but it's not as simple as saying "why didn't they just make a new band". As Chester himself once said "We'd like to think that our music will always be bigger than any one of our individual personalities." Chester wasn't a founder of LP and in some way they are paying their respects to Chester and Rob (the drummer who also left) by keeping their name and songs alive. Carrying their legacy on. As a long term fan, I am just happy that Mike, Brad, Joe and Dave are finally smiling again on their live shows and my Linkin park didn't die along with it's famous lead singer, may he rest in peace. For many of us, it's a band that carried us through hard times in our lives and that's an emotional aspect newer LP enjoyers wouldn't understand, no offense.
Nah you trippin!!!! Totally giving linkin park vibes. This singer is a perfect fit for the next phase of linkin park. Bring on the new album. Chester can never be replaced and lives on with the band 🫶🏾🫶🏾
The question is always if a band should continue after the singer passes away... For AC/DC, it was the right decision to carry on w/ Brian Johnson after the death of original singer Bon Scott, even though they sounded different. Other bands have carried on after the deaths of their iconic singers: Stone Temple Pilots have current singer Jeff Gutt after parting ways w/ singer Scott Weiland, who passed away in 2015... Drowning Pool carried on after the 2002 death of vocalist Dave Williams; they currently have vocalist Ryan McCombs... Alice in Chains are currently active since 2006 w/ singer William DuVall after the death of singer Layne Staley in 2002... Warrant parted ways w/ singer Jani Lane, who passed away in 2011; they now have Robert Mason on vocals... Great White parted ways w/ singer Jack Russell in 2012 (He passed away in 2024) and are currently w/ singer Brett Carlisle Polish extreme metallers Decapitated reformed in 2009 after a tragic accident that killed drummer Vitek and put vocalist Covan (who replaced original vocalist Sauron) in a vegetative state in 2007; Rafa Piotrowski (vocals) joined and Decapitated carried on... etc. etc. However, there r bands who could not replace their iconic vocalists and disbanded... Nirvana after the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994... The band Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath w/ singer Ronnie James Dio) ended in 2010 after the death of singer Ronnie James Dio... Type O Negative ended in 2010 after the death of vocalist/ bassist/ songwriter Peter Steele ... Death (the band) ended after the passing of Chuck Schuldiner (vocals/ guitar) in 2001 ... Punk rockers Snot could not replace late vocalist Lynn Strait (they did try)... Blind Melon disbanded after the death of singer Shannon Hoon in 1995 ... INXS tried to replace singer Michael Hutchence after his death in 1997; they disbanded in 2012... Soundgarden has effectively ended after the death of singer Chris Cornell in 2017... The Cranberries disbanded after the death of singer Dolores O' Riordan in 2018. It's all a matter of who can (or who are willing) carry on w/ the band.
6:39 they don’t need to change their name. So many bands didn’t change their name after their lead singer died, including ACDC, Queen, INXS, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. You are judging too quickly. You are also deciding that she sounds like Evanescence, like that’s a bad thing? They sing about similar topics. That said, Amy Lee is a godly singer, so comparison is high praise. I am just not sure if you would be saying stuff like this if they hadn’t decided to get a female singer.
I personally love this. They deserve to do what they love to do. They have taken a long time to process the loss of Chester. Emily deserves to be a part of this. I don’t care about the drama. She posted her response and I accept it. Time to move on. I preordered the album, looking forward to listening to it all.
There are several great bands that I loved in their original form but vastly preferred with their second lead vocalist: Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Van Halen. I think this may be another one. I respected LP’s talent, but could never really get into them. I’ve had this song on repeat.
Emily is a wonderful gem that shines even brighter with every live performance on the stage. Pure overflowing energy, charisma, high spirits, sense of humour and last but not least the most unusual voice. She's got a true, uncanny talent to sing in variety of styles and tones on a wide range in her own way (I did a background check on the band she used to sing for years which is named Dead Sara and she kills it all). Obviously Chester will never be replaced and his legacy will live on, nevertheless I'm incredibly fulfilled and excited with LP's new direction for the future. I can't wait for more!
"tired of being who you want me to be: - Numb 2003 "Gave up who I am for who you wanted me to be" Emptiness Machine 2024 The more things change the more they stay the same.
Some of the lyrics for Emptiness Machine are from songs from Hybrid Theory and Meteora songs. So they are just recycling old lyrics that were written by Mike and Chester together.
