Another one: th-cam.com/video/ruGwJEGaAaI/w-d-xo.html DJI Mini 3 Pro Test flight ended in a drone flying confrontation with the bird lady or local Karen. This could happen to you despite you knowing the local drone laws. Have you experienced anything like this?
I was flying my mini over some marshland by the side of the road here in NY when I heard someone ask "is everything ok?" It was a police officer. I replied yes politely and asked why he asked and he said "I saw your hazard lights on your vehicle flashing and wanted to make sure you were ok". He then saw that I was flying a drone and said "those are cool and have fun" before driving off.
Hi i wish to buy a mini but am scared because of many owners reporting flyaway. Am from Ireland it's always windy & rainy here. Will the mini be able to handel winds at high altitude. Please share your thoughts. Thanks
@@jojojohn2416 It can withstand a lot of wind. Mini is a small drone, but it's pretty powerful. When you get a wind warning, decrease the altitude immediately. Also, set the return to home altitude just high enough that it won't hit anything- don't set it at 100m when the highest object it can hit is 20m high, this is because of wind- it's (sometimes MUCH) stronger at higher altitudes.
@@RB-gv5xh Thank-you so much Rados. Want to buy a drone but my budget is very limited. Mini or fimi x8 se 2020 is the only two viable option for me. But mini users are reporting flyaway often. Thanks for your advice & time. I need my drone mainly for photography, so is mini okay for photography? Sorry for too many questions 😅
Great ,he is a cool one ,nice to hear that because imagine how many cops like drones and many of them own drones but still have to carry out these stupid laws ?
Here in the UK people seem to be okay so far. I was flying once and had an old man approach me and I dreaded what he was about to say but thankfully he came to chat about how technology amazes him and how he used to fly model planes, so that was lucky.
rob there's a clip on here USA of a guy flying the length of a semi discussed bridge, it's around 2 miles long. On the way back to his car, he gets into a convo with two fishermen. To say they are amazed as he tells them fishing conditions along the length of the bridge is a understatement :) :) :) By the way they were talking, it looked like dji was on for another sale ;)
No one really bothers me when I fly but I tend to stay away from people. I did see a guy use his drown to scare people in the park by flying at them. These people give us all a bad name.

I was confronted once, when I was flying. I showed him my license and I told him just to call the Police and the nearby airport tower to check my clearance to fly. And told the person to stop talking to me due to safety risk. He just left. :-)
I've been confronted a few times and one of them was very similar to yours. I tried to explain that I was clear to fly in the location but he interrupted me and tried to talk over, so then I told him to just call the police and he left.
@@gashman4206 " Go and do one " ?? That doesn't have the same impact as saying " Piss Off " or in America the come back would be " Fuck Off " Now that really had an impact. Lol
Very coincidental! I had my first ever confrontation just yesterday! I basically live in caravan in a field and was flying my drone in and around my caravan, over ... yep, you guessed, lots more fields. An elderly gentleman came onto the field and told me, "I have a gun and I'm going to shoot your drone out of the sky". I said, "OK", returned my drone, packed it away and went back into my caravan ... then called the police. The police visited this gentleman, him stating to them that I was flying over his property. I showed the police the flight path of every flight I had taken over the last two weeks, clearly showing that not only was I not flying over his house, I was explicitly avoiding doing so when, for example, returning under low battery. The police returned to him and cautioned him. 1. Don't argue at the time. They have already made their mind up and you're unlikely to change it. 2. Report the matter to the police, every time - this is harassment and the police need a 'conduct of behaviour', essentially a history of similar behaviour, in order to successfully prosecute. 3. Fly legally and considerately. *You* have the right to exercise your hobby or conduct business legally. *They* do *not* have the right to harass you. The arbiter is the *police*. Report it.
You’re nicer than me because I would’ve given him a choice of wet or wet. “ in 15 seconds I’m throwing you in this lake. How would you like to use your remaining 10 seconds bird man?
Well done for standing your ground! As a beginner (and with UK drone laws always changing), I was not as confident before about my permissions. I was flying a Mavic Pro in the park one day and during the 'return to home' I saw in the camera a police car approaching from behind. Safe to say, my heart rate was getting high and I thought "I'm screwed!" - it wasn't even my drone. They pulled up and said, "does that have a camera on it?", I said "uhmm... yeah, it's a drone." At this point I was expecting to get into some trouble and then the officer says, "Is there any chance you can fly over that church for us? We need to check to see if some young kids are up there." - PHEWWW! 😂 That was such a close call lol.
Yea, I've had a couple incidents like that. Unfortunately, for them, I was completely legal, and am not afraid to get into a verbal/physical confrontation about it. I don't let anyone tell me what I can/cannot do, and I'm certainly not gonna explain myself or my actions.
I used to get confronted here in the USA. I always try to be polite as I too am concerned about the bad reputation drone pilots get. I found that buying and wearing a yellow safety vest with "FAA Licensed Drone Pilot" stopped this. Instead of them acting like self appointed drone police (but without any real knowledge of the subject) they see that I am there on business and leave me alone. Not every flight is related to my Part 107 license however that yellow vest has meant I have not had a single busy body hassling me ever since 👍🏻
I agree just explain your flight is lawful and that you refuse to discuss it until your flight is completed then end the conversation. His interruption could have caused an accident. Point it they would be responsible in that situation.
