Thank You for taking the time to create Your Videos!! I'm brand new to the laser and am slowly learning the How To's I "printed" my very first job today (just got the laser yesterday and finally found out how to do GCode (.nc file format) Been playing around with Inkscape for awhile now but definitely need more information!! Thanks again for Your Time!!!
This is by far the best tutorial on TH-cam for using inkscape with a laser engraver. Almost all of them are just silent videos with annoying generic music added on top and no explanation.
You talked about inksccape and vectors, handles and paths etc but you didn't actually do any laser cutting. One can assume the people who click on this video already know how to use Inkscape, but have come here because they want to know how to use Inkscape to laser cut the image on the screen. Like all of these vector image programs, Inkscape is very complicated and very finickity, hence the reason for the need to know how to send the image on the screen to the laser cutter
one of the few tutorial to incorporate inkscape with laser engrave/cutting 😁, I am using Inkscape with LaserGrbl on LM2 pro 10A, I am tiring to create/engrave a wasteboard grid onn MDF, what should be the stroke width (minimum) for the lines to be engraved. Also what would be efficient (ZIP-ZIP-ZIP) for the laser engraver: create individual horizontal/vertical lines and group them together, OR use path effect on a line CREATE GRID, and get away with over lapping burns when the horizontal crosses the vertical
I've been using Inkscape for a little while so I'm familiar with some of what you illustrated. With this video you just pushed me up several levels beyond what I knew before. Thank you
When l have taken a brick wall image and generated a 'trace bitmap' it does a great job however the outline when exported to DXF is the outline of the pen rather than a single line per brick. Any way of having a single line per brick?
Hello sir I know this video is years old but I was hoping you could still answer my question I have inkscape and I'm having an issue with the machine cutting and engraving in the wrong direction do you know how to fix this?
I have a huge problem I can't seem to figure out - hoping for some guidance! I have an image that I'm engraving onto a piece of slate and there are lines of dots that aren't included in the image appearing on the engraving. Is there something I could try to remove these unwanted dots/artifacts? Thanks in advance!
Brushing up on my laser cutting/inkscape skills and this was a great tutorial! I already knew everything you talked about, but you definitely added more depth and understanding. Appreciate the awesome vid! :))
How do I set up the setting screen on the right side? My Inkscape pops up the setting window I am working with. I want the window to be steady in the right side. I have View-Wide screen.
If your laser doesn't automatically detect inner objects and cut them first (most do) then you can make your inner cuts a different outline color and then prioritize your cuts by the color of them.
Hi first of all a really helpfull tutorial thanks for that. I got a question about 17:39 where you inking the smiley in red. I tryied to do so but it always colours the hole thing red an not just the lines? Is there an trick i have overlooked?
Hi I have a question please , when I wright a name on inkscape then I move it to EZ cad to engrave it I can't hatch it could you please help me to solve this problem
Can anyone help, I am looking to burn/engrave a picture onto the inside base of a bowl, can i set up the size of my engraving area on Inkscape to allow for that?
I have the following issue while using the laser in my Ender 3-Pro from Creality: The height can be customized, and the printer responds to Z offset changes. (software, screen, or Gcode) The machine, I heard it switch on/off, although it does not engrave at all from laser speed 15 to 3,000 mm/min that I tried. I just see a mild sign of work when I put my eye close, but nothing noticeable. The laser won't light up by itself. I have to go to the screen of the printer and adjust the Fan Speed 100% for every print. Even though, the gcode file has M106 S255 in several sections..... and M107 at the end. CAN YOU HELP ME TO MAKE THE LASER WORK....? it had not been an easy process, I am almost frustrated. Thanks.
How does one know what colors to use ???!! Nobody explains it! is there a list or manual ? Is there a standard? Can I map laser powersettings to colors ? This is something really nobody explains... Please please please elaborate on that topic! How to configure that in a template of somesort so one can develop a workflow...
Use whatever colors you want. It doesn't matter. Because, yes, you can assign whatever settings you want to most colors. That said, most people use desaturated colors, closer to white, for cuts because they're easy to filter out by color, especially if you have elements that will be rastered as well. But if you're not doing anything like that it doesn't matter. Use whatever color you want.
No matter what I do my vector/svfg files will only engrave on the laser cutter at or local makerspace and not cut out... No one can help me in inkscape and the general consensus is to use a diff program? I feel like, especially for super simple svg files, it should be super easy to dictate what's being cut out or engraved? I dunno.. It's weird. It'll actually engrave the spots on it to be engraved but barley outline engraves the lines actually ment to be cut =/
What an awesome tutorial. I think you could teach rocket science to a tortoise given the chance. If you're not a highly paid world renowned lecturer or teacher of all the things and stuff then you certainly should be. Thanks very much
A little bit of additional information. www.3dpprofessor.com/2018/10/30/inkscape-for-laser-cutter-beginners-tutorial/
Thanks..let me go through

