Lancia Delta ECV Group S Rally Car in action at Vernasca Silver Flag 2014!

  • The 2014 Vernasca Silver Flag historic hillclimb was dedicated to Lancia Automobili and between all the historic brand models there was also the famous restored Lancia Delta ECV (Experimental Composite Veichle) prototype.
    This car was equipped with an innovative engine named "TRIFLUX", built on a modified Delta S4 Chassis, and was conceived as the evolution of the S4 to be used in the 1987 World Rally Championship. But in 1986 the FIA decided to abolish the Group B category and therefore the car were left untested (probably the car would have run in a new rally category called "Group S", restricted to rally prototypes, but after the tragic events of the 1986 World Rally Championship it was decided to abandon the idea of prototypes and Group B).
    Giuseppe Volta, a Rally car preparation expert, purchased most of the parts of this rallying icon several years ago. At the end of 2009, he decided to recreate the ECV1 but with the ambitious objective of building a running vehicle. With the help of ex-colleagues from the Abarth/Lancia rally-team in Torino, he restored the vehicle to its former glory and presented it as a drivable vehicle at the 2010 San Marino' Rally Legend, with Miki Biasion at the wheel.

    there are only two of those cars today in existence, that's why they drove it slow not to crash it . 037 Lancias are still in abundance.

      Last S4 in 1986 were 650+ hp, the ESV with Triflux engine was supposed to go much higher, Lombardi said 800 hp+ on asphalt, it would have outrun F1 in curvy low speed tracks

    What really need to happen is to have that Triflux engine dismantled and sent to a foundry for pattern making, knock off a dozen blocks and heads, then we can witness this monster in full attack mode, as oppose to the pootling around it does at present preserving the engine as it is currently the only working one in existence.

    killed UK road rallying at the same time. Miss both. Some amazing machines were able to move to rallycross and added huge bhp there for a while. This is a stunning motor but there is better footage of it being thrashed

      Esatto, tra l'altro la domenica mi sembrava avesse qualche problema di motore (senti le sgasate come sono "sporche" come sound e quando parte a 1:46)

      Dude. The Lancia Delta ECV is technically a prototype and there is a limited number of them worldwide. I'm pretty sure that Lancia's superiors at Fiat would _not_ be happy if someone were to ruin the engine of a rally car that is priceless due to never seeing an active competitive run and thus being an unfinished prototype.

      Styx Theta The ECV built of totally different materials from the 'normal' S4, and was way, way lighter. There's almost nothing in common between the two cars apart from a family likeness in appearance.

    3: I thought the ECV ran the same set up as the s4? It doesn't sound like it at all. I even read somewhere that the ECV was actually going to be the evolution of the S4 for group B not S

      The S4 engine is supercharged and turbocharged, instead the ECV has a particular twin turbo engine.
      Yes yes the ECV should have been the evolution of the S4 for the group B but since in 1986 there was talk of a possible creation of this mysterious Group S
      this prototype has become the emblem both of the Group B evolution' summit but also the starting point of a group S car

      La testata montata sul motore è l'unica esistente al mondo e non possono permettersi di romperla. Baciati i gomiti che l'hanno ricostruita a loro spese solo perché tu potessi vederla andare.

    girava parecchio male, non l'ho mai sentita cosi, io l'ho vista girare nel 2012 a una cronoscalata in zona, come apripista, li andava forte, e come suono era davvero inquietante, queste cose succedono spesso sulle auto storiche, c'è anche al inizio del video che ho girato a quella salita

      So its not strange that he didnt want to go fully out, the same when they showed the group S Toyota 222D. Maybe if its a long straight and very wide you can but it kind of was the case but still if i had a driving license and was alloud to drive it, i would not push it either.

      The reason is that they have only that cylinder head (a very particular one) and they can't afford to break it.. If you want more informations, search about Triflux engine.

      Penso che il buon Beppe "qualcosa" ne sappia di come cambiar marcia su auto come queste. E' più probabile pensare che la macchina, come si può facilmente notare, quel giorno avesse qualche problema di alimentazione/carburazione :)