The one thing I'll say is that if someone is engaging you that deeply, the best thing to do is to land the drone BEFORE you engage him. Let him know that you have to land for safety before you talk to him. Because once you give him your attention, your attention isn't on the drone. Guys like him would love to have even more ammunition to use against us drone pilots, you know?
I applaud your honesty and integrity and upbeat attitude. Not many people could have maintained their composure. Getting caught off guard is the tricky bit, if you prepare mentally you have somewhere to start if that happens.
Love it! “I will end my operation when I’m finished!” I’ll tell people, “I am focused on flying safely and I will talk to you when I land”...And make them wait.
Out of all the people you had comment on this video, you only have 4 people that are just as strange as you are following you😂😂 a Karen? Really? That’s the best material you have to insult someone you don’t know?😂😂😂 you are a Karen. All 4 of you strange little wiredo’s!
I believe you handled this adequately. The "bird man" was actually distracting you from your flight, VLOS and creating a safety hazard. As such, I would have called the police and would have advised them you are being unnecessarily harassed by this guy. Thank you for standing your ground and doing an excellent job of flight planning!
I have also been approached by a senior man, who wanted to quiz me about flight restrictions when flying my M Air over water. I advised that my flight path did not infringe on the Drone laws, ie over water and not above houses or people etc. However this elderly man, with perhaps too much time on his hands, insisted on a full blown discussion about drone laws and the restrictions, whilst I was attempting to fly my drone. I strongly suggested that for the sake of safety, he should respectfully allow me the courtesy to return my drone without interruptions. After landing, I showed him the screen and went on to explain its control & safety features, the necessary steps when safely flying & landing and the aviation laws & restrictions. In the end, he thanked me for my time, apologised for interrupting my concentration when flying a drone and appreciated my question to him 'if your wouldn't interrupt a pilot when they are on their final approach when landing a plane, then why would think it OK to have a full blown conversation about drone laws when someone is attempting to land a drone'?
I think you did a fantastic job of keeping your cool. I'd start by telling him to wait until the drone lands and then we can discuss so I'm not distracted while flying - but I wouldn't land until I was good and ready. Then upon landing I'd start asking him a lot of questions like, "are you a drone pilot too?" "Where do you get your information about not flying in certain areas?" etc. to lead him into a trap. With your knowledge, business purpose, documentation and all the necessary red tape done he'd realize he had no grounds for his argument. Regardless, you did well at handling the situation!
I love this "confrontation"! Calm, civilized, no raising voices. Hands held nicely in front or behind back. Maybe annoying, but not endangering or genuinely confrontational. I have honestly never seen this in USA! Not once. I love Europe/Europeans and the respectful approach to (almost) everything!
Nicely handled. I've recently had an argument with a 'horse man' who said I am not allowed to fly in my local park (been flying there for the past 5 yrs). I responded: "where does, it say that?" He couldn't answer. I then further responded with "but thank you for checking with me as I have UK drone CAA drone operaor & drone license" - so invited him to contact the CAA quoting my license numbers and enquiring directly with them to confirm I broke the rules (or not). That response was enough to make him go away. I take drone laws/safety very seriously, but equally cannot stand ppl who pontificate and think they own the land & air, when they do not!
I've been very lucky that everyone who has seen me flying is always very excited and usually just wants to see what I can see in my phone screen and ask how much it costs / how far it can fly. I'm sure I will come across an angry person at some time but so far so good. I would just tell them to call the police if I knew I was flying legally. I cant be distracted from flying while my drone is in the air arguing with the public I need to focus on the safety of the operation.
Totally agree. If you are legal, have your papers ready. When the police show, watch the antagonist deflate rapidly. Nothing like watching someone stick their foot in there mouth. Can you say to the police officer, can I file charges for harrasment? I bet he starts walking........Or bring the drone down and pack up and walk away. It's not worth it to argue with a moron!
As much as a very volcanic personality like mine would admit to.. I find it very much more easier to explain to the individual the truth... Involve them... like "here.. have a look at what I see.." Show them it's simply taking pictures from a different perspective. Most are impressed. The others that don't see...are people only get angrier if you confront them, especially the older generation... God Bless them. We really need to include them.. show them how ultra cool this new way to take photos really is.. It's such a wonderful hobby when done right.. most of advertising... a LOT of movie footage is done with drones nowadays... It's here to stay... Awesome Vid Mate Big Cheers from Sydney Australia! Hope you guys are staying safe!
oh man, how i hate these self-approved deputy sheriffs. can be found everywhere and with all kind of topics like smoking, etc, ....... in general, these are deeply frustrated guys, having nothing better to do than making others lifes complicated for nothing. i personally tend to ignore them as far as possible, because at least it´s the most danger of all this to interrupt me and draw my attention while i´m in the air and concentrated. in fact, they have big problems with themselves without even knowing it.
Exactly 100%. Germany is so full of these people. I feel pity for these people that lead such sad frustrated lives. They are in desperate need of therapy but too ignorant to see it.
Some people have to have some sort of conflict in there life, and if they don’t have any they create it. Seems this bloke is one of them. I bet he has a massive dint in the top of his head from his wife’s thumb.
Your patience with this guy is impressive. In the UK they are called busybodies because they have nothing better to do than interfere with other people’s enjoyment. I suspect I’d have been less diplomatic and used a two word phrase pretty quickly.
