Billy is one of the true gentlemen in the hobby. I first encountered him on the magazine forums…always there with an informed answer to questions, and with inspiring builds.
Doug, Great interview with Billy, And Billy, I'm getting into the 1/64 scale also, Mostly Corvettes and Miata's. I've been watching many u-tube videos on restoring 1/64 diecast.
Man you really have to appreciate billys attention to detail and how much time and research he’s put into nascar alone. That’s a hell of a feat he’s gonna pull off once he’s done with them all!
I have a friend in Ontario,Canada as i'am as well & my buddy has been building 1/24th scale Canadian "Cascar Super Series" & the "Cascar Sportsman Series" cars."Cascar" was basically Canada's version of the American Nascar Cup & Nascar Exfinity series but they ran a fiberglass body & less horse power engines among other differences but to the average fan they just looked like our American neighbors Nascar Cup & Exfinity series cars. "Cascar" had a lot of great sponsors as well like Nascar Cup & Exfinity has. He buys Nascar Cup & Exfinity Series model kits both plastic model builds or the die cast cars in which he just sands down the die cast car body & prints out the decals for the "Cascar" model builds & for the plastic model builds he obviously glues them together & prints out the decals & he's done some amazing work!
I have known Billy for many many years. I have seen his builds go from OK to very nice. I also spotted a few of my enngwen Decals on his builds. We last met in person at the NNL NJ....and needless to say at the die cast show the next day! thx
Thanks for this, Doug. Billy is a great guy and certainly a maven of NASCAR knowledge. And I always learn something from your videos. This time I've learned where his moniker came from!
damn billy makes me wanna go out buy and build my own lol his energy and passion of building let alone the love and happiness that he finds in nascar is just beautiful!
I have known Billy from message boards, and now actually helping him and his friend Ricky with some decals in 1/64 scale, so I will get some cars completed for him as well as a few other 1/64 fans.
Either this guy has a lot of time on his hands or he's been building model NASCARs since he was like 5 or 10 years old to have that many that's a lot of man hours of sitting there building these cars amazing work man beautiful beautiful paint and beautiful cars hopefully one day one of my plastic models will look as good as yours I got them looking decent but not show quality that like you
Man I wish this man would build a beautiful pinto wagon nascar I did one and it looks amazing even a pinto dirt track wagon car with super latemodel dirt tires on it and huge flares and decking inside of it and also a gremlin NASCAR and a dirt latemodel style gremlin and asphalt latemodel gremlin and the pinto wagon. I use to race a Ford pinto coupe on asphalt oval as a ministock turning 9200 rpms on that tiny little ford 2.3 motor lol it was crazzy fast and fun
Great vid! Man - to build one of every number Nascar, in two scales....whew! Gonna need some serious display areas, but actually is a good goal. Hope he gets there.
Storage space is the biggest issue, no way I can display them all at one time. Looking through my photo gallery is the only way I can do it all at once.
I guarantee you it took him a good year to build that number eight Dale Jr camo car. It takes me about 4 months to build one NASCAR 124 scale kit especially early 2000s kits those type of cars cuz they're so detailed it's crazy and it takes a lot of time to get the paint correct as in the tape lines because you need the tape lines to match the colors when they transfer from one color to the other and stuff like that so it looks correct cuz stripes going across hoods and down the sides need to be correct it's very easy to get it all messed up and I love using enamel paint they take forever to dry because the nail just gives it that really deep shine to it if you spray it right and all I use is old model Masters enamle spray cans I got them on sale for 25 cents a can about 6 months ago so I got 423 colors and about 120 different types of gloss clears with pearls and stuff in it as well so I got plenty of paints and actually the enamels from the old model Master cans I got are actually very beautiful and flawless with no wet sanding needed as long as you spray it correctly what I mean spring it correctly is spring a medium coat first where it's as wet as you can get it before it starts to run and that's how I spray every single body and I've never had the wet sand unless I'm going to a show cuz I never get orange peel by doing that. But this guy is a master man his cars are beautiful lots of work in those tape lines and painting and I think he even lowers the cars and gives them the correct stance like they're on the track and or sitting still in the pits because sometimes the kits are a little too high
And polishing is a kill in it's self once you learn how to spray paint and clear where it lays flat even smooth and not go dry or to wet the less sanding you gotta do before polishing, I got a huge collection of racing champions cars from the 90s I was born in 92 and I have 945 single 1:64 scale diecast cup cars nation wide and truck series and wheelen modified series. Idk how you build 1/64 die casts cuse you can't buy lots like you do with plastic revelle type kits in 1:24 scale. But also salvino's Jr is coming out with body panels like front bumper covers and rear bumper covers and side skirts and stuff so you can take regular Monte Carlo kits from the '80s and different other kids that are supposed to be on the street and they're not NASCAR kits and you can turn that body into a NASCAR so that way you can get a cheap kit for like a street rod or something and use just that body because it's the same body you need for a cup kit you can buy the little 20R kit from hobby lobby and turn that body into the period correct cup car that you need with all those parts that they're coming out with
Y'all just keep a look out at luka cee he has his own company now making resin body panels to build period correct NASCARs andake it easier for us who like to build cars for shows and have it period correct including how the bumper covers and fender Bubble and even fender flares for each style make brand and era of nascar
This guys enthusiasm is contagious ! Great video and great guy
Thank you!
That was so cool! Thank you so much for doing a video on me!
Glad you like it! Thanks for the for sharing your milestone with us!
That's what I call modeling with a passion.
It really is, I get more enjoyment out of building than pretty much anything else.
Billy is rad! I’m in multiple Facebook groups with him. Nice guy!
Thanks! I recognize your name from the groups
As a hotwheels collector I can appreciate the small scale those might way harder to do pretty sweet
It can be challenging especially when I have to do the contingencies individually.

Cool! I hope you bring them to a meeting at some point.
Been a big fan of Billy's work for many years.
This guy truly puts a smile on my face as a nascar fan and collector 😊
Again - GREAT video. It was nice "getting to know" El Camino Billy! I love the fact that he models a lot of the lesser-known drivers!
Thanks! I am working on building as many drivers as possible.

Well I don't think I'll ever be done :) there are thousands of cars to build. Run out of money is more likely, lol!
@@ElCaminoBilly I hear ya there man! Just like a project car they’ll never be done! And yes just like any hobby money is always an issue hahaha
Man this guy has a wealth of knowledge. Hope to meet him someday….
Thank you! I do attend many model shows in the northeast US and hoping to expand to further shows at some point.
Great interview. What an encyclopedia of NASCAR information!!!!! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
You're now inspiring me to go out to my workbench and start building all the NASCAR kits I got and making them all show quality
Fun video Doug! I first met Billy in Toledo in 05. Billy is a fun guy and indeed a wealth of knowledge on sock car racing!
Dang 2005 already? Where does the time go?!