You can ask why Black Sabbath didnt change their name when Dio became their singer or any band that changed singers like Van Halen? They didnt need to change names neither does Linkin Park!! I like their new song better then anything on their last 2 albums
You know, when I found out they had a new singer I was very emotional. Because of that I think, after listening to the live version of the song for the first time I was on the fence about it. But after watching the music video, listening to the 1hr interview they did to talk about their plans and introduce new band members, and listening to the song on repeat for a couple hours on Spotify, its grown on me. I'm happy that they're able to put out more music, and I'll be buying the album and blasting it out my car stereo for everyone to enjoy! Haha.
I was skeptical at first. Chester is not someone you can replace and I've been of one mind here that Linkin Park should just disband and we can move on. I have never been more happy to be wrong in my entire life. Emily is great. Her voice is great she rocks and she's a perfect fit for Linkin Park. She's not Chester but those are shoes you just can't fill and its unrealistic to expect her to. The fact they got a woman tells me they never intended to try and replace Chester. This just a new chapter for the band and I for one am very excited to see where its heading.
Did people say that Apple should change its name when Steve Jobs passed away or request the Chicago Bulls change the teams name when Jordan lretired either time. I respectfully disagree with those who say that Linkin Park should have come up with a different name. They aren't just a band they are a brand, and I highly doubt Chester would want the band to face any repercussions for his tragic decision.
I think this was the best way to go. If they had tried to get a male singer that tried to sound like Chester it would have been a huge mistake. The more I listen to it the morebI like it. Still it sounds like an LP song to me. Mike founded the group. Chester replaced the original singer and of course killed it. She is not a replacement. She is a co-vocalist with Mike. I'm excited for a new era and keeping an open mind for the rest of the album.
I put the singer replacement to the Nightwish replacement singers. They did what they had to do to continue making music to be complete. It's not replacing a singer to make money, but to continue doing what they love. I'm here for the new music as it's not just 1 person who makes a band, but everyone as a whole making music and enjoying what you love. I'm ready to see what this new venture of Linkin Park has to give us.
I LOVE the new song and I think Emily sounds great on it! I can't wait for the rest of the album to be released. The song feels like a pretty classic Linkin' Park song to me (without Chester, of course). I have to say that I'm lukewarm so far on hearing the old songs with Emily singing Chester's part. I think she'll get there and find her voice with those eventually. I'm really excited for this new incarnation of Linkin Park.
Loved Chester, now loving Emily. LP was never just Chester and the whole group meant more to their fans than just the music. Makes sense to keep the name. The music is still obviously identifiable as LP. Amy Lee (Evanescence), could not do what Emily Armstrong does (Not enough rasp/gravel).
It's not about erasing the past and changing the band name, its about keeping the legacy alive. The part of Chester is filled by us, the fans, not Emily. Emily's part is to help carry it by performing and see the band live, get new songs, and continue the message of what "Linkin Park" is all about so that new fans can also rediscover Chester and keep his memory alive in a way. It is a difficult decision for the band because most of them want to continue making music, but I feel they found the right balance to it. I believe Chester would want them to continue as well...
I'm going to disagree with BP. Linkin Park is not just Chester, and never was. They are a band. It's a group of musicians and its up to them to decide what's best for the band. They did amazing tributes for Chester. I think they keep his memory alive by continuing on with new members. Also, from a financial standpoint, why would they start over with a new band name when they already have a platform? Liniin Park is a recognized band. It has 22.2M followers. Mike Shinoda had a solo career after Chester's death. His TH-cam channel has 920k followers over a 6 year span. It's easy to say change the band name, but there is more to consider.
When gonna do people understand that Linkin Park never was Chester‘s Band. He wasn’t even an OG founder from this band. They always got a different sound with every album. So don’t be disrespectful and say they should change their name. That’s ridiculous.
Love this new song, so happy Linkin Park is back going into a new chapter . I love Emily she is amazing! I have to admit that when she sings the songs Chester sang and put his everything into them it makes me cry. I guess that's my own unresolved grief after being a fan since day 1 and still listen to their music daily. A lot of fans love this so much yet it's bittersweet at the same time. The new album drops November 15th so excited for that and they are actually on a world tour right now. I think it's good they kept their LP name for the band because throughout their entire career they changed up their sound every album and I loved that and many fans loved it but wow there are some haters that can be really disrespectful. Everyone should have a right to their opinion, but like you said hate isn't cool. Many are hating on the new vocalist, Emily and it has been crazy on social media the hate coming her way. Someone just hours after they revealed her to the world someone dug up some dirt on her and that caused more hate among a lot of fans. First it's a fact she is a scientologist and life long friends with a convicted {g}rapist Danny Masterson. She put out a statement about that and said she was fooled and doesn't have any contact with him any longer and does not condone abuse against women. There's so much more and it's all over social media if you want to read about it but I try to stay clear of all of that type of stuff. I loved your reaction!!! Love this channel!!! #makechesterproud🤍🤍🤍
Emily is a great new member who will never replace Chester. She doesn't have to! It took the Band 7 years to finally make their next step. Fans should follow and walk this step together with them! Chester will always be a part of the Band and always will be in their and our hearts. This is a new beginning for them and us! And I'm all in for it. I love her voice and I can't wait for the album! I've been listening to LP my whole life, I got a small LP Tattoo as well, they helped me out through tough times. This song gives me the same vibes and I got goosebumps from the first moment I heard Emilys voice.