I always say that if they know the law so well they should know also that it is illegal to talk to a drone pilot during flight (18 U.S. Code § 32, interfering with a pilot engaged in the authorized operation of an aircraft)
Good for you for holding your ground...Your a responsible drone operator, and you are very respectful...I would be honor to have you as a friend and neighbor.
Very well handled. Yes I've had a confrontation in my area , I was on an empty field in a public area. Following the drone code 100% this woman came across the field with her dog so I landed my drone out of courtesy and said to the woman I will keep my drone down until you have walked the dog. She replied " you cant fly here is a private area." So I said to her well if I cant be here what permits you and your dog to be here!!? She just walked off and give me such a look. But i know i was well within my right to be there as i was following the rules. So well done to you for keeping your cool.
@@Danny_Roman. Thanks....you both are absolutely correct. Instead of just saying "I don't understand what you are doing, could you explain" it evolves into I don't know so I don't like mentality. I really want to get into shooting footage as a hobby but people like the bird man take the complete fun out of it.
@@Princed2006_ I wouldn't let that happen (letting anyone take the fun out of it). Just start by nicely explaining that you know (and follow) the rules and regulations and that you'll be happy to show/tell them anything they want to know (including the App that shows it's legal to fly where you are) "AFTER I LAND". My experience(s) have been more about curiosity than hating something they don't know/understand BUT, there's always going to be a few haters, no matter what your talking about...
Hi, I had a single problem, I was filming a house for sale recording and the neighbor came out and told me not to record her house, so I said no problem and she went a way. I know, but us Canadians are just that polite. Plus, we can fly pretty much anywhere we want with a couple of minor restriction on common sense things, like airports and Parades... common sense things. There is no winning an argument with someone who thinks they are right. Congratulations on having such a big channel. You obviously make great videos, I subscribed so I can watch once in a while... Thanks for the interesting video.
I have had three unpleasant encounters with persons who confessed they knew the drone rules better than I. One was an assault but the police did nothing after I reported it. They all started the same way, with the person approaching me saying something to the effect what I am doing is illegal. My typical response has been, if they feel that way, they can either contact the police, or make a complaint on line with DOT. Escalation from that point is typically rapid. Odd thing is, there has never been anyone else around as a witness. These people seem to operate alone and apparently do not like to see anyone engaged in an unusual activity. I have always operated my drones within the rules and always have respect for others in my vicinity. I have made thousands of flights without a single incident.
Then you haven't run into many bird people - they take their hobby very seriously and can be real trouble. These are the people that complain to their local goverment and demand something be done about these crazy drone guys. Next thing you know, there is a new restriction preventing you and others from flying. Don't mean to lecture but I've run into these people before and I find smiling, gently explaining a short reason that you're there and so forth. It has worked in most cases for me.
Sorry that you had to endure that discussion with the misinformed individual. I wouldn't beat myself up after watching that video for the 2nd time. I think you handled that very well. But most of all I was hoping that you allowed this juicy exchange with translations of course after we got to hear what a Danish discussion might sound like. I really got roped into the story and almost fell leaning over closer and closer to make sure I don't miss anything. You are quite fun to watch and thanks for putting this up!
A policeman told me I couldn't fly, however was at least friendly when I explained the rules to him. He then told me he likes to fly at a local park and recommended it.... That park is a no fly zone....
I flew my mavic mini along a lake last year which was perfectly legal. Of which a policeman passed by (The lake was near their office building) He just asked how much the drone cost and was very interested in buying such a drone. 20m after he walked away an angry woman came towards me. She scolds me and says that what I am doing is illegal and she demanded that my drone be handed over to the police. after 10 minutes of trying to calm her down, she tried to throw things at my drone, luckily the same policeman I talked to passed by and this lady went to the police. I took the opportunity to land the drone while the lady was busy. The police did not even ask me anything but it seemed as if the lady's request to have me punished was denied when she started shouting at the police that they should do their job followed by her walking away from the police.
That was priceless Henric? Who would of thought you would of locked punches with that dude? Awesome video, you stood your ground. Some people have the nerve to mess with other people. They should just mind their own business. Thanks for the video. 👍👍👍
Your english is really good. You handled this encounter very well. Not sure I would've kept as calm as you did. Your video popped up in my recommened and I definitely will check your other videos out!! Thanks for sharing the beautiful views of Denmark.
Here in the U.S., no matter how nasty a person gets, I am always calm and respectful. I explain the rules and that I am following them. If they will let me, I show them my video feed so they can see that I can't be "spying" on anyone from that height. I want to improve relations between the public and drone pilots, not make them worse, so I am polite even if the other person does't deserve it. If going to a public park, I even bring along a cheap toy grade drone so I can offer to let the person try out flying a drone. I often use my Tello for that since I can set the height and distance they can fly with it.
I'm subscribing due to your humorous banter with a full translation 😂 thank you sir for making my day with facts you stated & stood your ground! Love it!
