The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Mitzi said the air conditioning on that stage in Miami was not working well and it was brutally hot under those lights. She is one of the all time greats in showbusiness.

Wow~!...What an energetic, fabulous performance. Sung with verve, dynamics, intensity and sweat. The backup singer/dancers were solid too. Bravo~!

Wow, I really like her clarity of voice and her positive energy.
A pretty lady. I had heard of Mitzi, but I *had* only *seen* (used with a verb) her in the Western with Jeffrey Hunter, "The Young Texans" (good movie)
Those horns sound so great, "Live Muscians that aren't Sound Engineered into a vacume". A delicious sound.

@@MostlyBrenda Exactly, The Beatles were on the previous week, so everybody knew exactly how it would go- They would open and close and in between were the usual variety of acts. No surprise really to see Mitzi on.

I've been watching all of Mitzi's performances on TH-cam. There is another video of them doing Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho/When The Saints Go Marching in, obviously the same night, but there are slight differences in her movements and in one of them one of the guys drops his hat. Why were the two different performances taped? Both are great, just very small differences. Maybe one was live for the East Coast and the other was live for the West Coast? Even sweating like pigs MItzi and the guys give 110%.

I noticed that too, just today. Different performances but both great. I noticed because her hair is styled differently. The guys are the best and so, of course, is Mitzi. Thank you Justin for this

I adore Mitzi, and she's the one and only Nellie Forbush - but this is the worst. It's hysterical and cheap. She's way better than this campfest.

I'm a big fan of hers but .... this stunk and did not show her off to her best advantage. She's a far better dancer than singer, so where was the dancing. She was off key on many notes and too strident on many others. She was magical in her "De-Lovely" number with Donald O'Connor in the 50'sfilm version of Anything Goes. For her first performance on the Sullivan, she should have killed it with something like. I think she was trying too hard to look "contemporary."

Well, this boomer watched this only because the Beatles were on the same
show. And Mitzi wasn't a boomer, nor was Ed Sullivan, so who are you mad at?
