Yes that flippin Griddle! To be honest that’s one of the reasons we have stopped using ours, that and the fact that we have to carry around a separate calor gas bottle. When we first got the Cadac we didn’t have a fixed kitchen in the van and to be honest in a lot of ways I wish we still had it that way as there was bags of room. One thing that I do like about your setup is the external gas point, I am going to look at getting one of those fitted as it will be a game changer for space for us. Im tempted by the half and half too. I do remember the very first time we visited Skye, it was a beautiful sunny and warm spring day. We parked up at the side of a loch and cooked a simple one pot stew with the cadac and sat outside enjoying the sunset. The cadac came into it’s own that evening.
We are keeping fingers crossed that the silicone soak tray for the griddle, combined with some chemicals should solve the griddle issue. As we said, we love the external BBQ point as it means we can get grilling so quickly and easily. As it runs off our refillable LPG tank it is cheap as chips to use too!👍
I make crumble in the wee egg pans! Either prep the topping and the fruit at home from fresh...or pick up a tin of fruit and a bag of ready made topping from the supermarket! Finished off with a lashing of custard...yum!!!!
The silicon tray is a game changer for cleaning the griddle plate, soak in hot water and washing up liquid a gentle scrub, job done! My husband swears by it. The 4 tapas pans are perfect for breakfast i.e. beans/mushrooms in one, eggs in another and very easy to clean. Of course all more stuff to store in the van and admittedly we have a bigger van, Warwick XL. No point taking our Webber Go Anywhere to Europe as can’t use charcoal in a lot of places so the Cadac is a good alternative and a versatile bit of kit. 🔥
Thanks Elizabeth for these first hand recommendations- we always love personal views of stuff. I think the silicone bowl and scrubber is calling, particularly when we have a new griddle as we want to really try to look after this one. Space is of course an issue in a T6, but we love our cooking so we are happy to jiggle stuff around. Thanks for the comment.👍
Another helpful review from my favourite channel. I think the 'wind deflector' is also known as the 'fat catcher' because you put water in the bottom to catch the fat and make it easier to clean. I have the version that allows you to swap between high and low pressure gas which means I can cook at the van and also take it to the beach with a lightweight cannister. Slightly more expensive but worth it for the flexibility. I don't have the pizza stone but now I have seen your video I want to try it!
Fab tip with the water, we will give it a go next time! The pizza stone is great - the pizzas are a little pale on top but great as a change when we are on the road. Also good info about the hi/low pressure - we didn't know that 😊
Thanks for sharing this guys just purchased one today and was unsure which one to buy glad I got the right one thanks again for the video very informative
We absolutely love our Cadac and wouldn’t be without it. You have explained how the system works perfectly. Hope your Shetland trip is going well. Keep safe. Irvine & Karen.
Brilliant real world review, I’m sold. Threw my money at Amazon and a definitely looks a positive upgrade to my Campinggaz party grille which I’m sure I’ll kept in the van until I’m confident in the Cadac 😉 thanks for sharing
So we hear! We are going to order one as it looks really multifunctional and so many people have recommended it. How can we have lived without one for so long...we love paella! Thanks for the tip off. 👍
@@earlyretirementwanderlust if you love paella and you like pasta then try fideua, it’s basically paella made with small macaroni pasta. Game changer for us and easy on the cadac. Thanks for the videos it’s nice to see people doing them naturally instead of wanna be TH-cam stars.
Great review. Travelled with mine for years throughout the African bush with my rooftop tent set up. Tough and versatile stove system. Just to add … the Low Prwssure system you use can be used with disposable lightweight containers just by connecting with and EN417 hose and regulator (less than £20). That way you can have the best fo both worlds using Both LP and HP gas sources. Important if you want talent to the beach etc. just thought I’d mention … love your channel. It’s inspired me in my retirement for sure. Keep it up and hope to see you around the Dales sometime (I’m local too!!).
Thanks for the tip about making it more portable - and thanks for watching the channel 😊 We are loving living in the Dales and pinch ourselves every time we go back after a trip that it is now our home - it still feels like it is a holiday home - which is also a nice feeling!
Neither did we really! We have used it as it is for the last 6 years. Cadac have very kindly sent us a Paella pan after seeing the video so we will see how we get on with it - it looks fantastic and will double up as a great big frying pan for stir fry's.