Tell them that "it is dangerous to distract someone from piloting an aircraft", then hopefully they will stop pestering you. If that doesnt work - safely land ur drone and move away from your equipment and confront the man. Stare straight into his eyes and do not stop staring into his eyes and calmly say - "I know that I can fly here and I am under no obligation to tell you anything, Im going to fly my drone again here as soon as you stop distracting me. Call the ranger, call the police or call your mommy. Im not going to stop controling my floating camera here. What are you going to do?" Then keep staring him STRAIGHT IN THE EYES. Ask him what he is going to do, and if he asks you anything, tell him that you don't have to tell him anything. Keep saying the same thing, most will back down within 5 minutes, but if they dont shut up or go away. Then turn your back away from him but hold your ground, he will try and make eye contact again, but make him move around as you simply turn your body. They get infuriated at first as you are ignoring them. Then they give up.
Cameron Owen This individual couldn’t care less about the distraction he was causing. He couldn’t care less about the risk to equipment he was creating. He was going to make his point irregardless of the disturbance he was creating. He couldn’t care less. Very selfish, self-centered, egotistical person. It seems all ended well.
You are a reasonable man and willing to admit your mistakes even when you are provoked. I have found myself in similar situations (off guard) because there are people in this world who are miserable and do not like seeing others enjoy life so they do this kind of crap. In all my experiences, NEVER do they negotiate, its all about them so I don't try to engage with them any longer which I think you referenced in the beginning. Continue to be kind and happy because we need more people like you in this world and less of these nosy boners!
For just such occasions, I carry a placard stating: "I'll be happy to talk to you, but only after I safely land my drone." Most people don't realize we really do know what we're doing as licensed drone pilots and must pay strict attention to our drone operation at all times. If they did, they would'nt bother us while were flying. Moreover, They would know we only have so much battery time and need to land the drone soon anyway. I am a "nature photographer" too and use my drone camera to take great pictures of nature that can't be taken any other way. Great video, thank you very much.
That's really smart to carry the placard. When I VJ (live video projection for bands) people come up to me to talk to me but it is very distracting and I start making mistakes if I talk to them.
Bless you Bird Man, this is your lucky day ! Let me introduce you to the latest breed of DJI, the magnificent Mavic Air 2, the future of drone/bird/nature/photo enthusiasts :)
You are a nice guy. I’ve been confronted a few times. Standard response, “I’m a licensed drone operator, parked on a public roadway, filming a private operation. Please stop interrupting my operations and go call the Sheriffs office should you have any further concerns”.
Very interesting. I'm considering upgrading from the Mavic Air. I appreciate your channel. Love the idea of asking people to click the dislike button twice, haha!
What a prat, god you have a lot of patience by the way love your videos. Hoping to get the mavic air 2 soon. Living in the UK it’s not too bad here. Keep up the good work.
Nice civil way to disagree. Possible improvement: I would have avoided the ill-will. First, by understanding with the bird-watcher, nature-lover person. Expressing I have the same concerns. That's why I'm here. And it won't take long. And why I have a right to be there. And that I appreciate him expressing his concerns and feelings. That I have them, too. And so, I use my drone with all the same concerns, how the beauty here would be ruined by the noise of multiple drones, if it were to happen more of the time than not which even half the time would be roo much (half of daylight hours). Even less than that. Even if only 1 drone. They are noisy and somewhat disruptive to the ambiance of this lovely environment. I would say how a drone can and has become a symbol for, high tech invasion of nature zones. Because, when we come to such places, ideally we put our phones away and disconnect from the digital world, reconnect with divine mother Earth. So I consider you a brother my friend. We are on the same side. You may not believe me now. However, now please consider if you will - because I am flying for now, 20 minutes more at most, today - many who might come here, will not actually come here. Why? Because if I do good work today, many who may have come to visit, may feel like they already have come here, and choose not to come. In this way I am helping the human density to be reduced here. And that is why we are on the same side. We share the same values. We want peace. And I apologise for disrupting yours. However, again, I wont be longer than 20 more minutes. I will stay a respectful distance from wildlife. After I ground this drone, I am going to enjoy the peace and tranquility. Like you. With you. Help me help us, my friend.
Of the precious 20 mins of air time, 5 was spent justifying it to know-it-all Karens and Kens, putting me in a frustrated state for the rest of flight. NO! ...peace was not an option when they approach with open hostility. They have us drone pilots running thru the ringers preparing to fly legal, I'll be damned if I waste more than a minute on their ear grating nonsense.
I’m from Sweden and just got the Mavic Air 2, I’ll be sure to avoid birdwatchers in blue jackets... 🤣 Great video and you did the right thing to stand your ground, I’m hitting the subscribe button now, take care!
I'm usually sick of wise guys like him. So i would ignored him, or annoy him untill he would get the wrong ideea, call the police, and then i would show everything is in order to them. If i'm satisfied with the stupid look on his face that's it, if not, i would officialy complain to the police for his uninformed and hostile actions (i can think of several legal reasons - harrasment, lying about whitch areas are protected - he should know, interfering with a business flight that was legal, etc.) . I would have so much fun and he would be more polite next time with strangers, or mind his own business.
Your police are far more educated than some. I find police aren't schooled in every law, 365 days of the year, & often make judgement decisions on the spot. Of course it depends on many other factors too, but I learned very young, simply being in the right, abiding by all the regulations, does not necessarily mean the situation will resolve in your favor. Similar to "Birdman", people come in all types and personalities. Im glad this didn't escalate further.
