    People, who cares about his playing or the tones he was using its obvious he was using a vary flat tone for all of the channels so he could show the actual sound of the amp. Great review on it, I'm definitely stoked on getting one of these amps. The only thing I wish he would have done is show how the different tone parameters shape the tone, other than that its still a great review of how clean and professional sounding the amp is.

    You sold me! And I mean that in the literal sense, as I just ordered one from Carvin. With the $200 discount, the amp sells for $899 + $29 shipping. The sales guy ask me at the end how I heard about Carvin and this amp, and I told him from TTK! He said that I was the third one that has said that! Just thought you would like to know. I can't wait. My first REAL amp. I suffer along all day with a Vypyr 30, so this is a big deal for me. I chose this over the Mesa Trans-Atlantic. Hope I did good.

    Well, i got my delivery yesterday and my first impressions are..first of all this one is very different from the other 2 Legs...it definitely has it's own tone and character, and between the master volume, boost, drive, gain switch, new reverb unit, and eq, it lends itself to an endless potential for tonal adjustment for whatever style you fancy. The clean channel is better than ever!!! i'm not a big clean channel kinda guy but what a beautiful ringing "bell-like chime it has!! so far SO GOOD!!!

    I have been going back and forth on this amp for months. I need something that is going to get a ton of different tones without my head exploding. I think it's pretty hard to accomplish that without spending around $3000 for a boutique amp. There is just so much gain built into today's modern amps. Nothing wrong with that. If you are playing small clubs, don't really need it. I think Steve accomplished what he set out to do with this one. I think your video proved that! Great video!

    TK-- WOW ! Love the sound of this amp. Very articulate, you can actually hear the guitar versus it being covered up by the gain. Sustain out the wazoo also ! Not many amps can do this. You've got a winner here in my book.
    Nice job on this review.

    hey tone king, this was a really good demo of the usable tones in this amp. ci recently returned a vl 100 under warrantee and asked carvin if i could upgrade to this amp...for a price difference adjustment of course, however, i was shocked at the offer they gave me and it went like this...we keep your pristine condition vl 100 and ¥ou buy this for $100 discount but, YOU PAY THE SHIPPING..even though they were going to send my repaired vl 100 no cost. my vl 100 fried, never had the thing over 2

    I have this amp and I don't think you will be disappointed. I love it. I was also thinking about the Trans-Atlantic also, but the options offered by the Legacy 3 were exactly what I was looking for.

    I'd love to say I was sold on it too - and it seems this amp is a great little unit - but the only thing holding me back is the price! Even with the Australian dollar virtually equal to the American one, RRP over here for this little amp is $1759 - and no matter how good this amp is, I can't justify that price tag...

    Oh, TTK just a comment my man, at 20:00 when you talk about connecting to cabinets I believe what you meant to say was to set it up at 4 ohms for 2 x8 ohms cabs and 8ohms for 2x16 ohms cabs. Cheers!

  • @scottfree6
    @scottfree6 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    and did i mention this amp sustains forever...it really does, i thought i had my CS-3 clicked on and to my surprise all that sustain was coming from the amp!! UNREAL!! people!!! i was only able to play on a very low volume so i still have much to explore but when i turned it up just a tad and i mean a tad like master volume at 1 if that and the volume at 3-4 the thing just starts to sing!!! awesome for noted melodies, it just cuts through anything, i can see that already!! today we will see :)))

    Love the tones in this amp. I tried the V3M but sent it back; couldn't get a decent classic rock tone out of it, much more suited to metal. But this baby sounds just right to me, for what I play. Thanks for a great demo!

    Hey TK,
    Would you ever review or compare some attenuators? I don't know if you've already done that (if you did, I'm sorry for the request), but I think it would be cool to have some videos showing some aspects of some attenuators in the market.
    BTW, I really dig your channel.

    I bought this amp last month and its great. I sent a Krank and Engl Scream back because the Krank did not have a good distortation sound without a pedal. The Engl did not work right and their customer support is nonexistant. This is the real deal. I got it with a single 12 cabinet with vintage tweed cover. The only problem with that video is I paid the same price $899 for mine because it listed for $999. Carvin raised the price to make it seem likee its on sale.

  • @MrUltraworld

    They hit a home run with this & the V3. The Legacy III has a lot of different tones, but it's a simple amp to operate. You can't touch what the V3M does for $599 or what the Legacy III achieves for $899. I highly recommend the legacy 2x12 & 4x12 cabs. Top quality at a great price.

    was just looking at his settings, and DAY-UM. if you have to turn the bass up THAT much and treble down that much to get a decent tone? doesn't have much bottom end does it? my twin I have to put the treble to like 8 and the bass to like 3 and it still rumbles the low end.

