  • As a thank you for getting me to 10k Subscribers I present to you my analysis on the incredibly manipulative antagonist Sosuke Aizen. During this video I cover the change of Aizen’s character during various moments in the series like: Turn Back the Pendulum, Everything but the Rain and more. I analyse his interactions with characters like: Gin Ichimaru, Momo Hinamori, Toshiro Hitsugaya, Ichigo Kurosaki and most importantly comparing his character to Kisuke Urahara.

    Since Aizen believes that "a winner shouldn't speak of how the world is but how it should be" (my favorite quote from him), that actually makes him an idealist instead of a realist as most villians tend to be with Urahara being the realist. Aizen uses cold logic and reason to manipulate others and reach his goal but the obejctive itself is very idealistic, he wants to change the world and make it better in his eyes as he hates the current system.
    Aizen got to be my favourite character in all of Bleach, he is the most memorable thing about it.

      @Rodiacreed
      I think it's split, when it comes to villains that are idealists and villains that are realists.
      Aizen being an idealist falls in the camp of Lex Luthor, Megatron(specifically G1, Prime, Animated, and Beast Wars incarnations to name a few), and Darkseid to name a few.
      Realist villains are the likes of Madara, Obito, and Pain from Naruto, Freeza(arguably given his cynicism), The Joker(arguably), and Two-Face to name the few off the top of my head.
      I was going to name Thanos as a realist, but every incarnation of him is more a nihilist. Although the MCU incarnation actually leans more to idealist given his scheme.
      Though sadly with Aizen, I didn't notice his idealism until this analysis video, because I lumped him in with the one-dimensional lot who wanted to rule the world "just cuz..." Which as a writer who's studied, the tricks, tropes, and trade of writing makes me feel a little embarrassed... -_-

    1 thing about the hogyoku that i often see people neglect to mention is that Aizen does state that it has a limit to its power, and that limit is the innate potential of the individual using it, thus implying Aizen always had the potential to become a god, which always explains what the hogyoku really is, a key used to unlock the hidden potential within the user

      Here's a theory, if you want to talk about the shinigami original sin style abstract theory; how old is Yhwach? Certainly > 1000., but more likely >2000 for sure based on what we know of Yamamoto's timeline (Yama founded G13 like 2100 years ago, and the epic battle between the two was like 1000 (around the time Yama became its captain commander).
      This makes one wonder a few things;
      - Who was the 1st capt commander? Apparently G13 was created and yama put somebody else in charge initially ? Or it maybe was a 'band of murderous thieves' as Yhwach described the first gen.
      If Yhwach was the son of the soul king, then basically the translation would be that he'd be like Jesus; son of god, sent to remove sin/suffering/death from the world, but gets killed because the world isn't having any of that lol

      Soul King is not a real king, he is enslaved by the shinigami, he is like a lifeless corpse. The noble houses(most of their members) are corrupt and they are ruling through central 46 the way it suits them politically.
      Aizen wanted the fact to be revealed, he wanted the corruption to be rid of, and he wanted to create a just world. Thats why tousen sided with him.

      I used to like Aizen but then I realized that somewhere in his conception of how the world should be his former subordinate who was no threat to him at all and was loyal to him had to get stabbed in the chest in cruel, completely unnecessary ways twice. Human teenagers must be chased around just for fun because it is fun to terrorrize the weak.
      Also I realized he isn't all that, what with telling only your super suspicious subordinate the weakness of your overpowered zampakutou and almost getting killed because of it (but surviving and he totally knew he was going to survive ofc). He turned into a freakin butterfly how does anyone takes him seriously after that is amazing. And the best thing about him, being defeated by a teenager that you had numerous chances to kill but instead purposefully let him get stronger and then start having a tantrum when, what a surprise, he beats you. Oh, but he wanted to be weak, thats why he was defeated, he gathered all this power and beat all these people because he wanted to be weak. Hogyouku, you sneaky bastard, could grant wishes and kept that hidden from your creator. I guess such a wish shows Aizen is just an overpowered absolute mess of a character. At least that is the conclusion I have.

The feeling of being superior to all laws and moral obligations results in people who will do literally anything for their desires, and consider themselves completely righteous while doing it. While sometimes that might start off as noble, it usually ends in violence and tragedy, like what happened to Aizen himself).

