Don't listen to dude you suppose to turn your bass boost up and turn your bass of on your head I noticed when u use your head for bass it causes a lot of distortion
Ah man. This brings back memories. I remember in high school I had one of my first systems I put in. Cvr 12s. I was showing it to my buddy and I remember saying this, “Oh, you think that was loud?? Just wait til I turn up this bass boost.” Haha. Ah the younger me lol.
Because a lot of guys tune their amp wrong when actually the radio head unit has the worst clipping points. 🤣🤷♂️ if you tune every thing and never turn your head unit volume level to high to the clipping points you should have no problem turning everything else up and just get a bass knob for your amp and there's your gain for your amp and speaker right up front with you. 👍 my radio clips and max out at levels 34 and up on the volume so I set my amps and everything at my head unit volume at 25-32 max, and any song and any type of music plays clear and clean on my system. 👍 remember your system is only gonna sound as good as your volume control and levels on your head unit, if your head unit clips everything wired to it is gonna clip. 🤷♂️👍
I believe it’s a feature that if the manufacturer takes it away, they’ll lose more potential buyers than leaving it there, because the myths of it’s value persist.
@@nuwavee4eva that's completely wrong. If you have your bass boost down and you don't have bass you better check your install, cuz something is jacked jp
Thanks for the vid I had no idea being a newbie in the game this was a thing and is starting to help me understand how to achieve the sound I’ve been chasing! I appreciate you taking the time to think to let us know in a vid!
The main use for bass boost is for head units and LOC's that don't provide enough pre-out (RCA) voltage. For example: Your head unit full tilt only puts out .4V at 40hz, but your amp only accepts .5V or higher, you can use the bass boost on the amp or head unit to amplify that .4V to get your desired gain on the amp. I've used it many times setting up systems with trash headunits because people don't want to replace them. My buddies JVC head unit would do .4V, with the gain maxed you would only get 15V on the speaker outputs on his Skar RP2k, when we set it to 6db bass boost, it was able to get to the desired 44.7V easily at around 3/4 gain with a clean wave, if the amp is made by a reputable company, they do a good job of keeping the wave relatively clean in that situation. But I HIGHLY recommend having an o-scope, because the signal can easily clip.
same i got 12x1 evl sub with 1500d mono skar amp along with kit i mean im thinking to turn on db its off so far i feel like 6 db resonable but 12 no no no , mine so far at 0 but i feel like when i turn on 6 db my hair start flyin in car lol i still dont get it man how this thing work but best on car audio world they usually turn off db unless competition let the windows shake for couple minute 😂😂
can you help me please? I have 2 12” skar sdr with a rp1200. it’s in a 2018 charger with the stock touch screen radio. i have the amp bass boost off but i like it better set in the middle at 6db, and when it’s at 12 it’s just too much. is it okay to do that or no? thank u
I noticed a MASSIVE difference in the bass extension and clarity of the bass after I set my bass boost to the 12 o'clock. I have a 12 year old MTX RFL600D that I bought for my first car and it plus a single 12" would vibrate my mirror down with no bass boost (but I used the remote level so I guess I did technically) Years have passed and this amp has been in 2 other vehicles And I lost the remote level control. No matter what I did to the head unit I could never replicate the performance from my first system. Now its +6db and sounds as good as I remember. This amp has no business living this long, but it just eats up the power.
@@sethglenn9022 unplugging or removing a bass knob is the same as it being turned all the way up.. So the function of the knob is only to turn the amp down, never to turn it up. The reason your now at +6db bass boost is just like every other basshead you want more over time and thus risk your equipment to get it.
I had to go back to your video watch it again to get it to my head to turn the bass boost off it was up a little bit as I didn't notice but I noticed it when I listen to it so I watched your video again finally got it through my head thanks again man you solved my problem
best video ever. others could really learn how to make good videos by watching this. DIRECT to the point, no BS, and video goes on if you want more info. Well done my man.,
Not everyone listens to their system at volume all the time. When I do I turn the volume up I turn my boost down. With just everyday driving my system sounds great with the boost at halfway. Of course with my gain set right.
Bass boost is actually very useful for what it is intended for. It increases gain at very specific and limited frequencies. If you are willing to give up some amplitude on all other bass frequencies in order to increase amplitude for the specific bass boost frequency then by all means use it. It will give you increased bass for that limited frequency range. However, most people wouldn’t want the very peaky bass response that bass boost gives you. Therefore, they would turn this setting off. If you are going to utilize bass boost then you absolutely MUST set your gains with the bass boost turned on.
This, plus I could see someone using this in competition (if allowed) and if they have a box that is designed to play that center frequency very well. 🤷🏻♂️
Can i chime in as a music producer. We typically cut in the bass area. Like in all actuality before mastering we cut the bass to about -9db. To allow for headroom. Because the most energy is in the bass spectrum. So really you can set your bass to negative whatever. Then adjust your bass boost. You're leaving out most hu just have bass mid highs. That's alot of bass spectrum to control with just bass level. To tell you something about eq... there is actually sub bass, bass, low mids mid high and highs. Your SUB frequencies are roughly 30-80. Sub frequencies are felt n more then heard.
A an audio engineer, we use thousands of dollars in equipment and acoustic treatments to deliver the most accurate representation of what the sound is in the studio as we can. This includes ACCURATE and flat low frequency response, usually to below 30hz depending on the music. You should try to equalize that 40hz peak down to as close to flat as you can recognizing that the car structure is causing it to peak artificially. This is why so many cars, when you listen outside have that "one note" bass thump, thump. That's not accurate reproduction or being true to the artists desires. You will never hear this in a studio control room or in a properly set up live concert system. Your HI Fi has just become Lo Fi-delity.
I think the use of boost is almost enclosure-dependent. So my understanding is that bass boost on my JL JX1000/1D only increases gain on a curve around 45 hz. So I'd treat this like an EQ where I turn down gain as I turn up bass boost. I have a 10" Dayton sub in a small ported box of around .87cf. In this situation the boost is almost necessary to EQ out the lower bass that is lost with the smaller enclosure. If you have a giant box like yours, boost is superfluous.