I've been lucky in that any of my interactions with spectators have been friendly and have served as an educational experience for those who were not familiar with our drone laws here in the U.S. I will add that you are much more patient than I am though. I would have dismissed him much sooner as he would have been interfering with my flight and therefore my business.
Buddy part of my family is in Sweden. I've never been there but use Facebook to contact them weekly. And you are going to be my favorite from now on. I just got my first drone. I'm 73 years old. The drone is a DJI mini 2 and I love it even though I haven't been able to fly it yet. Hello buddy from Yuma Arizona USA. You make me laugh everytime. Good for you. Sorry about the drone fake police dude. 😃😃❤❤
I saw a video the other day where someone came over and tried to tell the guy what he should be doing, he explained nicely but the other person insisted that they were right. He then stopped the person and simply said: "Thats enough now, I think you should fuck off." End of discussion.
Your videos are excellent, keep up the good work! I am a new drone pilot in the UK having recently purchased a Mavic Mini; I fully expect to encounter people like the one in this video sooner rather than later. I only hope that I can be as patient as you in dealing with these people! ;)
Not really a Karen. The argument (misunderstanding) stopped in a very civil way. In the US, there would be a lot of threats thrown around and someone will call the cops.
You are much nicer than I am, lol! Eventually, everyone encounters a bad experience like this. And we don't want to repeat it ever again. I'm having two signs made. A-frame (sandwich board) style. They will have all of the important info: Licensed Operator, contact me, website for FAQs, and "Please wait until the flight is complete before asking me any questions." I'm also keeping a section clear as a whiteboard, so I can say "Business/Commercial Flight" or "Just for fun". And anything else that will help avoid conversation.
You didn't start with the most important questions for him: 'Who are you and why do you think you are authorized to speak to me about this, at all?" Asking those could have save you 20 minutes and a potentially crashed drone.
Man you kept your cool. I would have started panicking as soon as he said "you can't fly here." Good on you sir, while you didn't roll over, I feel you stood your grown and reminded him that him being a nature guy doesn't give him authority over you.
On one occasion a Dutch guy even followed me to see where I was living and tried to enter the building by pushing the door and shouting like a wild caveman,... Good that the cameras where on,....
I have yet to experience a situation like this one. I have had a person ask me if it was legal for me to fly at my church, but she accepted the answer and went on about her business. Great video !
Mostly little disturbing but great interaction. Except 2 times, one time with a 3D Heli and another time with a drone, with the same guy, a hunter. The one with the Heli He was also beginning with: you are not allowed to fly here... where I answering with the rules to follow for RC. Than he said ok but you are not allowed to drive with your car here whre I replied I am on invited by the owner of the field so I have the right to drive here. This is true as the farmer is a friend 😃. The 2nd time, with the drone, same game, with the exception that the farmer friend was present as I was flying for him to make a cool harvest video for him. This time the discussion was short 😊
One question did the hunter have permission from that farm owner to be there ,.. they seem to overstep their boundary's a lot . once a hunter told me to get of the land because they were hunting with 3 people i looked at him and said ill give you two minutes to get of my land before i call the police . They did not expect that as i also had 3 American Staffords with me ,never seen hunters run that fast .
Well done, and thanks for sharing this. Every time one of us in the drone community shares our experiences like this, it helps others be better prepared for if/when it happens to them. Additionally kudos for going back and double checking on the restrictions for the area, I doubt the birdman did the same.
Great video. Here in Aus things are pretty relaxed but, knowing our lot, it won't be long before regulation makes the pursuit more bother than it's worth - hopefully not though. If someone comes walking by, irrespective of whether they look like "trouble", I always say "Hi. I hope my drone flying is not bothering you?" So far I have always had pleasant, positive responses but I'm ready to pack up and move on in the event they can explain reasonably why it is bothering them. Also, if it's in an area that is likely to become populated by sightseers, I always go super early to avoid them - often the best light anyway :-). Mind you, you would not believe how early some people like to walk their dogs, and we all know how the dog/drone combination goes...
Thank you for this video taking the time to do it. It is against the law for anybody to disturb a pilot while flying. If you know you’re in the right just try to get a picture of the sky and if you get confronted by the authorities let them know what you researched and why you felt legally able to fly in that location. You cover all the rules you study your flight plan you get FAA rights
Wow! I could tell right when you had enough “rubbish, rubbish, rubbish”. I have not had any issues yet with people. But you know it seems to me whenever I see other pilots have these confrontations, the person who is telling the pilot “you can’t fly here” always seems to not be educated on the rules and restricted areas, but claim they do. I feel if it was me in your shoes I would have done the same thing. Also I would have to fight the urge to show him proof that he’s wrong lol I try to be civil and calm with everyone but when you know what they are telling you is completely not true you a feel a responsibility to Educate them. I think this guy just wanted the area to himself and said whatever he had to to try to make you think you couldn’t fly there. He obviously didn’t know who he was messing with haha! Glad it didn’t escalate any further! Guess I better be more prepared than I already am when I start traveling with my drones lol thanks for the great vid!
yes, this was a great lesson for me. I will be better prepared next time, and no go into an argument. Land and the drone and call the police, and let them talk to him :-)
TECH DRONE MEDIA good plan! I still think overall you handled it well. But since you already notified the police, they would have been ready for the call and that would have been a great way to just end the issue all together!