Funnily enough, his behavior in that fight is pretty appropriate, since his smugness reaches new levels but he is easily manhandled by a child. As much as I want to slap him in that part of his story, it's a nice change to see him despair and lose his cool. I would actually have loved a spinoff with Aizen as a main character. Just some extra bits and pieces about him and his evolution into what he becomes, and how he came to be so powerful. Aizen was absolutely right . If yawch is a part of soul king , split from the soul king right before he got his limbs torn and internal organ removed and sealed him inside a crystal. If yawch was destined to kill the soul king in future , then why didn't they allow aizen to kill the soul king and replace the soul king by himself . Yawch when he entered the soul king's room , he says "i will not tolerate humiliation further" before stabbing the soul king.so when the noble families feared that the soul king might end up destroying the world , they removed his limbs , take out the internal organs and sealed him , the soul king didn't fight back or resist or say even single word refusing , he just let them do whatever they want with him. The soul king has saved the entire world yet he was sealed , immovable , trapped inside a crystal with no organs , sucking out his spirit force to keep the world stable. It's so disturbing. Imagine being trapped for eternity like that. So , if yawch was a part of soul king born right before sealing the soul king, it might be possible for soul king to have started the circle which ends only when his son yawch kills him. Might be revenge , might be to end his suffering , might be for selfish reasons aswell , not sure though. But if it was eventually going to happen , why was aizen stopped ? It's as if the soul reapers were the tyrants and antagonists. Then there is nothing wrong with yawch trying to do what he did. It just becomes battle of survival , war between different groups for their own reasons and benefits. There is nothing moral on either sides. Whoever wins , they get to exist and run the world according to their will. Aizen even though his intentions came from pride and superiority complex , his actions unintentionally would released the soul king from being tormented for thousands of years by the shinigami . If this is all true , then them stopping aizen and imprison him was pointless. It's kinda disappointing to think this.

      Kubo didn't have enough time to fully explain his story and the myth. He never fully explained those who were born with potential who are Aizen, Kenpachi, and Ichigo. Shounen jump shitted on the guy before finishing the story. Yet one piece and it's mediocre story is still continuing.

      @bsvdvj yzhhdvbf Urahara didn’t betray the soul king, because he considered the consequences and decided, that they would be too severe. Aizen had no empathy or moral conscience whatsoever, so of course he didn’t care about any possible consequences. Also everything Aizen does is fueled by his own ambitions and his desire for power, not because he sees the potential of a better world.

    You know it's funny because Aizen wished to become/replace the Soul King (a powerless God; dutifully bound to one place), and Aizen becomes exactly that, except for the underworld version. It kind of has this 'fallen angel banished to the underworld yet ruling it' underlying tone to it. It's symbolic even location wise, Soul King is reached after climbing eternal stairs, and Aizen locked in the lowest depths of Soul Society. It's truly beautiful!

    The bad realization - we never saw Aizen's Bankai.
    The good realization - Aizen's power in the TWB War arc was above his Bankai, which means he didn't need to release it. I know it's unsatisfying but he was busting out his sword just by thinking about it because the sword became a part of him, fully and spiritually.
    The Ugly realization - He was in his chair for most of that arc. Imagine what he could do if he freed himself way earlier.

    Easily one of the most iconic anime characters, Aizen truly takes the cake

  • @entropicplays162
    @entropicplays162 3 ปีที่แล้ว +60

    Aizen was such a great villain and he offered some of the most memorable quotes from any Bleach character as well. It's a shame we never got to see his backstory as to why he felt disillusioned in the state of the world as is. I love how you did some really good and proper research on this as well, and went into the actual philosophical and religious themes that underpin so much of Bleach. Honestly, in some ways I wish the anime had never been, because I feel that a lot of the reasons why people came to dislike Bleach lies in the misunderstanding of having only consumed the anime over the manga, thus missing out on all the subtextual details you lay down which really goes to show how much thought Kubo gave his main characters. How can you know that Aizen's raison d'etre without having read his volume poem? You can surely surmise some of it from his actions and dialogue, but you will miss out so much of the clarity and meaning especially with regards to how it ties into all the deeper concepts Bleach is actually dealing with.
    With that said, I do think we can glean a bit of Aizen's history if we examine In Flames' lyrics for Stand Ablaze, which Kubo has cited is Aizen's theme song:
    "The time is now! (the time is now)
    Please tell me how (please tell me how)
    Set ablaze...
    Crying, remembering...
    How it used to be
    Scarred for eternity
    Was it meant to be?
    A life in harmony
    Bleeding, regretting...
    Solitary life
    Committing suicide
    Seeking sanctuary
    From this world contrary
    Stand Ablaze! (stand ablaze)
    Screaming as the flames caress my face
    Stand Ablaze...
    "
    The lyrics seem to imply some kind of abandonment resulting in loneliness and eventually resentment towards that which was perceived to be the abandoning force. Another way to interpret the lyrics would be a loss of faith, which is apt especially given Aizen's relationship with the Soul King. I am of course merely speculating, but what I believe happened is that Aizen lost someone very close to him that he himself once looked up to, and when he realized his own powerlessness in preventing the situation, he displaced his anger at the Soul King, thinking it is the Soul King's fault for being such a passive leader that allowed tragedy and suffering to occur. Ironically, despite Aizen being shown a complete lack of empathy and that he even seems to sadistically enjoy inflicting emotional pain via his manipulative behavior, he was not a completely selfish because he still believed that he could create a universe that would make everyone else's lives better.
    I believe the most defining characteristic between Aizen and Yhwach is that Yhwach only cared for himself; he was afraid of dying and he did not care how a lack of death impacted anyone else but him. The world was good as long as he did not suffer from death, whereas Aizen accepted that suffering was central to existence, but he disagreed on how such suffering was inflicted upon others, thinking that he should be the one to allowed to decide who gets to suffer and not suffer.
    Yhwach and Aizen therefore also represent two different forms of denial towards the path to Nirvana, hence why Aizen is presented before Yhwach.

