Great piece of kit. I have their other one without the plate and pin for goosenecks with the 2000 lb scale. Use it to balance my 28’ enclosed bumper pull trailer.

A hose option to remote the gauge. Then you would not have to crawl under a trailer that is not positively coupled. Good review. Have a great day!
I bought the one for TT a month ago or so and I love how you can easily see how loading your trailer affects tongue weight. Well worth the small investment.

Very good review. I would highly recommend this product for folks shopping for fifth wheels, as this will allow you to measure the pin weight prior to the purchase to ensure your truck has the payload capacity. Dealers could also benefit from this product by advertising the actual pin weights for every RV on their lot.
Sherline makes some very nice precision products. I happen to have a 3 axis CNC mill and a lathe from Sherline. I bought a 5K tounge scale when I had my other trailer, thinking I could replace the gauge at any time to a lower 2K one, the 2K was out of stock. Now that I have a 5th wheel though I found it is perfect for weighing the pin even though it isn't the 5th wheel/gooseneck version. The cup still works on the pin and all I need to to put a bunch of 2x6 boards in the bed near the hitch and weigh it there. Works like a charm. Would be nice to be able to get the plate and pin without having to buy a whole new one.
As a former Marine.. you know how tempting it would be for me to pull that little blue button? Ah cool! so the "Fort Knox lock" is so ppl cannot steal the trailor... nice. What is Great about this video is showing me the logic of showing how weight is so important
I wasn’t expecting that much weight from a empty gooseneck trailer..... it’s time for RAM and Ford to raise the GVWR OF THE 3/4 ton diesels...

If you build yourself a portable stand to mount this weight scale on you should be able to determine the pin weight without having to use your truck to test the rigs pin weight.
Love the Titan XD. Most under rated truck in the market. Over 1000lb in the bed and all it did was level the truck. Try that with a 1/2 ton or even a 3/4 ton from the big 3.
I have a question. I have always wondered this but never had a way to test it. On a tandem axle trailer (can be a tag along, goose neck or fifth wheel), does the tongue/pin weight change any from the trailer being level. I’ve been told that it does to an extent. Basically, if you tow a tandem axle trailer with the front high on the tow vehicle, you could actually be applying more tongue/pin weight to the tow vehicle since you are holding it above the ideal level of the trailer. Same thing when it’s too low. It may actually decrease. The theory is due to what axle is carrying more weight and the center of gravity of the trailer. The scale that you have would be a great way to test this out.

Nice product, but it seems to me that its not at the same height of a standard fifth wheel hitch.
Would not the different angle of the king pin resting on the device, being lower , thus adding more leverage on the device, give a different reading than the actual weight riding on the top of the skid plate or clamp of a fifth wheel hitch?? . Or would the difference be negligible??
Also I would be hesitant to lower the pinbox that low into the truck for fear of the trailer hitting the bed rails.
Although I guess one could add enough blocks to the device as to raise the king pin to the height of the hitch they use.
It's amazing how many of these trucks and ones similar I've seen pulling substantial 5th wheels going down the road. I try and gently educate as many people as I can but battling the truck and RV dealers is exhausting. I wish there was a way to hold dealerships and even salespeople responsible for misinformation

On one of our camping trips this year, there were 2 Toyota Tundra’s pulling 35’+ Montana 5th wheels. Crazy people.
jet052673 I “educate” someone on EVERY trip I take. Utterly ridiculous people’s lack of understanding between towing capacity and how payload plays an equal important part.
Almost every time I try they either get mad or roll out the tired argument 'Oh, I have a friend of a friend at X truck company who says there's no real difference between a 1/2 ton and a 1-ton except springs."

I can't tell you how many 1/2 tons I've seen towing 12k GVW 5th wheels who are absolutely certain they're fine, until I bring up pin weight and cargo capacity.
It's a pretty cool tool, but unless your say a hot-shotter or maybe transporter, likely not wroth $265. That said, I'd rent it for $25 to confirm my setup.

That would be a great throw away truck for Texas Pride to deliver brand new empty trailers to customers with. I am at a good sized RV dealer and none of the techs has a hitch scale of any kind. LOL
If you haven't already took a look at the haul gage. It's pretty cool.
Cool little scale. Seems like it might be a little challenging to weigh a traditional king pin, pin box. I'm curious if there is enough bed rail to trailer clearance to lower the trailer down onto it or if you would just need to set the scale on cribbing to heighten it. Maybe I missed something.
It would have been nice if Sherline would have provided a collar for the locator pin so the scale would rest properly on the gooseneck receiver. Also, they really should provide a spacer for the piston for storage, suggesting a block of wood, well, that just isn't a sign of quality. I would love to have the scale but its really pricey just to take a couple of measurements each year. Likely more suited to a dealer than an individual.
Thanks for the video. I have a Sherline scale and accidentally picked it up a couple times by the piston before I know otherwise. It was cold when this happened. Do you think it needs to be bled?