@@TECHDRONEMEDIA Even though I have never heard of it being enforced, it's a federal offence (FAA) to distract a pilot (causing damage) so if you told that to the perpetrator he might have backed off sooner (but then again some A-holes are gonna be a-holes no matter what's said)...
I commend you on how reasonable you were with him. And I hope the interloper knows not to behave that way in countries like the USA where people don't politely accept interference in personal business. I think you did a great job!!!
That's a good idea, or if you're "too cool" to wear one and it's not Instagram friendly, then at least a lanyard or something with your pilot ID's and certificates in there looks "official".
Too bad Im seeing this months later. TYVM 4 sharing a common issue. My area is very very anti drone.I cant count the number of confrontations any more, but I do have a stock response to everyone that approaches me. First I tell them how wonderful it is that they're such watchful consciencious neighborhood watchers, and thank you. I then explain that Im on a specific job, limited to only fly on & above the property of my flight plan & contract. I never offer to show them any personal information, even though I do carry registration, license, etc with me- that is none of their business. My attitude is always to calm them down, put them at ease, let them know I am not invading their privacy in any way. Its only the take off and landing typically that causes them to hear the drone. Im sympathetic to people that are annoyed by the noise, because we all want to get along and be able to fly without creating antagonistic opposition. I do know others that have had their drones shot at, however its almost (LOL) impossible to actually hit one in flight. The worst confrontation did threaten to shoot my drone out of the sky if I didn't leave immediately. Rather than fight with someone in that state of mind, I again apologized for upsetting him, explained I was also just doing my job in a very regulated field but would gladly leave if he'd allow me to retrieve my gear. (I was tempted to ask him if he would please pay for my lost time, but bit my tongue and left). I returned at a completely different hour to the same location on another day and completed the work. Like arguing with a Donald Trump cult supporter, its just not worth the time and energy. Confrontations seem common subjects in some regions, while in other areas, drones attract only fascination and curiosity.. F.A.A. is revising guidelines for 2021, we'll have to see what they require, and what direction the industry is going in. To survive in quads, we all must learn to find common ground. Funny thing is 2 decades back "Quads" referred to ATVs that terrified equestrians. Again, understanding both sides imho, leads to best outcomes.
You was very calm with him , I would ask what his problem was , I only had one prob that was in Cornwall in the uk this place has been used for lots Of of television and film production,s she said I was filming her I did laugh and said why would I want to film you , I was just landing at the time
Great video thanks, i think you were very level headed. Well done, can't wait to get one of those drones. I am just an amateur. Greetings from Australia.
Your ancestors were vikings, so I was expecting bloodshed. Surprised by how seemingly cordial this was. Probably would have turned out differently in the USA. Your english is wonderful, by the way. Thanks for the video and footage of your beautiful country!

DJI Mini 3 Pro Test flight ended in a drone flying confrontation with the bird lady or local Karen.
@@jojojohn2416 I'd recommend saving a little more money and investing in the mavic 2 if you're worried about wind
Here in the UK people seem to be okay so far. I was flying once and had an old man approach me and I dreaded what he was about to say but thankfully he came to chat about how technology amazes him and how he used to fly model planes, so that was lucky.
Those chats are nice
rob there's a clip on here USA of a guy flying the length of a semi discussed bridge, it's around 2 miles long.
On the way back to his car, he gets into a convo with two fishermen.
To say they are amazed as he tells them fishing conditions along the length of the bridge is a understatement :) :) :)
By the way they were talking, it looked like dji was on for another sale ;)
i had a guy complaining about the noise and calling me ignorant and then 2 minutes after i had a group of walkers amazed by it!
I don't have any issues in the UK as well people more bothered about there dogs
No one really bothers me when I fly but I tend to stay away from people. I did see a guy use his drown to scare people in the park by flying at them. These people give us all a bad name.
I was confronted once, when I was flying. I showed him my license and I told him just to call the Police and the nearby airport tower to check my clearance to fly. And told the person to stop talking to me due to safety risk. He just left. :-)
I've been confronted a few times and one of them was very similar to yours. I tried to explain that I was clear to fly in the location but he interrupted me and tried to talk over, so then I told him to just call the police and he left.
You guys are too nice, I flipped people off all the times lmfaoo!!!
When I fly, I don't give a shit what they say, they don't pay for my shit, therefore they can call the cops and cry about it,
It should be an offence if you "interfere" with a Drone Pilot whilst he/she is piloting their drone.
I’ve had a similar situation.
How do you say: "Piss off" in Danish? 🤣🤣🇩🇰
Pis af :-)
nice one ken as we say in the uk go and do one lol
I think it is “piss off” or you can use the international hand signal. “You’re number 1”
Hey its Ken!
@@gashman4206 " Go and do one " ??
That doesn't have the same impact as saying " Piss Off " or in America the come back would be " Fuck Off "
Now that really had an impact. Lol
They forbid you to fly drone, BECAUSE...
THEY DONT HAVE DRONE. !!!!!!!!
that's what I mean, Man. hahahahahaa
I think you were very polite. I am not sure I’d have shown the same patience.
Report it.
Thank you for sharing
I'm just hoping that every police you call knows the law.
That's such a good story. I'm guessing the pratt went home with a big smug grin on his face and then a few minutes later..... 'knock, knock'.