using bass boost on the amplifier and cranking the lows in the head units EQ is awesome and I recommend cranking it up on both as the starting point....BUT....you need to do it correctly, you need to tune your system with all of that on, basically what I am trying to say is when you're tuning it and checking for clipping and getting it locked in make sure you got everything you might use cranked on, what is cool about this is if you want to use your system in the early morning and don't want a ton of bass or during quiet times all you need to do is turn down bass boost on the amp or set the head unit EQ to flat, if you wanna play it loud for bass boomin or show someone what it is capable of simply just turn it all back up to it's "original" tune/full bass boost. The reason it gets shit on so hard is because people tune their systems with it all set to off or "flat" and then randomly one day they try turning up bass boost or raising the lows in the head unit EQ without tuning it to that and it starts clipping and getting all messed up.
If i turn My loudness off My bass disapears van i use it on low i usually turn My headunit up to 50 at max goes up to 62 deh-3400ub so can i use it on low without distortion? (Sorry for bad english)
id be very interested to know how you determined by this test that bass boost makes the soundwave dirty as you called it. You dont have an oscilloscope so you dont have any way to know for sure what the waveform is that the speakers and subwoofer is getting. Clipping and dirty waveform are not the same thing. Clipping is caused by your amplifier running out of headroom and the amp cant output enough power to create the whole sine wave so it clips. Clipping is easier with bass boost on because you need more power because the bass is louder but it is not the cause of bass boost on a properly installed sized and adjusted system.
Can you use Bass Boost knob as wave "Normalizer" and then set Clipping points with Gain/Volume knob? Some songs dont have the same volume level on lowere frequencies. School me in an alternative in Normalizing every songs
Im just getting back into car audio after 10 year from high-school, and you've helped me in so many ways, ive FINALLY got my amp tuned perfect with NO BOOST, on amp or headunit as well as all bass signal there turned down, my LPF on my amp, matching the 80hz output of my headunit, and got the gain tuned in just right, and not only is it leaning more SQ then SPL now, it even seems louder, yet more crisp. All in all, thanks a ton boss! About to do a FULL kicker build 🤙🙋♂️
My head unit is set to go 35/40 and my bass boost and loudness is all off on it but my amp its on and at full blast it sounds fine and i have not noticed anything bad yet. Im gonna turn it off and try it and set my gain again. Ill report back
Bass Boost can be useful if you know how to use it!~ I have noticed a BIG difference with it off vs on, the bass was just not there as it was with it!~ Plus I tuned my stereo to resonate with the vehicle to sound like a concert!~
My Amp is going into protect mode couldn't figure it out so then when I turn down the bass boost it stopped now I can listen to all the songs I want but what was it doing that was causing it to go into protect mode can the bass boost change the impedance
I have the bass boost down and off on head unit, but I have a LC2i the levels on there are maxed, would that affect anything. If the bass is lowerd there. Then there would be zero bass
All the videos I have watched say no bass boost but then what is bass boost for and what is the right way to use it? What I gather from this video is bass boost can boost the bass at lower volume levels but if you crank the volume up it can clip the amp (if gains are not re-adjusted after setting bass boost), in which case why not use bass boost for lower volume levels and if you crank the volume up reduce the bass with the bass knob?
Bass boost can be useful. Most people say no bass boost because it CAN most definitely clip your signal. Alot of people tell noobies not to even think about it
As said in the video, I think bass boost becomes an issue usually when trying to get the most out of the system (high bass boost, volume and gain). It seems to me that it is all about knowing your system's capabilities and making sure that you balance the three different kinds of volumes (the bass boost, gain, and the regular volume).
They tell us noobies what? Don't think about what? You got it bro we can't think about anything with our brains vibrating in our skulls like this anyhow.
You're right, know your systems capabilities. I prefer to determine the capabilities by exceeding them greatly then buying the exact same amp and returning the one that smells like burnt semiconductors and plastic like I never even opened it lol. Idk why it smells like that bro just give me my money back. Usually by same amp number 3 or 4, I have determined its limits and only pust them about 5% past that. Rms.
Quick question is Bass Boost the same as Bass EQ? I just got a new Alpine S-A60M Amp, and I'm trying to tune it. I have a very basic set up so any help would be truly appreciated it!
Main objective of boost is for when you set your gains with a 0db track and the songs was recorded on a -5 or even -15db track. Its to help compensate most dsp use same technology to help this as well.
Hmm… people won’t use bass boost but they’ll happily tell you that you need a parametric equalizer to flatten your frequency response. Guess what - they’re the same! All bass boost is doing is amplifying a range of frequencies. Provided that your gain is set appropriately to ensure there’s no clipping Play a 200hz sine wave and set your gain to avoid clipping. Use an oscilloscope. Now play a 50hz test sine wave. Does it have a lower peak-peak amplitude? Sure it does because your stock amp is probably rolling off low frequencies to protect the crappy stock speakers. Now how to boost the 50hz amplitude without clipping on the 200hz signal? You need to boost just the lower frequencies using bass boost. Add bass boost until your 40hz signal is the same amplitude as the 200hz signal and not clipping. Now double check that your 200hz signal is still clean. If it isn’t you can turn down the gain just a little - it shouldn’t need much. Congratulations - you have used bass boost to compensate for low frequency toll off of your head unit. Your bass should sound more accurate because your frequency response is flatter - which is what everyone is trying to achieve with dsp parametric equalizers.
Just bought new 12’s two of them hook everything up and turn the bass boost all the way up and my bass maxes out at like ten so I have yet to try this because I stripped the positive battery but so I’m gonna go get one tomorrow so I’ll try it with it off and see if it’s louder
I love to meter my car at Bass Wars , I have 2 Ds18 Hooligans SPL subs RMS 4,000 watts per sub and I'm running a 10k Korean Ds18 amp could you please tell me how to set my amp and my radio up I have a Kenwood706 asking for help, so far I have metered a 150db
I always thought SLA was source level adjustment which was used to equal out the volume of various sources like going from FM radio to USB , and your USB isn't as loud as the FM radio ?
@@AudioHolic1 i use usb as main source for music too BUT ill tell you this. In the beginning, i did what you are doing too. I would put the SLA on 2 or 3 out of 4. BUT later i found keeping it at 0 and instead adjusting the gain properly, will make it sound better and cleaner and you can go all the way to almost max volume. With SLA, i found that i could get to max volume at lower volume levels. The proper way to set gain is to have everything flat and be able to play at almost your max volume without any major clipping. SLA can cause clipping easily if you are not careful. Try keeping it at 0 and redoing your gain.
I got a hifonics alpha 1200.1 class d with two kickers hooked up what do I do put the lpf all the way to 250 then the level from minimum to like medium or put level all the way up and then lpf half way ?????