ever since Chesters passing, I have had a list in my head for IF they would return and keep going. I have never known what is on that list, but she checked all the boxes when I heard her the first time. she will only get better on the old stuff the more she gets to sing them.
I think I understand what you mean. Because they still have the old band name with the new singer, Chester is still floating in the background for me. And so perhaps there is unnecessary pressure for them to live up to him!? I hope that my statement comes across correctly, as I have to rely on Google Translate. :D
Firstly I didn't look at any comments but while in the shower I had some thoughts what does Queen Lynyrd Skynyrd AC/DC Alice in Chains have in common with Linkin Park yes they are all iconic bands but they all didn't change your name when there's singer died
Linkin Park is still Linkin Park without Chester, saying so Is a disservice to the other bandmates. It’s originated with Mike and Joe, I stand with whatever Mike wants. I’ll always support LP
AC/DC survived as AC/DC... Lynyrd Skynyrd survived....after both losing their frontmen to death. Pink Floyd retained their name after Syd and Roger left the band... see Van Halen, same deal. LP was ALL of them... not just Chester. All those years of dedication was by all the members and they absolutely have the right if not the duty to retain the name and history. (RIP Chester)... Not for me to decide, that is up to THEM. Rock on LP... great choice in Emily !!!!
LOVE the new Vocalist.... she's great and I'm excited to hear the full album. This song IS Linkin Park.... everything about it. The music, the composition, the emotion... NO, she's not Chester, she doesn't sound exactly like him... but how creepy would that be if she did? - People seem to forget that AC/DC also released 7 albums before Bon Scott died.... and at the time everyone said Brian Johnson could never replace Bon Scott. Now decades later, Brian is the voice most people associate with AC/DC Also worth noting... they replaced Bon in 2 months.... they didn't wait 7 years like linkin park - This new incarnation didn't start as "new linkin park", that's important to note..... but as they recorded more and more songs for what would eventually be the "From Zero" album.... Mike, Joe, Brad, etc... all realized it WAS linkin park, and calling it anything else would be dishonest.
Linkin Park has always said they're an alternative rock group and they'll always be changing their sound. Hence why every album is so unique. A lot of people hate Emily taking the lead vocalist spot, but the truth is that putting her in literally is about making good music that isn't the same as before. The otherside of this is that Linkin park also now opens up more options for collaborations like they did with Jay-Z.
One love my dude ❤ There's always going to be a backlash, R.I.P. Chester ❤ Life moves on my family, birth, death and taxes. We all have that in common! We have more in common than divides us ❤❤❤❤❤. They came back correctly and hard with complete respect ❤❤❤
Having gone back and looked at a lot of Emily’s previous work she is an incredible talent, and so unique. The guys made the right choice with her, the more time they spend together the better they’re gonna get.
Mike talked about considering renaming the band, but with Emily and Collin and the stuff they were writing together felt and sounded to him like Linkin Park. So they kept the name. There’s a few Chester copycats out there that can sound “close”, like the dude in the tribute band Hybrid Theory. But to me, it would feel sorta cheap. They needed a new start, and Emily is giving that to them and I’m here for it 🤘🏻
I'm conflicted....I'm all for them moving forward and making new music, I just think I would have a hard time listening to her performing all of the old songs that belong to Chester.... But I'm 💯 open to whatever new music they got coming!
Totally Agree! For anyone to try and compare this to other bands who replaced the lead is Misguided. Chester was in a League of his Own, Unique in Some Ways that are indescribable. The closest example to Chester giving us All the Gift of EVERY Aspect of Himself and then Some with range, gutteralness ect... is Lane Staley. Emily has her own style and attempting to go where No-one can with Chester's Song's IMHO doe's them Both a Disservice.