🤣🤣🤣
Lol according to part 107 that wouldn't be recreation now you're in a real catch 22
@@johnharper5247 If the law gives you permission I guess it's all for a "good cause" right? 🤣
Yea, I've had a couple incidents like that. Unfortunately, for them, I was completely legal, and am not afraid to get into a verbal/physical confrontation about it. I don't let anyone tell me what I can/cannot do, and I'm certainly not gonna explain myself or my actions.
@Dark Justice - It appears your name is appropriate.
Not every flight is related to my Part 107 license however that yellow vest has meant I have not had a single busy body hassling me ever since 👍🏻
still no reason to wear a "clown vest" when it is not required
That’s a brilliant suggestion and I’m going to implement yhis
Not me I’m sick of them, viral drone vids and hyperlaps ass whippings coming soon.
@@michaelarea571 unless clown vest keeps the clowns away
The safety vest works wonderfully and helps avoid people asking general questions which are not inended to be rude but are just distracting.
I agree just explain your flight is lawful and that you refuse to discuss it until your flight is completed then end the conversation. His interruption could have caused an accident. Point it they would be responsible in that situation.
Exactly. I would just tell him to keep quiet and that I would appreciate not to be interrupted while I am flying.
A drone hobbyist vs. bird watcher hobbyist. Why can’t we all just respect each other’s love for fun? LOl.
Stick some googly eyes on it and tell him its a new breed :D
Call it QUADUCK?
Should have said It’s a “lesser spotted plonker spotter” but they are becoming more common due to environmental changes lol
👍👍👍
Well if you see a bird watcher who is already in the spot you wish to fly the right thing to do is go somewhere else
VERY good point!
How about just ignoring the busy body and continuing with your flying. You are under no obligation to engage with said busy body.
I applaud your honesty and integrity and upbeat attitude. Not many people could have maintained their composure.
Getting caught off guard is the tricky bit, if you prepare mentally you have somewhere to start if that happens.
Love it! “I will end my operation when I’m finished!”
I’ll tell people, “I am focused on flying safely and I will talk to you when I land”...And make them wait.
Best advice...fly first, discuss later.
Today I've learned that Karen is a man and he's a nature photographer.
That's what I said, a Danish Male karen. Either ignore him, or tell them to go play in traffic.
😂
Karen for female and Darren for male. 🤣
LoL
Out of all the people you had comment on this video, you only have 4 people that are just as strange as you are following you😂😂 a Karen? Really? That’s the best material you have to insult someone you don’t know?😂😂😂 you are a Karen. All 4 of you strange little wiredo’s!
I believe you handled this adequately. The "bird man" was actually distracting you from your flight, VLOS and creating a safety hazard. As such, I would have called the police and would have advised them you are being unnecessarily harassed by this guy. Thank you for standing your ground and doing an excellent job of flight planning!
I was very hard not to lose my temper when I knew I was allowed to fly there
My thought was he was a safety hazard - also blocking for you to land the drone.
He’s not a photographer. He’s a bird watcher.
You handled yourself well. Kudos

@@jaimeavakarianvillamonte744 Ironic response.
Yea. Especially now in America. It truly sucks here right now.
That's a nice calm discussion.
I cant be distracted from flying while my drone is in the air arguing with the public I need to focus on the safety of the operation.
yes, I should have done the same.
This is my experience in UK. only positive encounters so far with people more excited to see the drone.
As much as a very volcanic personality like mine would admit to..
I find it very much more easier to explain to the individual the truth... Involve them... like "here.. have a look at what I see.."
Show them it's simply taking pictures from a different perspective.

Very well handled. Yes I've had a confrontation in my area , I was on an empty field in a public area.

A policeman told me I couldn't fly, however was at least friendly when I explained the rules to him. He then told me he likes to fly at a local park and recommended it....
That park is a no fly zone....
Ha, that is too funny
Did you inform him about the park or let it slide?

It's crazy this brings the worst in people. Tonight I had a private plane circle over the same area for almost 20min making a lot more noise.
I think the bird photographer was jealous that he doesn't have a MA2 to fly with the birds. Keep up the good work!
The word is vigilante.
Just a grumpy old busy body minding someone else’s business when it doesn’t affect him at all.
Yes he did not think about that for sure
....Then throw him in the lake
Cameron Owen This individual couldn’t care less about the distraction he was causing. He couldn’t care less about the risk to equipment he was creating. He was going to make his point irregardless of the disturbance he was creating. He couldn’t care less. Very selfish, self-centered, egotistical person. It seems all ended well.
Well to complicated! Just ignore them totally!
I think you need medication. Just have a chat with the person. Smile. Work it out. Either fly there or don’t.
I'm sorry this happened to you, but I thought you handled it well, considering he surprised you.

You are a nice guy. I’ve been confronted a few times. Standard response, “I’m a licensed drone operator, parked on a public roadway, filming a private operation. Please stop interrupting my operations and go call the Sheriffs office should you have any further concerns”.
I have had one person come up to me and try to tell me I can’t fly, I came unhinged and berated this man until he left
"What would you have done?"
Told him to go and kick rocks.

“Mr pain in the arse” Nicely handled, always someone who knows better...