What If iv got a stock radio head unit for the moment unfortunately my other radio messed up but the reason I'm asking about the 0 to 9 dB I unfortunately have since iv got the amp the gain is maxed as well as the dB 😅 no boost for the radio an it being stock also very limited in the fine tuning iv only got bass and treble so with out that boost it doesn't even seem like iv got a system back there with it all the way down please any advice u could give me
I'm running a 400watt rms kicker R 10 with a 300watt rms dual class D amp. If I set all my adjustments to max it doesn't distort at all. Maybe I need a 1000watt amp set to 3/4 gain.
It's sad to hear folks critic a functional and purposeful knob simply because they don't know when to use it. Firstly, amps are built to deliver and speakers are built to handle. All of us here can agree that mids and coaxial will clip when bass is introduced that's why we mostly cross them higher with no bass at most; right, the same is true with subwoofers, a 1000rms rated sub for e.g may clip as opposed to a 2500rms rated subwoofer when bass boost is set to a desired level. Essentially bass boost works on subwoofers that can handle it, in my experience a genuine 2000rms or higher. Suddenly a good subwoofer will sound like it's got a company of another producing a tonne of smooth bass output
Who in the actual fizuck has 2500 watt RMS subs? Aint nobody pushing that many ROOT MEAN SQUARE watts through a speaker in their vehicle. I have a couple of JBL 1000w MAX (like 300 rms?) Subs that will make you do a double take to make sure donkey kong didn't just punch you in the chest. I'm not saying it's impossible. Just improbable and impractical. Unless you drive around wearing a pressure resistant suit for disarming bombs and shit. 2500 watts at 12v is over 200 amps. So you're either melting cables or you've got wire bigger than the 4/0 used on a 200A residential main electrical service entrance. And given that you do, what about the batteries/alternator? And that's just power issues. All of which will be irrelevant when the entire vehicle vibrates completely apart halfway through song "put on" by Young Jeezy Damn Jeezy....I need an inflatable car to listen to your shit at an appropriately absurd level of obnoxious. 2500 u say? Rms you say? I'm down. Let's tear some shit up
I just installed a 700W amp to a 200W sub I read somewhere I’m supposed to at least double my sub wattage to get my amp wattage to be in the clear when choosing an amp… I only had a 200W amp and a 700W amp… First question: When I’m trying to tune everything right off the bat should I flatten out my EQ and turn everything off as far as filters go on the head unit and dial in the dedicated sub amp or should I tune the head unit EQ FIRST with the sub off then start messing with the dials on the amp dedicated to my sub? Question 2: I have 2 stock speakers behind my head and upgraded speakers in the kick panel with my sub centered behind the front seats (98’ Silverado) should/could I connect my aftermarket kick panel speakers to my amp with the sub and use them as amplified mids and put my stock head level speakers in high pass and use them as highs? Then the sun in low pass and dial that in after my heat unit is EQ’ed?
Set head unit, then amps. Your power watts vs. sub will do fine. I would use a 2/4 channel separate amp for upgraded speakers, sub amps don’t go on speakers.
Hello sir good information.sir which one is better car amplifier and bass tube inbuilt amplifier which one better bass tube .car amplifier ? Best sound quality please help thanks 🙏🇮🇳
So many variables counts when it comes to audio, sadly truth is many times clipping occurs when you try to achieve high end quality with low budget components, fact is bass boost works simply crank it to half then gradually crank the gain with your head unit set to desired loudness, never exceed quarter however the outcome depends on the quality built and reliability the specs from your equipments
never exceed quarter of the gain? Are you also saying to start with bass boost up at halfway and my volume up to where i know i have no distortion in my mids and highs? Then start slowly turning up the gain on my amp, also i have a bassboost frequency on my amp right next to my bass boost on my amp. Where should that dial be set at? could you send me a email? ambro_fern@yahoo.com thank you in advance.
should i turn the bass on my stock radio all the way off? i just got subs and not sure exackty what to do with my radio, and my radio is stock too i have a converter
@@JacobViral2 ok cause the shop turned the bass off on the radio when i got it, should i keep it off and just control the bass on the gain from the amp?
Source level isn't a "bass boost" per say. It's just a level to balance difference source outputs. Example - cd may play 5 "clicks" louder than Bluetooth. That level adjuster makes it so the output on each source is the same - to prevent damage when swapping sources
Hi Jacob I love your videos, I do have a question if you can answer it for me, I had my system installed this past weekend and I wanted the guy to wire my 2ohm dual subs down to 1 ohm, I watched him wire them and I think he wired them wrong, he put 1 wire to the positive on 1 side of subs input and the other end he put it to the negative connector on the other side of sub, and plugged the remaining wire that connect from box to amp to the remaining positive and negative terminals on sub, I believe he wired them in series, aren't you supposed to run a wire to positive to positive and a wire to negative negative to negative and then the wire from the box to sub, POSITIVE and negative? Thanks
Sounds like you need to cross reference and double check everything’s good, plus use a multimeter. Here’s a DIY Wiring video I made: th-cam.com/video/3dvhxmlBcfc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZrrQNd5GNTJFCZXA ; if it’s 2 subs D2, only possible to be at either .5/2/8 ohm.
Your right man just like most audio professionals say don’t use bass boost. But some people don’t care or have bad hearing or don’t know what bass is and should sound like. When I first met one of my friends he was right rocking major distortion cause he thought if I was loud it sounded good. I helped him out and taught him about audio. Then he mentioned his lil brother would brag about how his system blows sub woofers I said ya if you don’t know what your doing you can easily blow speakers doesn’t mean you have a strong amp or it sounds good.
my head unit is quite old, it has a 5 band eq, i set band 1 and 2 as low as they can go -10, that way my two old mids that run off the head unit directly don't distort until very close to max volume, and i'm hoping that helps clean up the signal to my amps too. my amp tho, the "bass boost" is like a volume knob, all the way down turns the amp off, and around 50% is as loud as it gets, past that it doesnt get louder so i'm assuming it's clipping so i never go that high. i have it at about 25% now and it's not as loud as it can be but i feel a lot more confident that it wont be clipping like that
Quick question jacob I have a amp the gain says 6v min and 0.2vmax I have a 4v preamp head unit pioneer where should the gain be set at I have bass boost off sub sonic is around 30 and the lpf is around 80 I have it a little over half way turned up but i think it might be clipping at full tilt any help would be great thank you
I always used a multimeter and/or DD1 amzn.to/3bzGxo9 to gain set. Sounds like your on the right track, for 4v it’ll be around the 1/3 usually depending on head unit settings.
I got a Skar Audio system. 3 10” DDX (1000w rms) ran by RP1200 (1200w rms). i got my gains up half way, and bass boost on 6db. Its louder and still sounds clear. Is that safe?
I'm rocking big time I just wanted to thank you again dude I mean I'm slamming hard with all the money time and effort I put into this finally come alive thanks to people like you putting out these videos for people left experience like me they really helped me out I mean I got like over two grand and all this stuff and that one little adjustment wasn't all the way off and it was killing me
I use an amp that has a little less power than my subs rms then I can use my bass boost with out causing any harm. I've done it like this and never had a problem and I had the same subs and amp for 5yrs. I'm not an expert but I know a little.
Lol my brother in law has out 3 different sets of subs 10s 12s trying to get more base no shop could do it. I turned the base boost up and adjusted the gain and it hits so hard he almost bought a w7 13” cuz it wasn’t enough base but after I adjusted it he’s happy as heck
So I guess I should turn the bass boost off of my subs I have 2 kicker comp r 10 w 1200 fosgate amp should I just put the gain up a little bit more and turn off bass boost and also when I just put them in they sounded very clear but after about a week or so they got distorted would that be the bass boost?
So if the bass boost is off on head unit and on amp, do I only use the gain on the amp for bass? I have a jvc double din unit. It has a bass boost option and a subwoofer option that goes to +10. Is the subwoofer a bass boost also?
@@germanywho bass knob isnt bass boost.....i used an o scope to turn the gain up and make sure its clean and the bass knob just controls the voltage input to the amp to make it to where you can turn it up to where you set the amp gain or pull out input voltage by turning the knob down