    Sosuke Aizen, sentenced to 20,000 years Muken for the crime of corrupting the youth of Seretei 😂 Shinji being the only person during all that time to suspect Aizen is a testament to just how good of an actor he must be and how cautious he is before he shows his hand. The fact that Aizen didn’t go completely nuts by pretending to be good his whole life is pretty amazing. Wish we had gotten more of him in TYBW but he did end up saving the day in the end. It seems like Aizen was going to be the antagonist again after Yhwach the way the story was going, that would’ve been cool to see him fight again in his right mind rather than the angry overconfident man he became in Deicide where he no longer even used Kyoka Suigetsu. Much like after Yhwach gained the almighty, Aizen lost his edge after he killed Gin, evolved again, and just became too confident which is very unlike Aizen. All that said, I do love Captain Aizen, evil Josh Grobin.

And that's what Gin vowed to avenge, not just literal piece of her soul, but more figuratively.
    This is why Gin's last words meant so much to me, because as Matsumoto learned to move on, Gin let his hate fester. But he viewed it as a good thing, because he wouldn't want her to be filled with hate as well.

    can't emphasize enough how much gratitude I have for you on these videos because I suck at explaining and breaking down to peeps about the bleach plot and character breakdowns when I know them well enough in my head but you just shut down so many unwanted hate on these characters especially for Kubo on all his hard work he had been placing into his franchise. thanks again for all this !

Really amazing research you did by the way, especially on the many nietzsche and Buddha references and commonalities, truly I say this with certainty, you are more informative on aizen and bleach than the manga readily shows.

    I know this is not a question about Aizen, but how come did Matsumoto and Toshiro recognize Captain Shiba when they went to Ichigo's house at the beginning of the arrancar arc. I mean he was their captain... And I don't think that Soul Society didn't know about Ichigo... I mean they know everything about the real world but they couldn't figure this much? I guess they must've tracked Ishin all this time... It's these two things I don't understand. What is your opinion? :D. By the way great content. I enjoy every second of it.

      @DBZimran  4 ปีที่แล้ว +73

      I assume they would have met Isshin earlier off screen. Choosing to respect his wishes to hide the fact that they know him, and he is a soul reaper from Ichigo. That's my own internal plot and wishes Haha.

    • @geroszekeres7136
      @geroszekeres7136 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@DBZimran One more thing... I believe this whole story of Bleach was like a story of Aizen growing up from the guy that thinks to know it all, behaving like a selfish psychopath to a guy that finally achieved a kind of wisdom, realizing that his goals were after all impossible. He was after all the monkey that tries to catch the reflection of the moon, unfortunately not knowing the intricacy and history of all the things that happened before his malicious plan took fruition. Yes, he has the traits of a psychopath person but he lacked more in depth knowledge or he had the illusion that he knew it all. The zero squad didn't even squint when he got the fusion with the Hogyoku. Ichibei alone would have destroyed him. One must be a descendant of a "God" to make a dent in the strong fabric that envelops the stability of the worlds imposed by the 5 noble families and the Soul King. I believe Ukitake and Shunsui knew he was another revolted kid who wanted to show his superiority by flexing and by thinking he will eventualy surpass everyone. He was strong, was cunning, was a skilled mastermind of deception but he lacked the wisdom that comes with age and much more experience. That wisdom eventually would have reduced his pompousness, fact that we have seen in the final manga chapters in Bleach. After all he realized he made a fool of himself, and chose to finish his sentence as a prisoner of Muken. I believe characters like Kyoraku or Urahara are much scarier due to the fact that they lack that pompous pride that Aizen displayed so far. Sorry for annoying you with my point of view, again! :)))

      @@geroszekeres7136 actually like DBZimran said , Toshiro did in fact see Isshin whe he came the first time to the human world in the arrancar arc . Kubo said in an interview that Toshiro wanted to respect Isshin's wish to move on with his life as a human so he didn't try to contact him , he also said that the animation team wanted to add this scene as a filler but he refused because he didn't want to spoil things, in fact the reason why toshiro even came with the other captains in the fullbring arc what Isshin's son aka Ichigo will choose , that's what he was referring to when he said " I'm glad he was the one to succeed Ginjou".

    ok so for one, this video deserves sooooo many views and it's an insanely amazing breakdown so good shiza. Secondly, I think the creator of this storyline is absolutely amazing, I can't believe a person is able to write a story like this, it's actually amazing. Lastly, I'm at a loss on how to describe the coolness of the fact that yes, the hokyaku was used to attain great power, which is what Aizen wanted in order to replace the Soul King, but through this, even the extreme genius planning of Aizen was truly manifested in attempting to not be lonely... that's it. The Hukyaku isn't affected by any conscious thought, only true unconscious motive, and the fact that Ichigo was hit by this so strongly in realizing that subconsciously (truly), Aizen just wanted to have a person to share his attributes and motive... it shows that you never truly know what lies behind someone's psyche. Idk I can't even put it into words exactly, i just feel like humbled by the whole ideology. Goddamn m8