The song absolutely has the Linkin Park DNA... the instruments are LP, the voice of Mike is LP, the songwriting is LP, even 4 of the 6 founding members are there (except Mark Wakefield as lead singer and Rob Bourdon on drums... Chester was not a founding member... but who cares). The point is, if they had released this song under a different band name everyone would be wondering.... they sound like LP, 0.66% it's LP.... why didn't they keep the name?
I'm an original long term Linkin Park fan and I one hundred percent agree with you Buddy! I've actually heard her do my favorite Linkin Park song and she is good but she can't do some of the things he could. I will love the new songs as always but I will always miss Chester. ❤
Also seeing how it was mike and brads creation why change the name to begin with? Makes zero sense lol
They are not replacing Chester as he can't come back. They are just moving on, which is a tribute to him if you ask me by carrying on.
Exactly. They will be fine. She sounds great IMO. Anyone thinking it's disrespectful or that they should change their name is just ignorant. IMO. Chester was depressed and unfortunately didn't win his battle. It was sad but also his choice. The rest of the band shouldn't have to change from Chester's choice
My thoughts exactly. Emily's got a great voice, and it still sounds like LP. Which I'm so happy about.
Lol chester will always be remembered as mike pretty much said live we all carry on chesters voice that he is basically within us
There is no replacing Chester, but I think she is awesome and would make him proud.
I think the fact that they chose a female lead just proves that they know Chester can never be replaced...I think it was smart and she has a good voice
100% agree but I wish she wouldn't try and force the screams Chester would do and maybe find something more natural for her that sounds stronger.
Why wouldn't they keep their band name?
this
An average, uninformed person is going to assume it was Chester's band, because he was 1.
@@reizig The problem is Cheester Fans don´t want to hear that fact and now think about which People are hate Emily! The same!
yeah, the argument that they should change the name is just bizarre to me.
More like 3.5. Brad isn't going to tour anymore.
Mike wrote and produced 90% of LP, The Band is more than 1 person, but they grieved and I am happy they have an new chapter. So happy they are back.
Shes not him, but i feel him in her energy. Had me in tears

yeah I see that one maybe the spirit of Chester told Mike subconsciously to give her a chance
I couldn't agree more! First time I saw the new song, I was blown away. I felt Chester in her energy as well.

Emily is no joke. 🔥🔥🔥
Her performance of Crawling completely sold me on her, and seeing clips from the New York show, as she gets more comfortable she gets even better. Her scream during faint was absolutely insane.
Im going to find crawling❤
I wasn't quite convinced with Crawling at first tbh. For me, One Step Closer, In The End, Numb, and Faint did the trick during the livestream. And they have a great chemistry on stage.
Saying “Hey Mike, you should change your project’s name and perform LP songs under that new name” sounds crazy.
I’ve been to the NYC concert and you have no idea of the catharsis they are having right now. The vibe was just amazing.
Literally half the band is gone, they're keeping it for the money.
While Chester is IMO one of the top rock vocalist of all time Mike has always been the creative force behind LP and the one who really drove their sound and evolution through the years
Completely agree 👍🏼
Well said 👍
These are facts, people are trippin. Plus I just saw them in Brooklyn and they were amazing!
I disagree.
Whole new album is Fire. Love and Respect. RIP CHESTER
I like it. I’m glad they are still making ART! They are not replacing Chester. They’re just onto a new chapter.
I'd agree if they didn't have her perform Chester's songs live.

New era for LP. Thank God they are back!
This group is back and is killing it, but LP is gone, Chester is gone. The same way Alice In Chains are still playing but without Layne, AIC is gone.

so it took them 7 years to get to this point. if you want to know how this came about watch " linkin park interview zane lowe" they talk about how all this came about. i have been a Linkin Park fan for long time. this new singer is great and can sing her ass off. glad to see Linkin Park is back looking forward to the new sound and new songs.
Well covid delayed things by some years. They started talking before the pandemic around 2020 - 3 years after Chesters passing. Being Californians of course all covid related restrictions were abided to hence no collaboration happening during those times.
@@nougatbitz covid cant take all the blam. lol Mike was still putting out tunes during this time.
I watched the live reveal and I was impressed. Watched recordings of the first full concert in LA and she got better. Watched the second full concert in NY and she KILLED IT!!!! Emily gets better and better with every performance. I'm in love with Linkin Park 2.0!
She is awsome! This song is cool and she is doing the old one's good🤟
I get why people have the, "It's not Linkin Park if it's not Chester" vibe, since he was the frontman and the emotional force.
We are so back!
This girl is from Dead Sara ... one of my favorite bands... I think she kills this.