    • @Shadow07Warrior1989
      @Shadow07Warrior1989 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of what you're hearing as a lack of bass comes from a few things: one, his guitar. Two, the mics he's using to capture the sounds. Three, the room. Four, the amp. But notice the guitar is first. Certain guitars have more bass resonance than others either because of wood, shape, or other factors. I didn't notice a lack of bass at all in this demo given those parameters.

    Mark...Wow bagging on the Legacy 3. I had one and loved the janglely, spongy sound of it. For me channel three missed the mark but 1, 2 were stellar. I spent hours on channel 1 and really found it very musical and fun to play...very inspiring. Channel 2 was equally fun and articulate. Channel three i just kept switching out of...nuf said there i guess. Ill probably get another one though. It really depends on the pickups as well not to mention the cab. Legacy cabs are just to dark for me.

  • @MrUltraworld

    I have seen Vai twice since this amp was released. He has Legacy 1's powered up & running with Legacy 3's on top with no power or speaker cables attached. $1k hood ornaments? Cause Vai wasn't using them.

    Hello tone king. What is the best 212 guitar for the money in your opinion that would work best for the legacy 3. I am having a hard time finding the legacy 212 used and especially since carvin went out of business .
    I was debating between the laney , blackstar , peavey and Mesa as the only way I could get a mesa is used . I would rather get a new cab.
    Thanks

  • @jesman1
    @jesman1 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the head and each of it`s 3 channels sound good. Not all heads do. Some may be a 1 trick pony so this is a really good head. You could get by with using the head alone for it`s built in gain and run effects through the effects loop. Cool really.

    That is a great sounding amp. Too many awesome amps are being produced today, can't buy them all. Last month I got the Kasha RockMod 50 all tube amp. It has the same characteristics as this one does. A three channel head with either EL34s, 6L6 or 6550 tubes and seven 12AX7 preamp tubes. I chose the 6550 tubes, just to have a different sound than anyone else. They are awesome, and I would recommend them to anyone who is into mostly metal. I do love this Carvin though. Great demo too!

    I'm guessing digital, and it wouldn't be plate, it's exceptionally rare to find an amp with plate reverb, it's just too large, most of the time it's digital or spring. This head I gather is too small to fit a spring tank in.

    This or a SLO ?

    • @GargoilNation
      @GargoilNation 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The SLO is a very different amp. I own the L3 and a Soldano Hot Rod 50 (which is voiced to the SLO dirty channel). Any Soldano is very punchy, clear, in your face - kind of like a hot rodded Fender Twin or something. The Carvin Legacy line is a very smooth 'classic rock' sounding amp (which I really love). Also, the clean on the L3 is to die for if you love the classic Fender sounding clean. The Soldano clean is quite midrangy (still nice, but very different). It's really a matter of taste. Both the L3 and the SLO are superior, professional grade amps. If I had to only have one, I would pick the L3 because the rock sound is outstanding, and it's more versatile and a little sweeter sounding than the Soldano. Not to take away from the SLO. If you are more of a take no prisoners in your face rocker, the Soldano will get you there for sure. But, you can coax any sound out of a good amp with efx. So, it comes down to : how do you like the base sound, IMO.

    • @GargoilNation
      @GargoilNation 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Forgot to mention that the price of a new Legacy 3 is under a grand, and an SLO is over 3K! So, where can you get pro tone - an amp that can get you to the big time, playing arenas - for under a grand? In the spirit of some fatherly advice, if you buy any good amp, and the sound sucks - look in the mirror for the problem! Don Felder from the Eagles recorded Hotel California using a Fender Champ. Howard Leese of Heart used a (50's) Fender Bassman his whole career with that band. So, it ain't the amp, right?

    • @GargoilNation
      @GargoilNation 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem to have different opinions out there. However, after trying many amps looking for that (bullshit) holy grail sound, I have come to the realization that it's not about the equipment - it's about how you use it. I have no disagreement with anyone who does not share that view because, if your sound sucks, you won't be into it. I ask you to please just remember, everyone is not a metal player - so you are right, the Carvin wont do buzzsaw...(lol). You don't have to listen to my opinion - I'm just saying that you don't need a 3K amp to sound good - you just need to know how to use what you have. Does that make sense?

    i spoke with Bart this time and he seemed more concerned about keeping a customer than the other.....i spoke to, so far i am really disappointed about how they are handling this, what would be the big deal to them to just take care of a customer with an upgrade now in lieu of the circumstances. when i bought the vl 100 from them new it was almost the same price as this so i don't see their logic in being "tight" about this situation. Basic journalistic etiquette: Where you in any way sponsored by Carvin making this video? Its a bit unclear until you start talking about the great price campaign..then it becomes pretty obvious.....and again that makes the review somewhat useless
