    Hi Guys Growing duckweed seems like a no brainer, so I looked around my neighborhood. No one grows it or puts a value on it. Some interesting research I found it is 43% crude protein, and out put from one hectare, is around 20 tones dry weight per year Bearing in mind that the protean content of animal protean feed is 18-24%.,priced at 5-7k kip a kg, it sounds like a much better feed type for animals. Have you ever heard of Aquaponics? As you buy fish for your restaurant, maybe you could set up such a system on some of Nee Nee's land. That way you could rightly claim your fish is as fresh as is possible.

    • @NowinLao
      @NowinLao  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Again, great info there Chris. I was led to believe it was used just as animal feed, but with a quick search after reading your comment, it has good nutritional and medicinal benefits to humans also. Maybe this is why the price is a little higher than I expected 🤔
      40+% protein is huge 👌

    The tricky thing about growing duckweed is it's super easy to grow, fast growing and sometimes it just won't grow. I haven't heard of anyone figuring out why. Saw a video of an expat farmer in the Philippines who built several long ponds for duckweed. Some grew, most struggled. Two guys in Thailand struggled to grow it. One thought it got too much sun. It seems to grow best when it's unwanted, and worse when trying to grow it.

    Yeah that duckweed grows massive in the right conditions…it’s an asexual plant so all others come from a single parent….she was probably collecting the fronds with buds on them that hang from a parent frond….not really a root but it’s under water….the fronds can be used to populate other ponds…

      My guess scaling up the duckweed production on a large flat surface they could probably use some aeration. Nothing fancy but say about 10 household fish tank aeration pumps with tubing and stones would go a long way if even to hinder the competing growth of algae and “scum”....

    The new drone video is poppin'! I never heard of duckweed until this video and so I did some searching on the weed. Amazing stuff! I am reading about people drinking this herb tea and using it in foods. Now I am curious as to why I have never heard of this herb until now with all of its protein and minerals. I am wondering though, is the smell a problem being so close to the house? Looks like your neighbor's fishery ( I'm guessing that's what that is at 19:30) is doing well.

    • @NowinLao
      @NowinLao  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My thoughts exactly Fred. If this stuff is so versatile, why do we not see more of it. As to the smell.. what smell, there is none. Another interesting thing that others were concerned about, mosquitoes. It's also known as mosquito fern, as it prevents mosquitoes from accessing the water to lay eggs 👌
