- Hawks and falcons are both birds of prey. However, you may have likely heard people using the terms interchangeably. The reality is that they are two different species of birds. Hawks are adaptable but prefer living in the open spaces of North America, Central America, Jamaica, and the West Indies. Falcons live in several countries all over the world.
On the other hand, there is a difference between what the common names refer to with regards to specific birds and what they mean in training birds of prey, or raptors. The keeping of any trained captive birds of prey is called falconry, which used to be called “hawking,” and any of the birds of prey in falconry can be called hawks. Why are the birds in the Accipitrine group called hawks, but the birds in the Buteo group are either called hawks, buzzards, or hawk-buzzards depending on where they’re at? We’ll see what makes a true hawk or true falcon and the differences between them below!

A Falcon is an Atlanta Pro Football player.

Ironically the Eagle has a weak shrill voice and the sound you usually hear is from a red tailed hawk.

I think that is passive aggressive behaviour. You sounded so positive but you are, I think, being quite pretentious. The thumbnail of this video are actually both falcons. And some of these birds are actually not hawks or falcons. Like the black and white hawk which actually is a martial eagle.
I have two hawks though I don't really know if they are falcons or Hawks, I found them on the street injured

A falcon is a different species to the hawk. That was literally the whole point of 30 minutes of information. Eagles are hawks, vultures I think are even hawks, the only bird of prey that stands out on paper is the falcon. Evolution is a harsh mistress but she is beautiful. If anyone has any pull they could ask how they evolved that jagged tooth and the fighter jet wings

Eagles are hawks? Vultures are hawks? No they are not hawks. Eagles are Eagles and Vultures are vultures. They are not hawks.
In the US they have red tail hawks, ferruginous hawks, red shoulder hawks etc. Not one of those species is an actual hawk. They are buzzards from the buteo genus. They just call them hawks but they are not true hawks. True hawks belong to the genus Accipiter. And Accipiter hawks are found all over the world. Not just the few handful of places they say they are found in this video.
And to make it even more confusing for people in the US.. in the US they often call vultures buzzards which they aren’t. So they call buzzards hawks and they call vultures buzzards. It can be a tad confusing so I’m not surprised you got them mixed up.
There is so much wrong with this video. So many untruths. That’s the point of my original comment. If you’re going out your way to make a fact based video then at least get the actual facts right. Don’t do fact videos if you don’t know wtf the facts are and don’t have a clue wtf you’re talking about! which the people that made this video definitely don’t.
Greetings Mr? Happy been. Firstly let me please sincerely apologise for my first comment. Saying that at least you would be happy even though you were an idiot because all you care about is honey. I am stoked that you replied after that shocking start to communication. It is sadly a very rare day that I come across someone with such a passion and search for every tiny little part of amazing creatures like our beloved " birds of prey".
Don't take this the wrong way but I get the feeling that you are maybe in your twenties or less. I say this because you are dealing with the exact frustration I did at that time when I was in high school and read in numerous books that all these different snakes were the most venomous. I grew up without the internet so books was it and you would not believe what they used to get away with. At this point I should tell you that I am in Australia. Firstly as we have 9 of the top 10 venomous snakes ( depending on where you read it), we also lay claim to the no.1 Most Poisonous Animal in the world! I bet you don't you don't know. Your knowledge is impressive but being in the good old Us of A I know that your world knowledge wouldn't be as impressive. Secondly, being colonised by the English our countries shares their love of propaganda and lies. Which is what makes it so sad because there is no need for it to taint our love of nature, they have just gotten so used to it over the centuries it becomes their default setting. " Poisonous snakes?.. Telling kids the truth just sounds risky call me crazy" .. That was how I imagine the conversation went.
I hope you have read this far as I will break and hope for a reply, but in case you don't I have to say how much I learnt from your text. I loved the doco because I had no clue about the differences between the two and I watched it sure that they would have no facts i didn't know. The peregrine has always been a favourite as it is the fastest moving living thing ever by about 100 km. I am embarrassed to admit that I don't think I knew about the stooped wings being one of the two differences. The other blew me away, as in I definitely did not know that Animal fact. The jagged tooth ' thing' pointing out of the bottom beak part. Any way, that was literally all that I got out of the film. So when I say it was awesome due to the knowledge that was all I meant. I am 45, so I am proud to say that that is a rare find. I did say that eagles are hawks, and I think that vultures are too. I would not have said that yesterday but she said at the start that they were all birds of prey, and I think raptors, but I would be more than happy to be informed of different by you. Your knowledge of these birds is impressive but in my defence we only have a couple of eagles down under. Naturally the biggest wingspan in the world with........the....... you know, I don't have to tell you. Jokes. The wedged-tail eagle is maybe my favourite, I rescued a dead one that my mates dad had killed when he found it in his chook pen. I am a Buddhist so I ' rescued ' it to give it some honour. We also have a family of peregrines, plus 20 years of offspring living 100 stories up in Melbourne CBD. On a ledge with a camera you can log on and watch them. Heaps of cities have them. They love pigeons.
Alright, I can't wait for your reply, oh I forgot, we also have 'native ' birds of prey. Do you think that a bird can be considered native when they can fly to any country they want. So you would know of the kookaburra. They are a kingfisher. I had a pet Frogmouth owl. Can you tell me what you know about owls? They have all the characteristics of hawks... talons,ripping beak and eyesight. The frogmouth is not an owl but a kingfisher. Looks like an owl. Alright I promise this is my last fact. I bet we don't agree on the largest eagle. I actually can't remember all the conflicting facts i have read but if you are on the net, then you should have the agreed answers.

And a real riddle, who is the king of the jungle. The lions have never seen a jungle and if they did they would run into a tiger who is pushing twice the strength. So our most basic sense since we were little, of nature,is not true.' The lion is the King of the jungle '. So it is not a surprise that the majority of facts after that haven't really been checked.
Ironically, even in Africa the lion is not the king. Hyenas have right of way over there.

Sorry but I just thought of a beauty. Which bird is known as the best at catching its prey. The most successful hunter? Keeping in mind that vultures are just eagles who have lost use of their features after becoming scavengers so they can stick their heads right inside the carcass without ruining their beautiful plumage. So it could be argued that by thriving without having to hunt they are the most effective or successful as they can get old and still eat the same?

Good call mofo, it is a whole minute of it I will not remember as I was trying to calculate a heavy hawk being a couple of pounds and then without missing a beat she was straight into wingspan, which was the only hope. All I remember is a small bird had a wingspan of 15 inches which she said was 39 centimetres which is way too close to double to be correct anyway. Only negative

I only followed as I was sure I would find you had no real differences, like all the other links, but not only accurate and unknown real differences, the jagged 'tooth ' blew my mind and eagles are hawks! Purposely not mentioned as eagles get all the good habits because they have friends in high places, get it, on the flag.
That was right at the end. Hawks are eagles. Eagles i think is the indigenous name and hawk is probably European. I know for American Indian people eagles are a massive part of their culture and it is the same in Australia. Obviously the name in native tongue couldn't be the same so I don't know what i am on about. Falcons have a jagged spike sticking out of their bottom beak. And their wings a different shape to eagles and Hawks
