  • This video shows a pulse induction mono-coil being excited by proximity coupling with the coil from an operating Barracuda PI metal detector in order to attempt to discover the coil's Self Resonant Frequency and in turn to calculate the correct value of the new mono-coil's Damping Resistor.

    Amazing video !!! please tell me does the resistance matter to the search coil functions ? if so can you explain why ?

      Hello and thanks for the kind words. I think that when building a coil you should be more concerned with the inductance and the self resonant frequency of the coil. I believe that in general a coil in the region of 300uH will be faster than one with a higher inductance. A faster coil will allow you to have a smaller sample delay which is better for gold. Hi
    First of all i want to thank you for your videos,
    I want to make a coil that i can search up to about 3 meters using polones
    How should i make this?
    I cant calculate the diameter of coil and number of turns and ohm and inductance
    Can you help me?

  • @22koga

    When you are using that transistor tester to check Capacitance of the coil does it have a capacitor hooked up to it also the reason i ask is im building a coil i did it with more turns so i could take some off until i got to the exact capacitance as in the post but somehow i ended up with less capacitance then he did i got 28.8MH he has 35MH with less turns ?

    • @SurfDetector
      @SurfDetector  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The transistor tester is testing for Inductance. The coil is connected directly to the tester with no other components. I am unsure what or who you are referencing with the remainder of your question.

      @22koga 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m building a 8” concentric coil from a forum off online I used the same specs except a one size bigger gauge wire and I added ten extra turns which should make it higher canpctence but it’s not it’s saying it’s lower than even the calc it’s saying it’s like 43 turns to short

    • @22koga
      @22koga 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also the reason I asked is you have wires going into the tester not the coil magnet wire

    • @SurfDetector
      @SurfDetector  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am guessing that you mean Inductance as opposed to capacitance? Sounds like you have not input the correct variables into your coil calculator. Are you using this one?

      You need to use a coil calculator so that you match the inductance to your detector. On the Geotech Forum in the Coils section there is a calculator.
