In terms of functionality open shelves are for those whose favourite pass time is cleaning.
Ideas for Small Kitchens:
1. Light colors
2. Mobile Kitchen Island
3. Built-in handles
4. Upper cabinets/ Open Shelving
5. Use vertical space
6. Layer lighting (ambient, task, accent)
7. Functional and decorative pieces
8. Organize cabinets
9. Cabinet to the ceiling
10. Reflective surfaces
Love all the ideas except open shelves. They get dusty. Storage is more important. I would prefer uppers to the ceiling for the most storage. I also like the idea of toe kick drawers. You can even use them as foot stools to reach those tall upper shelves.
YES! I see it exactly the same way.
Dusty and greasy and you can't display anything on them that isn't decorative. You lose a ton of storage that is usually desperately needed in smaller kitchens.

Plus open shelvings is “out” when it comes to home design trends this 2023.
yes, I have realized open shelvings in any room make it look less organized, "loud". I prefer hiding the unavoidable crap behind doors. :D
Nice kitchens. But non of the shown is small. My kitchen is 2,10x1,60 m. THAT'S small! 🙈 Ideas for those kind of kitchen would be great!

I had a small kitchen, but now I have a larger one. To me, a kitchen is first of all a workspace. One of my favorite things in both kitchens is a plastic tool holder intended for the woodshop which holds most of the tools we reach for all the time: measuring cups and spoons, coffee measure, whisks, spatulas, etc. We rarely use the first six inches of counter in front of the wall, and the tool holder sits there. So does the knife rack.
Ok this was GREAT!! I’m building a 750 square-foot house. Yes small! And this is exactly the video that I needed for ideas on what to do in the small space. What I especially loved about this video was when you accentuated a particular idea you left the video on open or pause for a moment that we can actually look at it. And no other video that I’ve ever seen actually lets the Observer really see what they’re talking about. For this I will subscribe to your channel!

GREAT IDEAS- thank you! I have a small condo kitchen that I am currently redoing after a refrigerator water leak. I have only the Insurance money to use so I have limits to what I can do (they pay for like items only.). There is no window, it has white triangular floor tiles and has one short wall that is painted in the light honey colored paint of my adjacent dining room.) I choose white, simple Shaker cabinets, stainless steel pulls, shiny white subway (type) tiles. I choose all new stainless-steel appliances and chose a black Blanko sink (large and deep!) and tomorrow I am going to choose light countertops with a bit of gray/black veining and maybe a bit of the honey color in it. I want a light and bright kitchen. that is timeless. I want my kitchen tiles to reflect light. I have can lights over the bar/countertops and under the cabinets. I really love having one area of cabinets in a different color, but I suspect this is a short-lived "trend" that will be gone at some point. I am age 71 and I have to "think" about resale value. I do NOT like clutter or a lot of things sitting on my counters, so I keep things clean lined. NO open shelving for me....they get greasy-no thank you!

I am really happy that the kitchens you showed really were small. I like white cabinets but wow are they hard to keep clean. I like open shelves but also like some closed cabinets. The kitchens you showed were very pretty.

I love the open shelf trend for small kitchens. My kitchen is super tiny, traditional cabinets would have made it look so packed and I probably would have only fit one cabinet if i went traditional. While the open shelf does get dusty, it’s easy to wipe down, I do it once a week as I clean my house weekly. The mobile island is also a great idea, with more storage. We use ours as a pantry and our dinner table

Everything is nice. But seems that people use kitchen for the beauty not for cooking. Opened shelfs are nice but when you cook on the stove, sometimes oil sprinkles, dust will come from "the window" and later to clean all shelfs and open areas are very hard.

My kitchen is 10x6. No room for an island. My two tips for small kitchens is to get rid of duplicate pieces and pick multifunctional ones, and get a double decker dish drying rack (9” counter space rather than typical 18”).

I am so on the fence I like the bright white. but also love bright colors that’s the problem. Sometimes I just want to go wild and let loose and bring in some bright yellow or sage green. I haven’t got the nerve yet. ☹️
I have a yellow kitchen and never regretted it. It is just a bit more difficult to accessorise.