I must say you are a gentleman and you handled the situation really well. Nice video thank you. And keep ndest regards from Ireland 🇮🇪
That would teach him a lesson
Your police are far more educated than some. I find police aren't schooled in every law, 365 days of the year, & often make judgement decisions on the spot. Of course it depends on many other factors too, but I learned very young, simply being in the right, abiding by all the regulations, does not necessarily mean the situation will resolve in your favor. Similar to "Birdman", people come in all types and personalities. Im glad this didn't escalate further.
Proper response: "You are not in authority, here. Mind your own business. Contact law enforcement regarding this matter and leave me alone. Got it?"
I've been lucky in that any of my interactions with spectators have been friendly and have served as an educational experience for those who were not familiar with our drone laws here in the U.S. I will add that you are much more patient than I am though. I would have dismissed him much sooner as he would have been interfering with my flight and therefore my business.
Good job on being educated on the situation, and standing up for yourself.
Sorry you had to go through that. Can ruin a drone pilots day, especially when you did everything correct on your end.
yes, no doubt about that :-) But at least I could make a video out of it
Buddy part of my family is in Sweden. 😃😃❤❤
Glad you like my content, and I’m pretty sure you will find your new hobby very additive :-)
I saw a video the other day where someone came over and tried to tell the guy what he should be doing, he explained nicely but the other person insisted that they were right. He then stopped the person and simply said: "Thats enough now, I think you should fuck off." End of discussion.
I wonder how that would have worked
@@TECHDRONEMEDIA I sure would love to know XD
Your videos are excellent, keep up the good work! I am a new drone pilot in the UK having recently purchased a Mavic Mini; I fully expect to encounter people like the one in this video sooner rather than later. I only hope that I can be as patient as you in dealing with these people! ;)
At least the Danish Karen will speak in a calm voice. American Karen are so loud that I will pack up the drone and run away 😂😂
Not really a Karen. The argument (misunderstanding) stopped in a very civil way. In the US, there would be a lot of threats thrown around and someone will call the cops.
Everyone is quiet in comparison with Americans! 😂
You are much nicer than I am, lol!
Eventually, everyone encounters a bad experience like this. And we don't want to repeat it ever again.
I'm having two signs made. A-frame (sandwich board) style. They will have all of the important info:
Licensed Operator, contact me, website for FAQs, and "Please wait until the flight is complete before asking me any questions."
I'm also keeping a section clear as a whiteboard, so I can say "Business/Commercial Flight" or "Just for fun". And anything else that will help avoid conversation.
You were too polite 😁
Thumbs down to your antagonists 71 family member who gave you a thumbs down. Good job on your part. Knowledge is power and glad you educated us all...
You didn't start with the most important questions for him: 'Who are you and why do you think you are authorized to speak to me about this, at all?" Asking those could have save you 20 minutes and a potentially crashed drone.
stalking is a criminal act
Man you kept your cool. I would have started panicking as soon as he said "you can't fly here." Good on you sir, while you didn't roll over, I feel you stood your grown and reminded him that him being a nature guy doesn't give him authority over you.
All I've had is curious people who said something after I landed.
All iv had is people interested in the drone asking me. How much it is and that they want to get one 😂
Thank you for sharing
*gets distracted, accidentally switched to sport mode, also accidentally flies drone into face*
"This new DJI is actually an eye-opener! Allow me to demonstrate..."
I applaud your patience, I think you handled it very well. keep up the great content!
Thanks, will do!
Mind you, you would not believe how early some people like to walk their dogs, and we all know how the dog/drone combination goes...
what a stupid thing to say, "Hi. I hope my drone flying is not bothering you?"
I think this guy just wanted the area to himself
and said whatever he had to to try to make you think you couldn’t fly there.
TECH DRONE MEDIA by the way it’s a great lesson for us too! Never know when this can happen or how to react!
"The bird man" hahaha 😂.
Well you handled the situation very well.
You're making a video for DJI, about a drone they haven't even released yet! This guy had no idea who he was talking to! 🤣
I commend you on how reasonable you were with him. And I hope the interloper knows not to behave that way in countries like the USA where people don't politely accept interference in personal business. I think you did a great job!!!
I put a small sign next to me...that simply reads ⚠️ ."drone filming in progress "....this usually shuts down curiosity...😊
Love that!
Brilliant! Im going to do this too.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Henrik. Cheers from Wisconsin.
I've personally found that wearing a yellow-vest with written text: "Drone pilot" helps a lot with these insane people.
That's a good idea, or if you're "too cool" to wear one and it's not Instagram friendly, then at least a lanyard or something with your pilot ID's and certificates in there looks "official".
add in a hard hat with "drone pilot" on it might help too!
Hey, I think you handled this really well. Kept your cool and were very polite and clear!
Well done, I have subscribed.
Wow and I thought USA laws were complicated and annoying all that just to fly over a lake 😮 I better leave my drone at home if I travel there
It’s very regulated
You was very calm with him , I would ask what his problem was , I only had one prob that was in Cornwall in the uk this place has been used for lots Of of television and film production,s she said I was filming her I did laugh and said why would I want to film you , I was just landing at the time
Hehe super reply :-)
Great video thanks, i think you were very level headed. Well done, can't wait to get one of those drones. I am just an amateur. Greetings from Australia.
Your ancestors were vikings, so I was expecting bloodshed.
Surprised by how seemingly cordial this was. Probably would have turned out differently in the USA.
Your english is wonderful, by the way. Thanks for the video and footage of your beautiful country!