Akuma4u on my old school Rockford fosgate amplifiers l like turn the gain almost all the way down and turn up the bass boost it seems to work bery well for me just saying
It’s a gimmick for teens and newbies . The company’s don’t care if you ruin your speakers/subwoofers they just want to sell product. But it’s your money do what you want with it. Use bass boost even though 95% of audio professionals don’t even know why amp makers put it on there amps.
@@workingclassperson2124 there is a need and use for bass boost. For eq purposes. Often people tune their boxes way too low and the 45hz region needs a lift. The bass boost dials on mostly all amps is a 45hz frequency with 6 to 12db of gain. Using this for eq purposes is common and many people do it to bring more balance to their bandwidth. Of course, it must be used usually 5db or less or else it can induce clipping quick.
@@juanpestrada5231bdndjkdn have u ever tried turning bass boost all the way down and instead your gain up? I have a feeling your box is tuned very low. Is it?

My pioneer amp come with a bass knob remote but... It's not a level control, it's a bass boost, it sounds terrible. My pioneer head unit default settings has 'subwoofer control' to +6db 'loudness' on mid and a setting call 'S,RTRV' on which boost all freq. So when I put my amp in and set gain with bass boost knob remote all the way on and and also with EQ on power and bass boost in headunit on 4, and also boosted like 4 other ways in the headunit, when I was at 10 out of 62 volume I had almost max bass hahah, to make it all worse my phone also was on bass boost for the music app! How things can go terribly wrong. Now every thing is flat other than I put loudness on low because I don't listen to max volume.
when i put my bass flat on my hu my door and back dash spkrs cant handlle the bass ssl dd661b basic hu has only loud and equalizer. so i put my bass at lowest piont on hu and turn loud on and bass boost on amp i turn up just enough to here it change a little. my amp is a ct sounds at 1400.1d what shld i do? if loud isnt on i have no power
Get a new head unit, speakers and a 4 channel amp for your door and dash speakers. 👍 your whole system is only as good as your head unit. Find the clipping point on your head unit 1st never go above that volume and everything else gets adjusted after and you will always have good clean sounds.
My output voltage on my rca from my android head unit is 1.5 volt. I understand what you're saying but what if your amp doesn't have a bass knob attachment?? I also have to ask if you have a equalizer?? All music isn't created the same and I find sometimes you may need to take away bass because it's to much. The balance is off.