However, one idea that works is to collaborate with your young person and scroll through magazines etc for ideas. See what your youngster likes and what you are happy with, and create your own individual style. ❤️ 🌿 😊

I will buy myself a new kitchen soon. The room is relatively small (2,8m x 1,7m) with very dark floor tiles.
Which colour combinations would you suggest?
I would like to avoid white.
Great ideas. I am renovating an apartment in Italy and while the kitchen is not small, I want to bring in more light and the views of the sea. I will incorporate the mirror idea to reflect the mountain and sea views. I will also choose tiles for the kitchen backsplash to reflect the light. The single wall with cabinets will be to the ceiling to maximize storage. I have a beautiful Italian antique table I will place on wheels to use as an island and dining table. In lieu of a larger kitchen island that moves, go for a smaller bar cart. You can pull them up to the dining room table to serve food without them looking odd there like a kitchen island would.

The biggest and common mistakes that people make in a kitchen are SMALL sinks !!!! That is unless you just need it for rinsing glasses😂. The most important is your counter top. Big mistake is using marble or granite as they absorb oil,vinegar, lemon etc and leave irreversible stains.I have Dexton it is the very best of countertops, it does not absorb all of the above and even hot pans won't ruin it. Though I still prefer to use a table mat. Though not advisable,one can even occasionally cut on top of it. I'm a 70 year old Italian,passionate about cooking and have had much experience of kitchen worktops. Please do use draws as you can see everything at a glance without having to go down on your knee's. Open shelving are also a delight(if you have sufficient storage below counter tops) as you can alternate its functionality, from decorative to necessary daily objects,eg flour,rice,pasta in beautiful transparent glass jars. Add a few plants,recipe books,the odd lovely wooden cutting board....and voilá,you have a interesting wall. I hope that I have been of help to someone.ps. I loath high cupboards as I'm not a giant😂and don't intend risking an accident on stools or having to go in another area for stepladders.

Thanks for all the useful tips you shared with us! How tall should the ceiling be, in order to bring the upper cabinets up to the ceiling? My kitchen is 275 cm height, which means that if I want to bring my cabinets up to the ceiling, they will have to be 125 cm in total. Isn't that too much for a small kitchen?

Hey, I was wondering if you could do a video for college-age or young adults who might be living in a very small apartment, perhaps with roommates, that can't have major renovations. That would be really appealing to people like me who don't have much room to maneuver!
Same situation. Best thing to do is to keep everything as clean as possible and declutter as often as possible. Stick with multipurpose items. Loft beds give you more floor space for a desk or drawers.

The big gfloaying exhaust hood is a space waster on a small kitchen. Better get microwave off the counter and keep spice/condiment cabinet over stove.

I do not like open shelves because they look cluttered and items get dusty.
I opt for only one open shelf above the sink.
Better to have an accent cabinet with glass doors. Dust free.

Zahira...fabulous ideas, do you provide paid designs...I'm looking to reno my kitchen and need some ideas....its a cookie cutter kitchen, colonial style, looking to do a banquette...taking out slider and cutting that in half and just have a window back drop....to much to explain, but would love to get a professional opinion...thx & appreciate any feedback!
I was thinking of going with anthrocite base cabinets from IKEA only because my small space is literally a grey stone cottage. Just to make it all uniform so it doesn't distract from the eye. But my attached living room, because it's a small loft situation, uses a lot of light neutral colors and organic elements to open the space up. Am I doing it backwards by introducing too much contrast?
How far away from the front of the fridge should the counter be, I have only 37 inches between my fridge and the counter on the other side and not other places in the kitchen to put the fridge. Are there any less deep fridgerators available that are wider and taller? Ours is a counter deep one btw.

Not only do you need to wipe down the counter after every use. Now you can add cleaning the backsplash mirror too! and if you have open shelving you can add that in too....no thank you!

Open shelves attract dust!
My kitchen is tiny..The wals are a lovely beige color, but the cabinets are white. I hate it. imo, white makes everything look old & dated, not to mention the work because they show everything..I much prefer darker cabinets, but that's just my opinion. 😊