Awesome song , Emily is 🔥.. Chester always in our ❤️.. Linking park 2.0 is awesome.
They were looking at changing the name but after Mike heard her vocals on the tracks he thought "This feels like a Linkin Park song"
I don’t think anyone will sound like Chester. So they made a good choice to me.
Not like Chester... but you have to listen to Hybrid Theory, a Portuguese Linkin Park tribute band, not only does the lead singer, called Ivo Rosário, look like Chester, but he also sounds like him and the rest of the band are also similar to those in LP... :)
@@carlaleao8755 i don't think they need someone like chester
In my heart of hearts, I truly believe Chester is looking down with a smile on his face and saying to himself, they got it right! The amount of courage it takes to even think about filling Chester's shoes is off the charts! They got it right! RIP CHESTER. GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN!
The new album is “From Zero” almost like a callback to to the bands original name which was Xero
The show must go on
Have been anticipating your reaction for a week now!
As Chester himself once said "We'd like to think that our music will always be bigger than any one of our individual personalities."
Chester wasn't a founder of LP and in some way they are paying their respects to Chester and Rob (the drummer who also left) by keeping their name and songs alive.
Other bands have carried on after the deaths of their iconic singers:
Stone Temple Pilots have current singer Jeff Gutt after parting ways w/ singer Scott Weiland, who passed away in 2015... Great White parted ways w/ singer Jack Russell in 2012 (He passed away in 2024) and are currently w/ singer Brett Carlisle
Polish extreme metallers Decapitated reformed in 2009 after a tragic accident that killed drummer Vitek and put vocalist Covan (who replaced original vocalist Sauron) in a vegetative state in 2007; Rafa Piotrowski (vocals) joined and Decapitated carried on... etc.
@SleeplessMomma I also pre ordered the album in all my excitement can't wait.

The answer to your question is simple bro: it's their band too. There aren't replacing Chaz, that's the point.
Great Reaction!
This song is so catchy, most catchiest song i have heard in forever❤
I feel the same about the band name but it is what it is. She is friken awesome🎉
Zane Lowe (Apple Music) interview with the entire band on the LP channel explains it all.
Your reactions are REAL! I respect you and your channel. Love your content, bro. 40's all the way!
I think she is awesome. She isn’t trying to take Chester’s place, they are just continuing the band in a new direction
Amy Lee has no rasp/scream anywhere near Emily. nor does Emily have the power of Amy. imo. both great in their own rights.
Her vocals live are just as good
wait till u hear heavy is the crown and wait till you hear her do the old tunes,,,
I think I understand what you mean.
Why do you all compare peaches to bananas
None of those bands replaced their singer with female vocalist
@@2-1inffwa97why does it matter if it's a male or female vocalist? 😂
@@BacardiRaZz90 No one said it mattered 🤷🏽 But his comparison was laughable
@@2-1inffwa97 i hope youre into guys if you dont like females. otherwise you gonna have a really tough life :D
@@2-1inffwa97 mine? xD I never did any comparsion lol
LOVE the new Vocalist.... she's great and I'm excited to hear the full album.
This song IS Linkin Park.... everything about it. The music, the composition, the emotion...
NO, she's not Chester, she doesn't sound exactly like him... but how creepy would that be if she did?

People seem to forget that AC/DC also released 7 albums before Bon Scott died.... and at the time everyone said Brian Johnson could never replace Bon Scott.
Now decades later, Brian is the voice most people associate with AC/DC
Also worth noting... they replaced Bon in 2 months.... they didn't wait 7 years like linkin park
-
This new incarnation didn't start as "new linkin park", that's important to note..... but as they recorded more and more songs for what would eventually be the "From Zero" album....
One love my dude ❤
There's always going to be a backlash, R.I.P. Chester ❤
Life moves on my family, birth, death and taxes.
They needed a new start, and Emily is giving that to them and I’m here for it 🤘🏻
Come on! This is Linkin Park, not Evanescence. Changing the name would have been fucking stupid and we’d all have lost out.
For me, it will take time to hear her voice on classics. Original stuff I like a LOT.
This is a new chapter to Linkin Park. Great song, Emily is an awesome singer for this genre.
I can't get this song out of my head!!! FIRE!!! Love her voice!
Definitely spot on! That's a good point as well. How would people have reacted if they had changed their name?
I'm an original long term Linkin Park fan and I one hundred percent agree with you Buddy! I've actually heard her do my favorite Linkin Park song and she is good but she can't do some of the things he could. I will love the new songs as always but I will always miss Chester. ❤
