I've been doing sewing crafts for almost 60 years and am thrilled to learn some new things! I love making these little pillows, so I will definitely be using some of these techniques. I particularly like the idea of the seam down the back as well as the interfacing! Thanks so much!
I can’t agree more. It’s like watching a much loved movie over and over-I see and learn something new every time. It’s like how did I ever miss that the last time I watched.
Great tutorial!! I loved the super clear detailed directions on each step - especially that yarn cone. Wow! Can't wait to give this a try. Thanks so much for your time and effort in making this. Wishing you the happiest of holidays!!
Thank you so much for the video! As a new stitcher it can be overwhelming trying to figure out some of the steps that most are already aware of I also enjoyed your tutorial on stitching with linen as it explains how to count for a beginner. Merry Christmas 🎁
I'm so glad it was helpful! I think the designer at Michelle Patterns is a genius for coming up with the basting stitch to help with sewing a seam up later!
Misty, thank you for this tutorial! I have learned several new tips so that is great. I have issues with dog ears on my pillows and now I am excited to follow your tutorial for that perfect little pillow! Your pillows turned out perfect and so cute! 🤗💖🎅
Thank you, great video. I had been unsuccessful in finding the tutorial on the flattening of the stuffed pillows- this puts everything I need together in one go!
Hi Misty, great detailed tutorial. You did your teachers proud. I was just deciding whether to make a pillow or flat finish a cross stitch piece for my sister. I think I will follow your video and try the pillow. The corners are usually my hardest part but between you and Helen D. I think I can do it now.
The basting stitches on the "filling" seam is such a great idea. Would using clips help reduce slipping when sewing the stitched piece to the backing fabric? Absolutely a great video and I'm going to attempt my first pillow this weekend.
I think you'd still have some slippage with clips, but you could give it a try and see what you think! It's always worth testing different supplies to see what happens. :)
This is great Misty!!! I remember you saying you were going to do this and so happy to see it! Very great demos!!! Are there written directions? I would love to teach this technique to my EGA chapters as they are always looking for help on finishing. Have to get your Rudy chart! I collect reindeeers, so fun.
I'm so glad you found it helpful! I don't have written instructions--it would be quite long to write I'm afraid. Feel free to share the technique and the video with EGA chapters who are looking for tips. :)
So glad you liked it! Well, all I can say is I've finished 50+ pillows this way and I've never had a problem with the floss bleeding. I think if you had hot water dripping through the back of the pillow onto the front, that could be a possibility, but it's something I think you'd notice before it became an issue.
I love it! It's a great sewing machine! It's especially good for bag sewing where you might be working through multiple thick layers of fabric in seams. The wider throat space makes it good for free motion quilting as well. :)
I usually only put interfacing, not infacing and white fabric. Do you think it matters to add the white fabric or not? The white fabric is just to make the colors pop right? Does it also maybe add a little more smoothness to the texture of the finish?
I'm glad you found the video helpful! I stitch with Classic Colorworks all the time and I've never had a problem with the steam causing color runs. I think if your iron is leaking lots of hot water drops into your pillow, you might have a problem then. I always keep an eye on my iron and lift it repeatedly as I'm working. If you do the same, I think you should be able to catch it if any leakage issue like that were to arise.

I don’t care how many tutorials I watch, I always learn something from each.

Great tips! Thank you so much.
I'm so glad you found them helpful!
Thank you. Great tips. The basting stitch between regular stitches instead of starting and stopping, blew my mind. 😂 why have I not thought of that?

Split backing is a game changer.
I am curious about using so much steam with fibers that I'm not sure are color fast. Any comments on that?
So glad you liked it!

@MistyPursel Excellent advice. Thank you so much!
Great educational video, Misty! Thank you! How do you like your Juki?

The white fabric is just to make the colors pop. It depends on the project as to whether I think I need to add it or not. :)
Thanks misty! I’m wondering if you stitched with a floss that might bleed (classic colorworks), do you still use steam?
