  • In the first part of the Synthesis Live concert by Evanescence, the Synthesis Orchestra, assembled in each city of the tour by conductor Susie Seiter, performs Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-Sharp Minor (known as the Moonlight Sonata) at the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona on October 17, 2017. The Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-Sharp Minor was composed by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1801 and dedicated to his pupil Countess Guiccardi. The piece was written by Beethoven when he was about 30 years old and became one of his most popular pieces in his own day. A German music critic and poet, Ludwig Rellstab likened the effect of the first movement to that of moonlight shining upon Lake Lucerne. By the late 1830s, long after Beethoven passed, Moonlight Sonata was being used in German publications and later in the 19th century, the sonata was universally known by that name.