If my gain and everything is already set will turning down the bass boost affect anything. Like will I need to reset the gain or will it not affect anything
U rock ur volume at 20, if I bass boost, and turn my loud on and adjust everything up, mids and highs, but I keep my bass at 2 and sw at 2 on my deck its loud and clear on 10. My back up I had was an eclipse 200 or 400 watt amp. 1st day i blew the 20 amp fuse, put in a 30 amp fuse and this bangs hard. I bought an Audio Pipe 1500 watt amp but haven't got it put in yet. So I think this will be scary loud. And now bring up bass knobs, I do not use right now. But new amp has 1. Isn't that gain, or bass boost? All big systems I see on here have that huge bass knob. Hey into that concept. Amazing videos.
He only rocks his volume at 20 for testing purposes. To keep everything consistent. When you say when you turn your volume up the cleaner the words are but the bass isn’t as “tough” doesn’t make any sense to me. At this point the subwoofers should be over taking your door speakers. I’ve heard of this but only on factory radio head units that have that bass roll off.
My bass boost is set at 6db out of potential 12db (which is half way) and gain is around 70%. I do not know how to set gain in accordance with bass boost. Can anyone help please ?
Its recommended to leave it at 0 so people dont blow their systems. If tuned right, bass boost can fix many systems safely thats lacking bass. Why does your system lack bass? Because your head unit did not have a subwoofer rca output, this is the case with most line out converters. The bass boost can be tuned with a oscilloscope to ovoid going in clipping, if you dont use bass boost for some head units and line out converters, you will never have effecient bass. Eg. I ended up pulling less power to make more bass by using bass boost. In otherwords, my headlights stoppped clipping
I don't have my head unit set at 52...thats crazy and would take forever to get the volume up. I think my Kenwood only goes to 40 anyways and my max is about 25. I do a lot of turning it down at lights or around the neighborhood..don't want to advertise and I do a lot of Hwy driving...

