Interesting interview... A shame though that the first questions are about the stars he has worked with, rather than his wonderful solo albums - which are among the most inventive and beautifully crafted jazz albums going.
Thanks Andrew. I take your point. I discovered Vince's music through the 'back door' - so to speak - through his work with other artists like Joni Mitchell and Bjork. THEN I went on the magical journey of discovering his own amazing compositions. So that's probably why I structured the interview that way.
@@SimonLasky Fair enough Simon - the interview is good anyway, and to your credit you do put his CDs on your piano behind you! A musician friend got me into Vince Mendoza's original material back in the 1990s with the Start Here album. I just feel it is an overlooked masterpiece - what he is doing on that album is so innovative, and he picks just the right players for each part.
Fabulous interview Simon! Very inspiring ! Loved your questions and Vince’s answers!
He is such a great man , and a great arranger , and conducter. Specially with the Metropole Orchestra. Witch he conducs for about 25 years now.
yes, yes, and yes - 100% Cornelis!
Fascinating insight into the world of Vince. I've spent many hours enjoying and marvelling at his wonderful music. Great interview - thanks Simon!
Thanks so much Steve, so pleased you're enjoying it.
