This would have been the start of the 1973-74 season and Gloria Swanson, having been born in 1899, would have been about 74 here. She looked absolutely fabulous! I do remember this as a child of about 9. That tango dance she did with those young guys was absolutely amazing!
Now THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is what I call real entertainment. Gloria Swanson was such a remarkably good sport and Carol Burnett is a bonafide national treasure. I suddenly feel like a cranky old lady-it’s either that or I finally turned into my mother-but without even the slightest bit of profanity, nudity, violence, or virtue-signalling celebrity pandering we all just enjoyed a glorious display of utterly charming and delightful, even magical, sheer unalloyed talent!
When Carol sings the song in the Chaplin sketch I think she is the most beautiful I've ever seen her. Not much make up, her hair a little disheveled, but she just glows! And Gloria was brilliant as Charlie!
Terrific show! How very precious was the “Old Man” song by Harvey & Carol. I love the sweetness of the Old Folks skits. And what a great job they did in perfectly staging Gloria Swanson’s song & dance number!👍🏼 Also very surprised at seeing Miss Swanson doing comedy - Charlie Chaplin too. Wow! She’s spry for an older person!
@revup Gloria was a 'health nut' since the Twenties, so her stamina and flexibility were outstanding for someone of ANY age, let alone someone in their 70s.
When I was a kid, Monday nights on CBS brought great excitement in the form of “The Lucy Show” and “The Carol Burnett Show.” I miss quality television.
I just adore Carol... was so pleased when she came on the television in Australia.. all those wonderful years ago.. still get so much pleasure from the shows
Bless Gloria Swanson. A legendary actress of two of the best ages in Hollywood. Fun fact: one of the last things she did in life was manage the Seniors for Reagan-Bush PAC!
I was fortunate enough to have seen Miss Swanson perform live in national tour of "Butterflies Are Free" in the mid-1960s. She's not much of a singer, and the guys do most of the dancing in "New-Fangled Tango," but she still commands the action. Sexy as hell! The "silent film" sequence with Miss S as Chaplin is an absolute delight.
Just loved this show, always! And, this episode was great!! When a star, was a Star!! What talent from All performers, but absolutely Loved Miss Gloria Swanson!!! Such a lovely person, and a true lady. "Our Carol" also, of course!!
Gloria Swanson is so much more than her Norma Desmond role. Stylish, intelligent, self deprecating, well spoke and a great story teller. Also... Harvey had a beautiful singing voice!
I’m hoping Carol Burnet watches her self in this Fabulous ❤ Hilarious about her self ❤❤❤ They both are Adorable being As aged couple His such greatest actor 🎭 ❤❤❤
How can I find the one with Nora Desmond descending the stairs in her fur coat. She has her back to the audience when she drops the coat. She turns dramatically to the audience and her boobs (tennis balls in pouches like wind socks) flail around. It was the funniest reveal ever. It was so shocking that it was roaringly hysterical!
Aw, thanks, but it was before this one. It was the first time her wind-sock, tennis ball boobs were unveiled. The delivery was fantastic. She came down the stairs in a full length fur coat and turned her back to the audience. She dropped her fur coat to the ground. Korman choked back laughter. Carol put the back of her hand to her forehead and swung around to face the audience and the tennis ball filled wind sock boobs flung around. @@Christina-np6hr
17:05 By this time in Gloria's career, she was never seen on TV without a thick coat of Vaseline. I believe Carol's in house makeup artist Al Schultz wouldn't touch this mess, so Gloria did it herself here. Al married Vicki Lawrence, they stayed together for 5 decades, and he passed away 3 months ago.
Gloria Swanson looked so old back then. Now that I'm older, she doesn't look very old. She looks great.
What an absolute treasure Ms. Swanson was! It made my day to realize she also had such a good wicked sense of humor,

Thank you so much for that info because she didn't look like 74 more like 50 here
Gloria Swanson is utterly amazing, and Carol shows that she has a great singing voice.
I just love this show. It stands the test of time, is just as funny now as it was then.

Omg, I never knew Gloria Swanson was on The Carol Burnett Show! This is incredible!!! 😍😍😍
When Carol sings the song in the Chaplin sketch I think she is the most beautiful I've ever seen her. Not much make up, her hair a little disheveled, but she just glows! And Gloria was brilliant as Charlie!
Truly, a legendary performer, Miss Gloria Swanson!!
Gloria Swanson as Charlie Chaplin .....magical sequence
Wow! What a fantastic episode. I feel like I've gone through a time warp with Chaplin, Swanson, and Burnett, and now 2023.
Carol was stunning. Beautiful woman. Entertaining.

Wow, that clip with Gloria Swanson as Chaplin is pure gold.

Wow! The way Gloria glides out with Lyle is elegant and exciting 🤩
She must have been 73 or 74.

That was one of her best shows This was a year before we got our second color T.V. and finally saw her show in color.
It's a honor to see Gloria Swanson...RIP
I'm glad Gloria Swanson's wish was granted to appear on the Carol Burnett Show ... and she was quite a wonderful guest . 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Such great memories. My Mom and Dad watched every week as us kids lay on the floor to watch on the floor model Zenith.
Who doesn't miss an entertaining show like this?? Just delightful. Love seeing Swanson.

Not in the best voice in her 70s, but as a young woman, she had a fabulous voice.
Gloria Swanson , Icon ❤️
Love Gloria and Carol!!!!

A new episode! You know, a 'new'old episode... Hooray!!!

One of my absolute favorite skits from the Carol Burnett Show.
The Chaplin skit is genius from conception to execution.
I’m hoping Carol
Burnet watches her self in this
Fabulous ❤ Hilarious about her self ❤❤❤
They both are

As aged couple
His such greatest actor 🎭 ❤❤❤
The Chaplin Skit ❤👍

Fabulous ❤ Hilarious about her self ❤❤❤
Did he really sing this song? Wonderful voicexx
If the Carol Burnett Show ever stops being funny, then there is no more humor.
It looked like Carol was wearing a kitchen floor. She really did it justice.
The great Norma Desmond! Just kidding. Gloria Swanson.
😂❤😂
It's funny, in a way, that Ms. Swanson didn't play a visitor to the mansion in a "Nora Desmond" sketch.
Desssssssssmond.
MAAAAXXX
The fact once she started calling "Harvey" and then slipped into Norma Desmond, calling him Max!
That lovesick elevator operator.... he was in Young Frankenstein.

Gloria couldn’t dance well, couldn’t act much, and was no beauty, but she somehow still had star quality
I’m hoping Carol
Burnet watches her self in this