Don't listen to dude you suppose to turn your bass boost up and turn your bass of on your head I noticed when u use your head for bass it causes a lot of distortion

Custom EQ on the headunit you can add or decrease db at different frequency on your pioneer 80prs
Explain to me one thing if everybody says don’t use it why does the manufacturer make it with that setting on there
Fr tho!
Setting your bass boost to 0 sounds like you don't have subwoofer installed. :)
The reason your now at +6db bass boost is just like every other basshead you want more over time and thus risk your equipment to get it.

best video ever. others could really learn how to make good videos by watching this. DIRECT to the point, no BS, and video goes on if you want more info. Well done my man.,
I just learned something thank you. I'm gonna do that today.
Not everyone listens to their system at volume all the time. When I do I turn the volume up I turn my boost down. With just everyday driving my system sounds great with the boost at halfway. Of course with my gain set right.
That's it👍👍
Simply saying, adjust the bass boost the way you want it.. that's why the knob is there.. It makes sense.
Thanks for the straightforward video, it was 100 correct for my case...lowered to 0 set all the other stuff to around 65-75% sounds way better
glad it helped
Thanks Jacob!!! I was wondering why it felt like I was clipping wayyyy to fast thanks 1000 times over
Can i chime in as a music producer.
Agree!
using bass boost on the amplifier and cranking the lows in the head units EQ is awesome and I recommend cranking it up on both as the starting point....BUT....you need to do it correctly, you need to tune your system with all of that on, basically what I am trying to say is when you're tuning it and checking for clipping and getting it locked in make sure you got everything you might use cranked on, what is cool about this is if you want to use your system in the early morning and don't want a ton of bass or during quiet times all you need to do is turn down bass boost on the amp or set the head unit EQ to flat, if you wanna play it loud for bass boomin or show someone what it is capable of simply just turn it all back up to it's "original" tune/full bass boost.
I did not know this . Will be adjusting thing tomorrow for sure.
Shut bass boost off?
Can you use Bass Boost knob as wave "Normalizer" and then set Clipping points with Gain/Volume knob?
Some songs dont have the same volume level on lowere frequencies.

My head unit is set to go 35/40 and my bass boost and loudness is all off on it but my amp its on and at full blast it sounds fine and i have not noticed anything bad yet. Im gonna turn it off and try it and set my gain again. Ill report back
Wonder why they put it there if your not really supposed to use it ???
Bass Boost can be useful if you know how to use it!~
I have noticed a BIG difference with it off vs on, the bass was just not there as it was with it!~ Plus I tuned my stereo to resonate with the vehicle to sound like a concert!~
My Amp is going into protect mode couldn't figure it out so then when I turn down the bass boost it stopped now I can listen to all the songs I want but what was it doing that was causing it to go into protect mode can the bass boost change the impedance
Overheating due to more voltage probably
I have the bass boost down and off on head unit, but I have a LC2i the levels on there are maxed, would that affect anything. If the bass is lowerd there. Then there would be zero bass
All the videos I have watched say no bass boost but then what is bass boost for and what is the right way to use it? What I gather from this video is bass boost can boost the bass at lower volume levels but if you crank the volume up it can clip the amp (if gains are not re-adjusted after setting bass boost), in which case why not use bass boost for lower volume levels and if you crank the volume up reduce the bass with the bass knob?
Joe bloggs.. very good question! I wish you'd gotten a response.
Bass boost can be useful. Most people say no bass boost because it CAN most definitely clip your signal. Alot of people tell noobies not to even think about it
I used my subwoofer at max bassboost at the beginning in like 2 months, nothing scary really happened. So i dont get him saying to not use the boost
@@emzi-_- yeah he keeps saying its bad but not getting distortion, just more bass at lower volumes.
Some amps will have a Bass EQ(boost) with the boost frequency , same concept i say yes
Provided that your gain is set appropriately to ensure there’s no clipping
Play a 200hz sine wave and set your gain to avoid clipping.
Your bass should sound more accurate because your frequency response is flatter - which is what everyone is trying to achieve with dsp parametric equalizers.
best explanation ever

I'm running a 400watt rms kicker R 10 with a 300watt rms dual class D amp. If I set all my adjustments to max it doesn't distort at all. Maybe I need a 1000watt amp set to 3/4 gain.
😂😂😂
Totally agree with you mate.
All of which will be irrelevant when the entire vehicle vibrates completely apart halfway through song "put on" by

First question: When I’m trying to tune everything right off the bat should I flatten out my EQ and turn everything off as far as filters go on the head unit and dial in the dedicated sub amp or should I tune the head unit EQ FIRST with the sub off then start messing with the dials on the amp dedicated to my sub?