I've owned mine for over a year, and I hate the bbq Grill grate, it is a pain in the but to clean. I bought a lodge cast iron griddle pan and used a grinder to cut an arch recess in the cast ion handle so it sits flat on the stove. I use that most of all because the cast iron is easy to clean.
Like this idea- not sure I have the skills to carry it out successfully. We are looking forward to trying out our soaking tray and specialist brush on our new griddle- perhaps we need to treat it with a bit more TLC than we did the last one😂 Thanks for the tip👍
I'm looking at the HP as I believe you can also purchase the regulator to use on your larger patio gas at home and the smaller c500 cartridge when camping?
Great review! Reviews are so much better when not sponsored and where the presenters are reviewing because they love a product.....That said, I hope the manufacturers do send you a new griddle 😂 I agree, I avoid cooking in van especially smelly/smokey stuff and besides can't beat outdoor cooking. 🧑🍳
A new griddle and one of those nifty looking paella pans would be great! especially after so many people have said how good they are. Had to cook inside last night - not because of the weather... it was a beautiful calm evening which bought out the Scottish midges 🤣
What a great honest review, thank you. We've just bought one and had our first BBQ with it this evening - big thumbs up from us and now looking forward to doing more cooking outside when we're travelling 😊
A trial run from home! Next trip is at the end of September to Spain and Portugal. I’m really looking forward to seeing how you’re getting on in Shetland. I’d love to go there (never been) so I’ll be all over your next videos 😂
We have a set of 3 Tefal Ingenieo pans that share one clip-on handle so they stack easily in the van and a small tefal frying pan which we use both on the Cadac and on the van stove top. Thanks for watching 😊
Thanks for the review really helpful. Can I ask, can you use the high pressure version (canister gas) with a low pressure hose? I would like to be able to use a canister or gas bottle dependant on location.
Hi guys. Cannot agree more Of all the things I have bought to enhance my campervan experience the Cadac was more than worth the money. I even got rid of my home bbq as I just get the Cadac out of the van when needed. Anyone who is reading this don't even worry about the "cons" mentioned here. No bbq likes windy conditions so it is as good as anything else. Re griddle, give it a light spray of oil and prove with heat before using. Then use the small brush scrubber that Gadac make for cleaning. Simples!! Stay cool 😎 Much Love ❣ Cx
Thanks - we will have a go at it when we get home but it is pretty trashed after all these years! It has been a great BBQ to have on our travels and we use it all the time in the summer
Hi, you mention different models depending on pressure? Whats that all about and how do I know the difference? I just bought a second hand one and assumed it would just plug in!
Hi Yvonne, we have included pictures and a brief description of the two systems in the video. The system we have is designed to connect via a gas hose to a refillable LPG tank (LP). The other one has a connector to a camping gas canister (HP). Cadac sell an adaptor hose that I found on their website here: www.cadacuk.com/product/adaptor-set-hp-to-lp-propane-pol/ 👍
Hi, great content guys. Please can I ask what coupling you use to connect your gas pipe to your van please? I just got a van with LPG and can’t find the male connector size that fits. Thank you
Hi Richard- we got the coupling with our original gas outlet when we picked up the van all those years ago. The coupling came with the tap kit- so I am assuming that you can get spares for them? We did have the tap replaced after 4 years of under van corrosion- but the garage didn’t offer up a new coupling…luckily the old one fit which suggests they are a universal fitting??? Hope this helps? R
It has been a really handy bit of kit on our travels and has been well used. The flip flops are Haviannas which I like as they have a strap at the back.
🤣 I think it is definitely time we treated ourselves to one - and I will ban Richard from using on BBQ sauce on it 😊 We have used the hot plate and half and half griddle most of this summer!
@@janewillis140 we use XL ridgemonkey, was thinking of getting the cadac safari but not 100% sure do like the idea just not 100% as yet , had our ridgemonkey for years

Hi - I have just had a quick look online - even though the hose is with the picture it is sold separately - So I assume you can choose the length - I have just looked on the cadac site if you need more info.
Have had one for 10+ years. All the accessories wore out really quickly and the non-stick only lasted 6 months. Was replaced under warranty for the grill and flat plate - they only lasted 4 months - gave up on them. Used Paella for everything else and that didn't last much longer. Found it useless in anything more than a gentle breeze. Bought a steel pan and seasoned it and have used that since then. Wouldn't buy again as overpriced for a gas burner.
Sorry to hear about that as your experience - obviously we are just coming at it from our experience with the system that we do love and use all the time.