thank you man, I wachted many tutorials but this one was definitely the best!

thank you, very good tutorial I hope you have more on this subject, as I'm just getting my feet wet on laser cutting thanks mike

This was perfect education for the laser engraver project I am working on. Thank you!

Good general Inkscape info but I was hoping for a tutorial that showed how to use Inkscape to generate a file for a laser engraver.
When l have taken a brick wall image and generated a 'trace bitmap' it does a great job however the outline when exported to DXF is the outline of the pen rather than a single line per brick. Any way of having a single line per brick?
Thank you for the great video! Super easy to follow along and understand!
Approaching the end of 2020, and this video is GOLD! Thank you!
Hello sir I know this video is years old but I was hoping you could still answer my question I have inkscape and I'm having an issue with the machine cutting and engraving in the wrong direction do you know how to fix this?
Best tutorial yet! Thank you
Thanks ! I sometimes use Inkscape, mainly to prepare paths as a base for CNC cutting or simple 3D models, and learned a lot from this/ Thanks !

Which version of inkscape are you using there, I've installed the latest and it's different to yours, I'm on Windows 8
What software did you use for screen capture. Also, what did you use to show the mouse functions in the bottom left of the screen?

Nice video! I got a question. I have the problem that my eleksmaker software eleks CAM cannot lpen the g ode file from inkscape what can i do?
Exactly what I needed thanks!
best tutorial ive seen yet on this topic, I can tell you are definitely a teacher. 🙏
molto bravo , esiste la versione italiana di Inkscape?
please do you know how I can set up my svg file vector in inkscape to cut inside parts first before the boundaries(outside line border )

Hold shift while clicking a color.
Good luck!
@@3dpprofessor Thanks for the quick response. Helped a lot :)
Hi I have a question please , when I wright a name on inkscape then I move it to EZ cad to engrave it I can't hatch it could you please help me to solve this problem
No idea. Sound to me like a problem with EZCad, and I've never used it. Sorry.
Can anyone help, I am looking to burn/engrave a picture onto the inside base of a bowl, can i set up the size of my engraving area on Inkscape to allow for that?
What does raster mean? How do I export as DXF or SVG?
1:44 and just hit save in inkscape. SVG is it's native format.
Thank you. I was confused because I was only given the export PNG option but it did show up in the file as SVG.
excellent.. .. thanks for sharing

Afraid I don't have much experience with the laser upgrade on an Ender 3, but good luck.
Nice vid!
Please explain how to convert files from svg to dxf using inkscap
File->Save As->Save as Type->Desktop Cutting Plotter (AutoCAD DXF R14) (*.dxf)

Not sure this was such a good 'beginner' tutorial...
So, how do I do a zip zip zip zip cut with a single line?
In what format should I export the vector file so that the laser cutter recognizes it?
SVG, inkscape's native format.
Awesome!
Really, really good teacher! Thank you!
Thank you for the video! It was a great intro into using Inkscape and just for laser cutting in general!

Isnt inkscape free lol what price ?

Fantastic tutorial!
Thank you! This was really helpful!

You're the man!
Where did you get the smiley faces?
you call this a beginner guide. how do the hell do you setup the inkscape to eny laser printer.
Shapeth
Strange that this way to long video was a high result in my laser engraving search. 20 minutes later and haven't learned anything :-)