You need to have bass on and control with knob still
Source level isn't a "bass boost" per say.

Do a video on clip light indicators and how accurate they really are and if a little flashing is OK or if it should be not flashing whatsoever.

why would anyone play music at vol.40 or even 50? does head units not normally introduce distortion at volumes of 28-30?
Pioneer 80prs goes to 63 and clips at 61, normal
Your right man just like most audio professionals say don’t use bass boost. But some people don’t care or have bad hearing or don’t know what bass is and should sound like. When I first met one of my friends he was right rocking major distortion cause he thought if I was loud it sounded good. I helped him out and taught him about audio. Then he mentioned his lil brother would brag about how his system blows sub woofers I said ya if you don’t know what your doing you can easily blow speakers doesn’t mean you have a strong amp or it sounds good.
What do you set subwoofer level to on the head unit? 0 or +6?
I always do flat 0 but depends on rca preout voltage goals some do +6.
my head unit is quite old, it has a 5 band eq, i set band 1 and 2 as low as they can go -10, that way my two old mids that run off the head unit directly don't distort until very close to max volume, and i'm hoping that helps clean up the signal to my amps too. my amp tho, the "bass boost" is like a volume knob, all the way down turns the amp off, and around 50% is as loud as it gets, past that it doesnt get louder so i'm assuming it's clipping so i never go that high. i have it at about 25% now and it's not as loud as it can be but i feel a lot more confident that it wont be clipping like that
Quick question jacob I have a amp the gain says 6v min and 0.2vmax I have a 4v preamp head unit pioneer where should the gain be set at I have bass boost off sub sonic is around 30 and the lpf is around 80 I have it a little over half way turned up but i think it might be clipping at full tilt any help would be great thank you
I have the gain a little over half way up so around 1 o clock
I always used a multimeter and/or DD1 amzn.to/3bzGxo9 to gain set. Sounds like your on the right track, for 4v it’ll be around the 1/3 usually depending on head unit settings.

Usually flat/0 but depends on the stereo, some do best up all the way
Mine stats clipping at volume 25 or less with my bass knob not even close to half way
If its clipping turn the gain down
So I guess I should turn the bass boost off of my subs I have 2 kicker comp r 10 w 1200 fosgate amp should I just put the gain up a little bit more and turn off bass boost and also when I just put them in they sounded very clear but after about a week or so they got distorted would that be the bass boost?
Bass boost off and gain set to match your head unit rca output match.
So if the bass boost is off on head unit and on amp, do I only use the gain on the amp for bass? I have a jvc double din unit. It has a bass boost option and a subwoofer option that goes to +10. Is the subwoofer a bass boost also?
Just gain For the amp and flat for head unit or 0 all. The Bass subwoofer option on there some do max but user preference.
My number one rule is no Amp Bass Boost.
That’s why your not loud
@@nickxcaliber7991 i dont use bass boost and im doing a 151 lmao try again
He talking about no bass boost but he got a bass knob👎🏼
@@germanywho bass knob isnt bass boost.....i used an o scope to turn the gain up and make sure its clean and the bass knob just controls the voltage input to the amp to make it to where you can turn it up to where you set the amp gain or pull out input voltage by turning the knob down

Tell me about ohms and then I’ll belive u . Tell me about dual coils r12 4ohms each coil. Is a 1ohm amp 500x1 or a 0.2-1600 watt amp better than the 1x500 watt kicker amp. I have the r 12 alpine
Look at the rms wattage rated, most monoblocks are 1 ohm stable
Bass boost off ok, will my bass knob work if I have it off?? Or will it affect it?
Bass knob shouldn’t use bass boost as a factor
@@JacobViral2 Thanks, seems useless to those who are experienced and useful to the unexperienced. . If it is tuned why mess with it??
So if your competing turn everything up! Gotcha👍🏼thanks 😜
What's the point in the bass bossed knob on amp then!!!
because it still can be used when used properly and safely. but most people dont use it because its not really needed.
Is it?
Quick question jacob! Which app did you use for db measurement and which microphone on the iphone? I’m using an app that lets me pick between the 3 mics on an iphone, just curious on what would be more accurate, i’m at about 119 currently on a 2000 watt ap 1 ohm dual 12 ap quad stacks, scared to crank it up 😵😂