Its payload is really in line or less than many half ton trucks. Heck its only 300lbs more than a Ridgeline. Not so much of a heavy duty.

Have you seen or heard anything about the curt better weigh mobile towing scale? Seems to quite a bit in a little package.
But what would the weight be with a standard gooseneck adapter. Vs the torsion adapter
Looks like this would easily go over mos domestic 3/4 ton trucks as well. So my guess with this experiment, most trucks once hauling these types of trailers with say bobcat are way over weight.
Now I really want to pull that!
Ram's are the same in the goose neck hookup puck.
My first truck was rated for the trailer I had. The pin weight was to high damaging the rear end of the truck. This pin weight scale would have saved me lots of frustration, money and time.
Is that a glycerine filled gauge? The "do not pull" plug is used to fill.
It is not a filed gauge, but you are correct that the plug is used if the gauge were to be filled with glycerin.

The XD will easily handle 2400 lb pin weight with ease. Ask me how I know! 😉 These trucks are ridiculously under rated.
The previous generation maybe, but the 2020 has significantly softer suspension.
A friend of mine at work has an XD 2019, 3145 payload, I was shocked! 200 more than my f250

I wonder the payload on an SV Titan XD and the payload of a SL trim. The really great thing is all trim levels have the full safety package
Payloads are 1500-2200 depending on cab and engine.
@@onecrzyrcn Bernie, thanks but I am only talking about the 2020 which only one engine is offered. I am surprised that the fully loaded XD payload is only 1,700lbs. If there a XD built with say a payload of 2,400lbs?
@@tuffr2 Yes. A Single cab, 8 ft bed stripped truck... Just like the big 3 like to brag about their capacity... and those are for stripped trucks too.
I wonder how well this would work with a Goosebox. Probably pretty similar to this I’d guess. Do they have an adapter to have the scale fit into the square tube of the B&W turnover?

Our scales have a +/- of 2% in the middle range and 3% on the outer ranges.

Something doesn’t sound right regarding the payload. My 2018 xd gasser is closer to 2500lb payload similarly equipped. The payload you mentioned sounds like a stand Titan that isn’t an XD.
Your truck may have an upper GVWR since the diesel was heavier during that year.
You know someone is going to pull the tab on one of these at some point.
It happened a lot more before we put the note in our instructions!
I would really like to get something like this product. I tried the BetterWeigh from eTrailer and was less than happy with it. I recently weighed my rig and was shocked and alarmed with the outcome. Perhaps you can enlighten me.

It has two 7,000 lb axels
Weighed the truck with full fuel tank: 8760 lbs
Hitched the fifth wheel and got it weighed
Truck 12,000 lbs
Fifth wheel 10,960 lbs.
I was shocked! This means that I am over my GVWR when my wife, dog and I are in the truck. How did I get to 3540 lbs pin weight (12,000 - 8760), which means an additional 1167 lbs of pin weight over the empty hitch weight (3540 - 2373). If the pin weight is 20% of the total fifth wheel weight, then the estimated total weight of the fifth wheel would be 17,700 lbs (17,700 * 20%= 3540 lbs). This doesn’t make any sense to me. I do not have much in the fifth wheel. Black and grey tanks were empty and only 20 gallons of fresh water.
Something seems wrong? Perhaps the scale was wrong? This was a commercial, non CAT scale, as we don’t have one within two hours. Can you shed any light or clarify this quandrom, other than I should have purchased the dually? I will get it weighed again when I take the fifth wheel out again. I really do not want to be over my GVWR. Thanks for your great, highly educational TH-cam channel.

The one I purchased was terrible ... gave different readings with same weight. I ended up returning it. Maybe the one I received was just bad.

That titan has lower payload and towing capacity than a silverado 1500 max payload package.
Titan doesn’t make 3/4 ton trucks which can compete with the big three. Low payload and low towing capacity. I’ll keep my Ford!

How can that be accurate when the truck is taking the load? It’s like putting a foam pad under your scale at home. I wouldn’t trust this.
When the truck stops settling/lowering, it is the same as a solid block.

You do know a cat scale will do the same thing a whole lot cheaper nobody is going to buy that just to see what pin weight is for one or two trailers but you get everything handed to you by sponsors of stuff that they cannot sell to the normal person