Tht box looks like it slaps… can I run a SA.x12v3 in a box like tht? 2000wts rms
Yea should be fine, it’s a big 4th order single 10”
I ordered an audiopipe and cerwin vega line driver and I am going to return whichever one doesn't work but what I really need is a dac to convert my optical signal to rca. Problem is they all output at 2v. There is one that does 4.5v but it's $100 and it's 15v meant for home use. Super weird. Anyone have any suggestions?
I understand what you're saying but what if your amp doesn't have a bass knob attachment?? I also have to ask if you have a equalizer?? All music isn't created the same and I find sometimes you may need to take away bass because it's to much. The balance is off.
Concept works the same without a Bass knob. 👍 and yea the music can distort too depending on quality.
Did your bass knob come with your amp or is that a bass knob you bought that's universal? I'm looking for one with a clipping light on it for my deaf bonce aab2000.1
Bass knob came with it. Sadly not all amps have clipping feature as it costs more to manufacture.
@@JacobViral2 my amp has the clipping light but it's not in a place I can see while driving. Was looking at a bass knob with the feature but not sure if all bass knobs with the clipping indicator would be compatible with my amp
@@stevenrajh You have to have an amp that gives the factory default bass knob that came with the amp with the clipping already on it. You can't add a clipping from any bass knob.
@@JacobViral2 understood thanks
Help Help Help I’m wiring my one ohm #dvc sundown Audio x12v3 to a skar 2000rp and I’m tryin to maximize my output, and push the crap outta my x12… wht do I do?
Rp series isn’t made for half ohm, wire up to 2 ohm until you get another 2k for 1 ohm per coil or another Korean made amp made for .5 ohm. Make sure you have electrical to support it.
@@JacobViral2 damn Thts Wht I was afraid of… (I can’t wire it down to 2 ohm and I can’t afford to buy another X12..) I kinda just wanna do one sub systems… for my personal listening enjoyment, nowadays I just think 2 subs is overkill and really just too much for me to blast … I should’ve gotten a 2 ohm sub if I’m only going to rock out with one sub rght? ??Cause one sub, especially my x12 which is going to soak up siick amounts of power “2000-3000k” is definitely going to be more than enough if only I could push it properly… so again I should’ve bought an x12 with a 2 ohm impedance rght??
@@JacobViral2 Ohk get another x12v3 😖 now I need big power, 🤨which amp should I go with Taramps 8k or SALT 4k? 🤔🤷🏽♂️🫣
@@jahcousteauu_STAYinSHAPE Your sub is fine, just a dual 1 ohm can only be wired to half ohm or 2 ohm.
If 2 subs, you'll be happier with a taramps 8k at 1 ohm over a salt 4k at 1 ohm.
So if u mesure by music the ratings are way lower .. by voltmeter. I kinda hate that I did a bass bosted one that ik hits hard but yet vs the frequency test its way different
I turned my gain down with bass boost half way and it sounds way harder and cleaner so too much gain will clip when you use boost
I think that's how it works. That's basically what I do
So I have bass boost all the way and sounds really clean ?
Depends on the amp u use and I did the big 3 and it helped alot.im using a nemisis Brazil board 3k amp so I've got it running 4 ohms on 2 cvx 15s with 0 gadge and the amp is so powerful that I'm running 4 ohms and it's tearing up my ride still 💣
If my gain and everything is already set will turning down the bass boost affect anything. Like will I need to reset the gain or will it not affect anything
You need to retune after setting Bass boost if you use but not suggested.
@@JacobViral2 so I turned the bass boost off will I need to set my gain again or only if I turn the bass boost back up again
@@MrMocheez80 I would tune amp with boost off again
@@JacobViral2 ok thanks
U rock ur volume at 20, if I bass boost, and turn my loud on and adjust everything up, mids and highs, but I keep my bass at 2 and sw at 2 on my deck its loud and clear on 10. Its hits harder bass at lower volumes. The louder I turn up the clearer the words but bass isn't as tough. If I keep everything Flat I have 2 turn up 2 30 and still don't get the clarity and bass I get at lower volumes. So I assume it personal preference and or what your running. I have a boss double din, and an Audio pipe 15 in a side port box, I had a 1000 watt boss riot amp I blew up.
The remote wire controls the bass boost right? Easier access from the driver seat
Yeah is that okay to change or no? Is it the same as bass boost?
TY for the demo of bass boost. Subd.
If you are going to use it simply turn the gain down. It will prevent clipping
Yes 👍
Can anyone help me? My head unit is 14.4 v, 10-14.4v is acceptable. My 4channel amp has voltage dials .5v- 15v where do I set dials on amp? Thank you.
Go by the units RCA output voltage
My bass boost is set at 6db out of potential 12db (which is half way) and gain is around 70%.
I do not know how to set gain in accordance with bass boost.
Can anyone help please ?
Boost off, gain set to match preout rca voltage of head unit with all boosts/loudness off and bass flat 0. th-cam.com/video/FUx5axitdBo/w-d-xo.html
I miss my old Eddie Bauer explorer. lol now im living my nostalgia in a 98 4Runner. They tend to run a little be better lol
I'm gonna try that cause I have 2 zv5 12s and a scv 6000 and its clipping alot
It's all about the balance between volume, bass boost, and amp gain
Thank you so much!! This has helped me greatly
